Is it possible to change the default download folder for transferring pictures from my phone to my MacBook Pro? It is currently the Public folder. I would like to create a specific folder for the transfer of pictures, another for the transfer of files, etc.

My iPhoto (called Photos) resides in the Media section of the finder window unlike the Pictures folder which is grouped in the Favorites section. The media section does not show up in the regular finder window. It shows up only when trying to attach a file. I've tried to drag and drop the Photos folder to drop inside the Pictures folder but it won't.
I'm hoping to reorganize my iPhoto library to an external drive and am having difficulity making sure I'm finding the correct files, etc.

I accidentally moved "My Pictures" folder from the My Favorites sidebar in Finder, and I can no longer find the folder. I've searched "all my files" for a My Pictures folder and nothing has come up, not even in the trash (that I haven't yet emptied). I am wondering if there is anyway of getting this folder back, as I had several pictures and folders organized within that My Pictures folder. All of my pictures are somewhere still on my computer but even they are hard to locate now without them being in any folder. Would be difficult to have to re-organize every single thing that was in that folder.

I recently made "the switch". I place all of my pictures in the my pictures folder on my imac and then did an import thru iphoto. Now my pictures folders are still showing up in the pictures folder along with iphoto library. Are these picture files duplicated? Can i delete the original folders i drug over from my external drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a macbook pro after using PC for many years. All my pictures are on the iphoto application.
What I've noticed is that if I go to the All Images folder in Finder, I can see that I have duplicate pictures and all have different sizes. What I want to know if I delete them, would I delete the ones that are in iphoto?
I imported all of my photos to iPhone, great program. But when I go to my PICTURES folder under my user name in the finder, the only way to access the pictures is to open iPhoto. Is there a few to also have the files shown individually in my photos folder so I don't have to open iPhoto each time I want to view them?
View 24 Replies View RelatedWhats going on? I just copied over everything via migration assisstant on this new install of osx. But my pictures folder was empty - i must have somehow not copied it initially, and now I can't even save to it.
Also, I can't even seem to set an internet picture to my desktop...I click the set to desktop when the mini computer screen and image comes up, but nothing changes.
This is an admin account, i changed read and write permissions to everyone on the my pictures folder.
So I would like to know if there is an actual physical folder housing all my iPhoto Library pics or is it literally just in the application? And is there a way to make it so I have them in a folder but iPhoto can still access them without putting two copies of every pic on my computer?
View 24 Replies View RelatedAnyways, so when you go to change your background. You have all these options to choose from folder wise. Well I remember clearly, very very clearly back in Tiger that you could create a folder, or just an existing folder within say "Photos" and you could click it and it would access that folder and all its pictures. Mainly for changing the pictures every 5/10/30/day w/e I like my background to change often. Many pictures.
Well I have had leopard for a while. I forgot when I installed it. But I have noticed ever since then that when I try and change my background. It only lets me use photos that are inside the original Photo folder. There are no folders present inside the photo folder in the Background change area. Only pictures are present. This is a huge issue due to how I like to have things organized.
I've googled this and it was dicussed a year ago here but I was wondering anybody has figured it out.
I've copied some desktop image folders into library/desktop pictures but when I open System Preferences my new folders cannot be seen.
Using Terminal to copy a backup copy of iPhoto Library to a user account's Pictures folder, I ended up turning the entire Pictures folder into a Package/Application (that's what it is recognized as). How do I turn it back into a folder? I cannot do anything with it otherwise, such as create a folder in it

I have just installed a new 128 SSD into my MacBook Pro instead of SuperDrive and kept also the old HDD inside. I made a clean install of Lion on the SSD which created a new Pictures folder on the SSD, but I want to have it linked to the old HDD. Is there any way how to change destination of these default folders? (I have tried to create symbolic link and put it instead of the Pictures folder, but Lion does not let me delete the Pictures folder...)

What I'd like to be able to do is when I drag a file over an external hard drive disk image, I like for that to open so I can choose the sub-directory where I'd like to place the file. How can I set up 10.6.x to allow me to do this?
I can't open the Pictures or Music or any other folders that I have in Users on my hard drive

IMAGINE I have 2 hard disk partitions on the SAME hard disk,
one is called 'Macintosh HD' and the other is called 'My Data'.
The Plan:
In the 'Macintosh HD', there are (1) system files & (2) users' settings.
In the 'My Data', there are all the music, pictures, etc.
For example, the 'Macintosh HD' has 40GB and the 'My Data' has 120GB.
All I want to do is to separate the SYSTEM and my DATA without migrating my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' which contains folders called 'Music', 'Pictures'... to the partition 'My Data'.
I want to separate the system files and my data incase I need to reinstall the Mac OS X while leaving all my data untouched.
So the way I should do (I guess) is to leave my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' empty,
and create files called, for example, 'My Music', 'My Pictures', etc. in the 'My Data' partition.
Then redirect the files 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' to 'My Music', 'My Pictures', etc. in the 'My Data' partition.
In Windows XP or Windows 7, you can redirect those as using the methods below:
(1)[URL]
But I just don't know how to do that in Mac OS X, it seems that Mac OS X doesn't even provide a way for users to do so:
[URL]
I saw a reply in macrumors forum and tried to move the 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. folders,
but it turned out that those files were being copied, not moved.
So I can't move the 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. to the partition 'My Data' and make aliases of them which can be put in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD'.
So, are there only 3 options for me too choose?
(1) stop trying to fight Apple and Mac OS X on where it puts things, just put all the things in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD', using only 1 partition
(2) move my home folder to the other disk partition, in this case, the partition 'My Data'
(3) can't redirect the location of Music', 'Pictures', etc. folders in my home folder in the 'Macintosh HD', but just simply put things in the 'My Data'.
I've been struggling to move my data (photos / music etc) from my old G5 imac to my new imac (lion).Had iphoto all sorted (copied the files from external HD to Pictures folder. But now when I click on 'photos' it opens terminal (!!??)*I can see the files within but only if I CTRL click and choose 'open package'.I really don't understand. I just opened iphoto and it says I have to 'upgrade' again.I did just attempt to open the original iphoto library which is still on the connected hard drive but I didn't upgrade and don't know why that would affect the duplicate library on my new imac?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOK, brand new to Aperture from iPhoto. Not a professional just a frequent traveller with lots of pictures. In iPhoto we had Folders say "Travel" then Sub-Folders like "Turkey" then folders in there for various cities, so "Istanbul" for example. Then inside there we have an album.
Projects is unimportant to us because we do such a good job of organizing our photos, usually at the end of the day, but certainly on the plane ride home.I have Projects hidden in Aperture so that is fine. But today we tried to make a new Folder and it placed it at the bottom of Projects, if we make an album it places it at the bottom of all the other Folders in our Picture library.
Our work around was go back to iPhoto which works the way we want it to.Short of dragging the Folder that Aperture made in Projects down or working in iPhoto is there any other way to make a Folder appear automatically in the Pictures area vs. Projects?
iPhoto doesn't open some event pictures. It shows a bla k screen with a "!" mark.

I have a brand new macbook pro that I bought about 4 months ago. I am running snow leopard and out of the blue one day my computer gave me the spinning wheel and it went on for so long I had to power off my notebook by holding down the power. When I turned it back on I was stuck on the apple screen and I couldn't get passed it. So, I did a clean install and just moved all of my personal files and folders that my computer backed up to their original location.
After doing all of this and being up and running again I noticed when I try to access a personal folder on my system that contains images (jpegs, pngs) and some videos and psd files that my computer starts freezing up again and spinning and I have to power it off to get it to stop. I have resorted my permissions and ran Onyx once a week since this has happened and the folder is still giving me issues. I need to access this folder asap.
