I recently upgraded to a Apple 10.4.11. I have this annoying problem I can't figure out. With my previous Mac, I could put anything on my desktop anywhere I wanted. For some reason, on this desktop, there only seem to be a limited number of "slots." By slots, I mean each item can only be placed on a specific place and there is a specific amount of space between and around each item. Once these are used up, any additional items pile on top of each other. It looks like I have five rows of six items each (you name it, pictures, Word documents, Excel documents, etc.) I hate this. I want to be able to put or move anything anywhere I want. How do I fix this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I place a file in trash I get a warning that the file will be deleted if I continue. I just want to place files there and delete them later. I tried to fix the problem by using terminal and typing:
$ rm -rf ~/.Trash/mkdir ~/.Trash/
But when I try to use mkdir I get a permission denied.

Okay, I was working with iMovie and did something cool...but I don't know how I did it or how to repeat what I did.
I managed to make one "clip" which consists of 6 or 7 photos (imported from iPhoto)...and on top of (inside of?) that clip is the "far far away" title (the Star Wars one). I tried to do the same thing again, and couldn't figure out how I did it in the first place! Oops. Any clues would be great (I tried highlighting several pics and dragging them down to the timeline together...didn't work. I also tried a few other things, but no luck).
Is there anyway to place a refresh toolbar icon on the Safari 4 toolbar? I realize I can type ⌘-r, but I've got in the habit of using the mouse to refresh my browser window.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I hit Reply in Mail and start typing, my message obviously appears on the first line. The annoyance is that the message I'm replying to is on the second line when I want there to be at least a line's space between my message and theirs. So I end up having to hit return and then cursor up every time just to put that space in myself. Is there a way of having this there automatically?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that iWeb doesn't publish my site the way it is shown in iWeb. I made some modifications to my site in iWeb (put some picture frames on my site, lines) but when I publish to a folder and then to a different domain, my site won't look nothing at all with the one I have created in iWeb. I checked my site with Firefox and Safari and the lines or the picture frames disappeared or don't appear as they should.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI know by the title you may be saying... here comes yet another post on iPhoto. But I have a suspicion it is much more than that. thus the post in the OSX category. Here is the short version...
I use to have a MacBook Pro (17" if that matters) with OSX 10.5 on it. Back in August '08 I bought a iMac (24") because I had to give the MacBook Back. When I set up the iMac I did the install that allows you to transfer your settings and files to your new computer before I erased everything on the MacBook. Some how I lost a bunch of Pictures I took and had on the MacBook. I just can't find them... i didn't have iPhoto on the MacBook but do on the iMac.
I thought I had lost the photos until one day I pointed the screen saver to my photo folder. Now I can see my photos in the screen saver slide show... but can not see them in iPhoto or in the Photo Folder.I have hope that they are somewhere on my computer but where and how can I get them into iPhoto?
After running the latest release of updates today (ilife, raw camera, etc.) Aperture 2.2.1 (whatever the latest release) no longer sees all of my photos - about half of my projects are missing from the Aperture program itself, however they are still in the library as I can get to them in finder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an extensive photo collection, around 50k images, mostly 3-5MB JPGs and around 1k 10MB+ RAWs. I have once tried to start managing them in iPhoto and attempted to import it on an old MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM. It was about 2 yrs ago on an old version of iLife. The performance was very bad - everything was extremely slow and I abandoned an idea at that time. Now I have MacPro with fast HDD and 10GB RAM and was wondering if I should try this again using iPhoto 09? Doe anyone manage that many images using iPhoto here? How is the experience?
View 19 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, when I upload pictures onto my Mac from my camera, it makes duplicates of the photo, sometimes even 2 duplicates. This is very annoying as I have to go through my library deleting the duplicates. Is this a known problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to iPhoto 8 and noticed the contents of the library where not stored in the 'pictures' folder on the 'home' folder as it was on previous versions. However the iPhoto file (in the 'pictures' folder that is) increases in size when photos are added.
Are all your photos embedded in that file?
If not how do you back up your iPhoto library? AND how do you access photos individually outside of the iPhoto app?
I didn't find the folder hierarchy very intuitive in previous versions but at least it was all there in folders in the primary 'pictures' folder.
I need to invert (mirror) a bunch of scanned photos. I can easily do this using Preview but when I drag the edited photo back into iPhoto it changes back to the original photo. How can I keep the edited pic from changing back.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to iLife 09 and ran into a problem with some jpg pictures that all came from the same source.
When I double-click on certain photos (all landscape view) to enlarge them, they expand out, and then go black. If I click on the "Name" button it recognizes faces behind the black but I can't see anything.
I've rebuilt the library and repaired permissions. It doesn't help to reimport the pictures or to rotate them around.
I recently changed my hard drive in my macbook, I managed to download my photos on to the macbook but they don't show up in iphoto
I can see them if I go to pictures > iphoto library > originals, but not if I just open up iphoto
I have tried File > import to library, but all I get is a message saying "the following file cannot be imported.(The file is in the iphoto library folder)"

I created another iPhoto library on my external hard drive. With photos from 2007-2008 Deleted them from the main iPhoto. Then in 2008 I carbon copied my computer to the external hard drive. I ended up with 3 iPhoto libraries. I wanted to only have one on the external hard drive and today after not enough research I drug the iphoto icon on top of the one in the user folder on to the iphoto icon. The photos are not showing up in my iphoto library when I open the iphoto on the external HD. I do a rt click and open the iphoto package and the photos are all there with all information How do I get them to show up when I open the external hard drive or am I fried?
I am quite an amateur when it comes to resizing digital photos, so I need some help please.I just hit my 500 post count and I am now able to add an avatar. I wanted to use a photo from my iPhoto library, but the photo seems to big for what is allowed by this site for an avatar.
I tried Exporting the photo and using various settings in iPhoto to make the photo smaller, but I keep getting "file upload failed", so I am guessing that it is not within the specified size for avatars. What is the easiest way to change the size of photos so that I can use them, not just on this website, but also the many other sites that require certain sizes for avatar uploading?
I take lots of pictures of mountains and often from more than one directions. I'm good at recognizing peaks, but it has become to large to remember them all. Do you guys know of a way to display a simple
caption for each picture so that I know what I'm looking at? I thought this was a simple feature that ought to be include in the first version of iPhoto, but obviously I am wrong. Anyhow, i'm using version 6.0.6 on OSX 10.4 i.e. Tiger.
Is there a simple way for me to copy my photos in my Iphoto so that I can put them on my wife's macbook? I want to keep them on mine also but she is wanting them too. I could just download to her computer from the camera they were taken on but they would not be edited and I want her to have the edited version.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's remarkably annoying...if I want to upload photos onto my flickr account, I have to move all my iPhoto pics into a picture folder first, and then upload it from there.

I'm new on these forums so I don't really know how to navigate my way around. This is my first mac ever (macbook pro 13) and I've had it for several months.
Upgraded to iPhoto '11, and latest software. iPhoto will not send emails with photos.
