View 1 RepliesI have this wierd thing going on - when I copy pictures (jgp) from my MacBook to my standalone NAS (samba share based) - they are not visible from within Finder. I have to manually open a terminal and do a "ls" to see that they are there.
This only happens with copying Mac->NAS, and not with PC->NAS. In fact, if I copy the folder with all the hidden .jpgs over to my PC, I can even see them there. It just says it contains 234 pictures when I bring up the folder properties.
Anyone know whats causing this, or what I can do to failsearch?

I would like to create a Smart folder that only has applications & utilities in a sub-folder.
This will be similar to the default applications folder that shows in the dock, but without all the extra files & folders - just a list of applications.
I can do this by esily by just having a smart folder of applications showing only type=application.
However, I would still like to have utilities in a sub-folder.
If thats not possible, then it would be OK to have 2 seperate smart folders, 1 for apps excluding utilities & 1 for utilities only.
Is there some way in the smart folder options i can exclude a sub directory?
I must have done something to my installation of OS X. When I go to create a new folder, it automatically creates the folder with the name "untitled folder". The problem is, the name isn't selected. Normally, when you create a new folder, you can just type the name immediately. For me, I have to create the new folder, then click on the name to select the text and then type it. Also, when I do go to type in the new name, the text "untitled folder" doesn't disappear. I just type over it.

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

I have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.

Using Terminal to copy a backup copy of iPhoto Library to a user account's Pictures folder, I ended up turning the entire Pictures folder into a Package/Application (that's what it is recognized as). How do I turn it back into a folder? I cannot do anything with it otherwise, such as create a folder in it

Anyway, one of my home folders for a user account has gone missing. when you are logged into the account it belongs to you can navigate to it via finder. However you cannot see the folder via finder from any other account. This account is NOT an admin. I had this problem when I was running tiger and it still remains now that I have leopard. 2Ghz INtel core 2 duo Aluminum iMac.

I have just installed a new 128 SSD into my MacBook Pro instead of SuperDrive and kept also the old HDD inside. I made a clean install of Lion on the SSD which created a new Pictures folder on the SSD, but I want to have it linked to the old HDD. Is there any way how to change destination of these default folders? (I have tried to create symbolic link and put it instead of the Pictures folder, but Lion does not let me delete the Pictures folder...)

View 8 Replies View RelatedFirstly, I know pretty much nothing about how to use Automator, nor do I know if it's even the right thing to be useing for this. What I would like to do is create a service that appears when I right click on a folder that sends that folder to DaisyDisk for scanning. I know that the application accepts folders via drag & drop onto the app (or alias). This is Plan B as I would much rather be able to simply work from within Finder via context sensitive menus.I've poked around in Automator in creating a new service, but I can't find a way to invoke or pass anything along to DaisyDisk.

I am wanting to create a Folder inside a Folder { Sub Folder } in Bookmarks.
How do I do this. I had started a Discussion about this here: [URL]
Yesterday, I reinstalled leopard, as I was having errors, and random problems. I backed everything up fine, however I forgot an important /.hidden file I had with some bank data. The machine was on a time machine backup.
Any chance to get it back some how? Would time machine back, it up? Any program that may allow me to get it back if it is still on the drive? I just did a standard quick erase before installing osx again.
Does anyone know where the "Welcome Movie" the one after the finished tiger install is done. Its the movie with 7 or 8 different country welcomes? I'm trying to find it in the OS but the folder is hidden. I wanna see it again before I upgrade to bigger internal HDD.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUgh. So I was cleaning out my HD with 'WhatSize' and saw the 'private folder', which was about 4.6 GB. Thinking nothing of it and also suspecting that this might be the folder responsible for the my auto-depleting harddrive I trashed it. Upon stupidly emptying the trash I found that some files were emptied while most of them survived. Noticing that I wasn't able to open iTunes or even reinstall it, I restarted the computer.
Now, I can't get into Snow Leopard and have to use Windows (I have Bootcamp). I tried doing the "ditto /volumes..." command in single-user mode, but it says it couldn't find my username. I tried looking up the username with the 'launch ctl load' command, but it can't find the Directory Services file. Is there any way I can get Snow Lepoard back without losing any space? I have a lot of important media that I would really like to keep (photos, films, music, etc.)
In the root folder there is a hidden folder called "home"
There is nothing in this folder and wanted to ask two questions.
1. Can I use it
2. If so how can I make it visible.
I want to create a full screen slideshow of my pictures (from the finder). Coverflow won't do full screen, and Quick Look doesn't work well. If I go full screen I can't skip to the next picture. I can highlight multiple pictures then open Quick Look to be able to scroll to scroll through them, but it's long and tedious. Say I want to just make a slideshow from a folder of pictures without having to highlight everything and open Quick Look, is there a quick way to do this?
I thought of using Front Row (I had never tried it before), but it's telling me Pictures (0) when I have lots of folders and pictures in my home folder. Does Front Row only use pictures imported in iPhoto (which I don't use?) In Front Row, when I click on "Sources", it brings me to "Alex's MacBook" (the name of my computer) but I can't go anywhere from there or even change it, if I click it goes back to the menu.
I have to supply a generated set of files a couple of dozen logos as .eps files in a folder containing some other nested folders to a small enterprise that uses PCs for their day to day work.
The people I'm dealing with are not very IT-savvy and if I could, I'd provide a set of these folders and files without the corresponding invisible files that usually have a dot at the beginning of their file-names.
I'll probably zip the whole lot up and email, rapidshare or yousendit it over to them so they can unpack it and get to business without me having to explain what all those files with the dots are, and how to get rid of them.
I have a large file called: .QT-028a-c6376c1e-bfffec5c-00 in my Downloads Folder. It was hidden, but I unhid folders because I am doing some cleanup. What is this file and is it safe to remove?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this qualifies as a hardware issue or a software one. I recently swapped out from a PC to a iMac. I wanted to keep all my old files so I pulled out the internal HDD and placed it in a HDD Enclosure and connected it via USB 2.0. Now the Mac recognized it and all seemed well, but a hidden folder I need access to doesn't show up on my drive. If it helps, this drive was the master drive on my old PC and the file I'm trying to locate was on the desktop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn some of my folders, the inside folders appear to be blank and have no text. When I click on the folder icon, the name of the folder is there, but there appears to be a hard return at the end of the text. When I delete the hard return, the text becomes visible.
Rather than go to each folder and do this - why this is happening, and how to correct all the folders wherever they may be on any disk.
