MacBook Pro :: Network Fails After VPN Connection

Apr 26, 2012

I use VPN to connect to my work. Sometimes I leave it on when I stop for the night. When I go into work, I usually can login to my laptop either via VNC or ssh even when the tunnel is enabled. But, now my laptop becomes totally unresponsive and unable to receive or initiate connections. After I came home, I tried the basics. DNS completely failed. Connections to my local network seemed to work OK (192.168.1.X). However, anything else was not possible. I tried running nslookup to see what was happening. [code] I tried using ifconfig to take the network interface down and then back up. I tried disabling and re-enabling wifi. About the only thing I've been able to do is reboot the machine.

Mac Mini :: Network Connection Fails (Internet And Server)

May 7, 2012

I have a Mac Mini running OS 10.6.8.

Suddenly the networking functionality has stopped working and the diagnostics fails to fix it.  It shows all green lights apart from Internet and Server which both show as FAILED.

My router is operational and does assign the Mac Mini the correct IP address (confirmed by the Mac Mini and the Router).  All other devices on the network work and can access the internet as usual.

I have tried everything that I can think of but just can't get it working again.

The same symptoms occur for both the wired ethernet and the wireless connection with the build-in airport.

PowerPC :: G5 Network Connection Fails "other Application Changed"?

Jan 12, 2011

I have: Power PC G5 dual 2.3 w 10.4.11 os, Lost Internet connection. (ethernet cable direct to router), No known cause. Checked router, cable etc. All work fine w other computers etc. router does not "see/read" when cable connected to G5. I figured Ethernet card is dead. Can't afford new card figured I'd try: Net gear G54 wireless USB adapter, just to get back online. Downloaded driver for Mac etc. Went to System Prefernces to set up. Opened System Preferences then Network, Automatically this message drops down: "Your network settings have been changed by another application" When I click "ok" same message automatically drops back down. Cannot access "Network settings" at all.

MacBook Pro :: "Network Connection The Communication Device Selected For Your Connection Does Not Exist?

Mar 16, 2012

The internal modem in my PowerBook Pro (mid 2010) shows up as "not connected" in the Network pane of system preferences, but I can't figure out how to get it to connect. When I enter my phone number and click the connect button, I get an error message: "Network Connection The communication device selected for your connection does not exist. Verify your settings and try reconnecting." Say what? It says it exists in the System Preferences, shows it in the list on the left. How can it not exist?

Macbook Pro (Lion 10.7.3) Will Not Connect To Wi-Fi / Persistant 'connection Time-out' And Fails

Apr 28, 2012

I can see this seems to be a common problem, and it is amazing that there seems to be no consensus (that I can find) on what the underlying problem is.I have two Macbook Pro 13's.Pretty much identical setups (Lion 1.7.3 etc.).One, works flawlessly connecting to Wi-Fi whether that is my Airport Express, or any other open or closed networks. The second, will continually refuse to connect to the Airport Express or even a wide-open 802.11b network. It will continually pop up the "connection timeout" erorr, and refuse to connect.Iphones etc all connect perfectly.Even when connecting to the iPhone hotspot - the same error.

This will happed consistently, until I give up.I can leave it for a day (use ethernet), and come back tomorrow, and voila - it will connect.I may be able to use it for a day or several, but once it decides to 'fail', there is virtually nothing I can do to bring it back it will continue to fail over and over again. All updates are applied, I've cleaned out all other networks etc from the list.Tried all civilized things that I can.Anyone have any other insight? I was thinking to yank the wi-fi module from the working notebook to the non-working one as a test.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Force System To Use Second Connection Of Network Connection List For Internet Access?

Jul 5, 2012

I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences. So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions. Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Internet Connection Fails Even Though Connected?

May 12, 2012

As of this morning my Macbook is failing to connect to the internet even though both the ethernet and airport are showing they are connected and are green in the network panel. My husband's internet connection is fine (we both have Macbooks and go through the same router) hence I'm able to send this out. After looking at a similar discussion list, we have tried restarting the computer, deleting airport and adding it back in (although it's also an ethernet problem), deleting system configuration, restoring the whole Library..

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Ethernet Internet Connection Fails But Not WiFi?

Jun 29, 2012

I am on a Mac Mini connected to the Net via a FON wireless router and Ethernet directly to my broadband modem. I have had problems with both the modem and an Airport Extreme, which eventually died, but I am back up again with the modem via the FON router. The odd thing is that I can't get Ethernet to work over a direct connection to the modem. Diagnostics tells me that the ISP and Internet fails. I can connect to the modem over Ethernet, however, change its settings etc. in my browser. There are solutions mentioned here involving changing the etc/authorization file, but wouldn't that also affect the WiFi if that was the problem?

In short, Ethernet connection to modem works. WiFi connection to FON router and then to the ISP and Internet works. But the Ethernet configuration does't go that last bit, it only works locally. Using that route, I can't connect to the outside world. I have restarted the modem, the computer etc., but that should not be the problem as both works over WiFi, using the same settings for the modem. How do I best troubleshoot this? I am getting an AirPort Express, perhaps it will work better with the modem that the computer itself, but I doubt it.

Hardware :: Airport DHCP Fails To Get Address (Mac On Windows Network)?

Jun 7, 2006

I am a comitted Mac switcher trying to put my lovely new MacBook onto the office Windows network. I can connect to the office wireless network (WEP key etc) and the little radar Icon in the menu bar lights up. However, I cannot get the MacBook to obtain an IP address via DHCP. I just keep getting the default self assigned address (169.....).

However, when I connect to the network via a cable using the built in ethernet connector, I get the DHCP address just fine and everything works OK.Also, if I assign an IP address manually to the wireless card (checking it is a free address!) it accepts the settings but I cannot network, not even a basic ping of another machine on the local internal network (all our internal machines are using 10.0.0.x addresses and 255.255.255.0 sub net)The DHCP server is not in the wirless router but is a Windows server machine. This is driving me crazy. I have called Apple care and they just dont want to know because there is a Windows machine in the mix. I expected better from them,

OS X :: Ad Hoc Network Wiped Out Regular Network Connection?

Jan 7, 2011

I've searched and don't see anybody else with this problem. I tried to set up an ad hoc network on my MBP so I could use TouchAble with my new iPad. But now I can't get my MBP (or iPad) to see my home wifi network.

(TouchAble is a music performance app on the iPad that controls Ableton Live on the MBP. It works on an ad hoc network so the combo will work on gigs without depending on local wifi.)

I set up a new network ok, with a password. The iPad saw it, but before I tested it further I wanted to make sure I could reinstate my regular network. So I tried switching back to the regular wifi. No dice! The MBP sees the network, but I can't log in. It acts like the password is wrong. Same on the iPad.

Yes, the network works. I didn't make changes to the settings in my router, and my iPhone still sees it with the same password.

I tried a tip I found online and deleted the network preferences file (com.apple.smb.server.plist) and rebooting. No dice. (The system didn't write a new one, as I had expected; I had to reinstate it from the Trash). I rebooted a few times, both MBP and iPad. Nope.

What's going on here? 1) How can I get my MBP to see my network, so I can switch back and forth from the ad hoc to the local network. 2) Ditto for the iPad.

MBP is new. All systems and versions are up to date. No other funny stuff with the network--it's been stable for two years. Everything is stand-alone; this is in my home office. I'm the admin. (But I'm not a techie, so if you start talking about IP addresses and subnet masks, please be clear what I should try.)

MacBook :: Unstable Network Connection - Won't Load Any Site

Nov 5, 2010

What happens is that i attend a school, where we are 700 people using the same internet. Actually it's divided into 4 sections, so there are probably 250 in my group. This network is protected by a WPA2 password, and has additional login forms, which gives the school the ability to check all in- and outgoing transfer. However, I have lately been getting some problems connecting. What happens is that I connect, and it works for about 2 minutes. Then, it just won't load any sites and just keeps trying to load until it finally admits that it can't retrieve the server. It's my third year. and I have never experienced this before, so I thought: Well, gotta be the school's internet, but i haven't heard of any other ones having this problem. This makes me worried that my macbook's airport extreme card is broken.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced a similar problem, or maybe could give a hint towards a solution? I am running a 13 inch macbook unibody (the silver one), with the newest system and all upgrades installed. Problem is: The airport extreme card is located in the display. I don't get why, but it makes me not want to change it myself, should it be destroyed.

MacBook Pro :: VPN Connection Through Network Connect, NC Does Not Load Anymore

Mar 8, 2012

I recently purchased a Mac 10.7.3. I was never a Mac user, so I am kind of lost.I was connecting through VPN Network Connect at work, but it recently stopped working. I read a few support stuff saying that there is a bug with the new JAVA update, Juniper Networks and Apple updates. I am not sure if that's what happen. This is the message that I get when I try to load Network Connect : System extension cannot be used The system extension “/usr/local/juniper/nc/7.1.0/nctun_tiger.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update. After I hit cancel and try again, I no longer get the message, but it just loads endlessly.  I tried deleting NC and reinstalling it, but it don't work.  I tried running the tunnel through Google Chrome rather than Safari. I tried Java updates. Nothing works.IT at work is not Mac friendly and the company that manages all the VPN access is also not that savy and says it's my problem. Given that I am not too familiar with Mac yet, I can't get out of it on my own.

MacBook :: Turned On - Computers Lost WiFi Network Connection

Apr 12, 2010

For the past few months I've been using my mid-2007 MacBook (running Snow Leopard) with a Samsung external TV/monitor (with the MacBook's lid closed). I had no problems whatsoever in terms of internet connection to my D-Link DIR-655 router. Yesterday for the first time since creating this setup, I took the MacBook with me somewhere. When I returned the MacBook to my network (closed lid, plugged my monitor back in), I started having WiFi trouble. The WiFi was initially running very slowly and then not at all. The WiFi icon on the menu bar was showing regular strength, however.

The complicating factor here is that when my MacBook is on, all other computers on the network show getting WiFi signals but the connection isn't working for them either. When I turned off my MacBook and powered down/up the modem and router, other computers could connect successfully. (But when I turned my MacBook on, the computers lost connectivity to the internet. I've already played with the router's channels without success. I also made sure there weren't any unnecessary items in my Mac's DNS listing.

MacBook Pro :: Repeated WiFi Timeouts With Home Network Connection

Apr 18, 2012

All day, I am able to use the internet (via WiFi connection) at the library. But when I get home, I can't connect to my home WiFi connection. This was never an issue before. I have done all of the obvious things (resetting my router, clearing saved connections from my computer and joining a 'new' network, check and installed all updates, etc etc), but nothing seems to work. All the other devices in our house are connected to the WiFi just fine.

I run the diagnostic and I'm only green on WiFi and WiFi settings, with network settings and ISP fluctuating between yellow and red, and internet and server is always red. I have tried DHCP Lease renewel (which usually does the trick when I am getting an invalid IP address (169.xxx.x.x) until I get a valid one (192.xxx.x.x). But now sometimes I'm not even getting an IP at all!All I wanna do is unwind, check/reply to emails just surf the web to decompress after my long days.
