I need to run windows OS & office so i can access my company server. What is the best platform to use & which will enable you to run both oS at the same time.

I'm getting Win7 this week. I'm getting it free from school and unsure at this point whether it will be 32 or 64 bit. That said, here's what I want to do with my setup.
1: School. I have to use Office 2007 for my classes. Office 2008 for Mac is not supported, because some of the formulas that you create in 2008 won't convert correctly into 2007 format and I can't have that. I will also use IE due to the fact that neither Firefox nor Safari will play my Mediasite classes correctly in Silverlight. Only IE allows me to speed up the playback. I am going to use Parallels 5 for this.
2: I game, but not much. The one game I love and will definitely put on my Mac is Morrowind. I want to use Boot Camp for this reason.
Soooo, I have been told that if I'm going to install Windows under Boot Camp that I should do that install first. Then install Parallels. I'm really not sure how to do any of this. I understand that I will only need to install Windows a single time and that it should work under with Boot Camp or Parallels.
i have the Boot Camp install PDF from the Apple site, but I'd love some tips, tricks, help, advice, words of wisdom, etc., from this forum. Please tell me what you think about which to install first, what approach to take, how much HDD space I should partition when I install under Boot Camp, etc.
How can I have to different windows open on my screen at one time? Kind of like a split or shared screen.

I've just got myself a nice new Mac Pro and am really surprised to find that it is more different to Windows than I was expecting. I feel like a toddler trying to learn a new language to do all the things I am used to doing on Windows.
Quite often I just Google my Q's....or search on YouTube, and usually get the answers quickly.
I can't seem to find a specific answer for this Q though.....
On Windows, whenever you downloaded something, you were given a % telling you how much had been downloaded and how much was left still. It also gave you the progress in gb / kb.Surely there must be a way of having this info show whenever I download something ? I really do not want to go to the App Store and start buying things.
I'm getting a larger hard drive for my mac - and I have all my current data backed up on my external - however I also have a windows partition with a game on it that I no longer have the disks for so I was wondering if there's anyway I can carry that over to my new HD via time machine or any other method?

I am able to connect to it as a server, but only from within my network. when I go to connect, it appears to be going through the internetz and connecting, but when I move outside of my network it does not work.

I'm using genie time machine at the moment which is really good but i wanted a wireless backup solution, i mainly use windows on my mac because i use 3ds max so its really for the windows side. Am i better off buying a decent NAS drive that i know will work for windows and try and get time machine to see it using the hack to get it to work or vice versa? The Problem:
1.I configured my TC many times with all possible configuration, the airport is working fine (LED always GREEN) but whenever i try to access the HDD it gives me: Username/Password Error, Netbios problem (Win 7) OR Semaphore timeout period expired (Win XP)...
2.When I restart the TC or the LinkSys It works one time perfectly but as soon as i change anything on TC or restart the computers cannot access again.......................
I use Quicken on my iMac via a partition using VM Fusion. I back my 4 Mac computers up to the Time Machine, but how do I back up the partitioned Quicken data?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting a friend of mine's setup to work. He's got an HP Photosmart C4480 (usb to Time Capsule) It prints fine from his macbook, but not at all from his wife's PC (laptop with XP). The PC will print fine if i directly connect the printer (usb) to the laptop (but that kinda defeats the point). I tried changing the address from time capsule.local to the ip address of the time capsule (found that suggested somewhere online) and that didn't work.
Not sure if it was before or after the above, but it worked *once* when I had the laptop connected to the TC via Ethernet (which, again, kinda defeats the point). I also tried configuring a plain generic TCP/IP printer port and setting up the printer that way (bypassing Bonjour) but it didn't work. (EDIT: Just saw a guide linked, not sure if I chose Custom Settings for the Network card - will try that first when I go back over - would still love to know if there are any other things I could be trying.) What other things can I try with the hardware they're using?
Ok so I was thinking. I know I can use an external hard drive to back up my mac with time machine. What I am not sure about, and I know it isn't a feature offered in Windows Home Server, but if I am not mistaken I can use my MacBook to access Windows Home Server to share my media right? Since it is through my network and all would I be able to just designate Windows Home Server as the location to store my Time Machine data? Incase it crashes I could just rebuild my MacBook through my network couldn't I?

Does anyone know if the problem with 7.4.1 only affects the older TCs or does it affect the new updated TCs (released earlier this year) as well? I want to buy another TC, but not if it has the 7.4.1 problem and not if it can't be downgraded to 7.3.2.

Started around 18:30, it was still running this morning and had only got to stage 4 of 5 and was on 18%, that's over 12 hours! I'm running Windows 7 64bit RC, and the partition size is 84 GB. My desktop computer on the same o/s and a 150 GB partition, took about 45-50 mins to complete this on the weekend, and I was wondering if any other MBP users had run a full checkdisk and how long it takes on their machines?

I'm trying to join my XP workgroup but cant for the life of me figure it out. I go to the network folder and it's completely empty - sit there for 30 secs and nothing loads. I remember it also took about the same time for XP Pro to load on my Parallels/VMWare before.Why does it take so long?? Does it also take so much time to boot for you guys? This especially considering my osx startup is on an intel gen 2 ssd, and the win 7 startup is on a seperate gen 2 ssd... shouldn't it be 30 seconds or so?
I just installed Parallel 5 and realized that my Mac OS shut down time is slower. Do you guys have this problem? I am using 10.6.2.

I connected the external hard drive although it was not working so I turned on time machine and tried to use this although didn't have time to set up time capsule so I just cancelled it and shut it. She turned her Mac on this morning and said that windows had completely disappeared! She took it to her local computer store, not an apple store, and was told that because time machine had been turned on and off that windows and the hard drive associated with it had all been wiped!!
