I have hooked up a windows PC to my network, the system saw the TC HD but couldn't resolve with the password. I didn't have time to trouble shoot so I choose Ignore. Now I can't get the PC to bring back the screen to try and connect to the TC. Any help restarting the service to get this back on-line?

I'm using genie time machine at the moment which is really good but i wanted a wireless backup solution, i mainly use windows on my mac because i use 3ds max so its really for the windows side. Am i better off buying a decent NAS drive that i know will work for windows and try and get time machine to see it using the hack to get it to work or vice versa? Also can you upgrade the HDD in time machines?

The Problem:
1.I configured my TC many times with all possible configuration, the airport is working fine (LED always GREEN) but whenever i try to access the HDD it gives me: Username/Password Error, Netbios problem (Win 7) OR Semaphore timeout period expired (Win XP)...
2.When I restart the TC or the LinkSys It works one time perfectly but as soon as i change anything on TC or restart the computers cannot access again.......................
I'm getting a new 13" MBA, upgrading from a 2006 macbook. I have it all backed up to time capsule. Can I just connect the MBA to my time capsule and restore the macbook image?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting a friend of mine's setup to work. He's got an HP Photosmart C4480 (usb to Time Capsule) It prints fine from his macbook, but not at all from his wife's PC (laptop with XP). The PC will print fine if i directly connect the printer (usb) to the laptop (but that kinda defeats the point). I tried changing the address from time capsule.local to the ip address of the time capsule (found that suggested somewhere online) and that didn't work.
Not sure if it was before or after the above, but it worked *once* when I had the laptop connected to the TC via Ethernet (which, again, kinda defeats the point). I also tried configuring a plain generic TCP/IP printer port and setting up the printer that way (bypassing Bonjour) but it didn't work. (EDIT: Just saw a guide linked, not sure if I chose Custom Settings for the Network card - will try that first when I go back over - would still love to know if there are any other things I could be trying.) What other things can I try with the hardware they're using?
I know that firmware 7.4.1 has caused problems for people using Time Capsules with Windows PCs: [URL] I know that this problem affects the original TCs as I actually have an original TC and I had the problem with firmware 7.4.1 (fixed by downgrading to 7.3.2). Does anyone know if the problem with 7.4.1 only affects the older TCs or does it affect the new updated TCs (released earlier this year) as well? I want to buy another TC, but not if it has the 7.4.1 problem and not if it can't be downgraded to 7.3.2.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a MBP and a Time Capsule. Still waiting on the MBP, but went ahead and set up the TC as a router for my current Dell laptop. In theory, I don't really care since I will have my MBP w/in 2.5 weeks, but is it possible for my Windows machine to see the disk on the TC? I went into TC and set up the workgroup name to be the same as the workgroup on my PC, but I still don't see it. I doubt anyone has done it, but was curious if it's possible. I assume that the Windows client should be able to access that giant disk (or a Windows user would never buy the product). One question though, it shows the filesystem as FAT32. Is that right, or just how it's represented to the Windows client?

I have never had an issue playing with my old router but have recently upgraded to the Time Capsule and I could not connect when I was playing online. I could connect initially but when I would go into a game it just would not allow me to connect to start the game. I then plugged directly into my cable modem and was able to connect right away. Do I need to go into Time capsule and adjust a setting?

I'm considering to get Time Capsule for my home network which consist of:
- One MBP (15" Unibody)
- Two Windows XP desptops (connected via Ethernet cable)
- One Windows Vista laptop
Could any Mac users help answer my queries below:
1) Since I'm going to use Time Capsule as backup storage for Time Machine. Can I still manually copy files into its HDD and share those files with other network users?
2) Can all Windows PCs use Time Capsule as a external storage for storing and sharing files even after Time Machine has "marked" it as a backup storage for my MBP?
3) I presume the HDD in Time Capsule is formatted using HFS+. In this situation, do Windows users need to install special software to access the HDD in Time Capsule?
I've searched high and low trying to solve this issue. I want to use Time Capsule as an external hard drive that is readable in Windows so I can transfer over files. I know that the Time Capsule must be formatted as FAT32. I don't even care about my Time Machine backups--I'm fine with deleting them all and reformatting so partitioning need not be done.

I am able to connect to it as a server, but only from within my network. when I go to connect, it appears to be going through the internetz and connecting, but when I move outside of my network it does not work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows XP desktop will connect flawlessly to my Time Capsule when I turn off all wireless security. I am even able to use Airport Utility on the desktop to change the wireless security to WPA/WPA2 Personal.
However, it is never able to connect wirelessly to the Time Capsule when WPA/WPA2 Personal is being utilized. The Airport Utility cannot locate the Time Capsule when WPA/WPA2 Personal is utilized.
-downloading the WAP2 windows xp hotfix
-installed airport for windows
-installed bonjour for windows
-changed from WAP2 to WEP security, still nothing
-and changed the radio signal so that it was b/g compatible
It's weird, the internet is fine, I can access the internet. But when I go to network places in the XP computer I can't see the time capsule! What do you think is wrong?
I had a macbook pro with time capsule and was using the TC as a hard drive. Macbook pro logic board has gone so until I can get a new mac, i have a windows vista laptop. I have connected to the TC, wireless working, mapped the TC in the Z:drive. When I go into the TC drive, i can only see the backed up bundled data rather than all the other crap i have saved in there. I think I'm missing a stage somewhere, perhaps need to mount the drive through windows but don't know how. In order to access all the songs etc on the TC via my macbook, I had to 'Enter Time Machine'. Seems like I have to do this through windows but have no clue where to start.
Is there a way for a windows vista machine to access TC hard drive data?
Will I have to perform a reset and configure the TC to the windows machine?
Will a reset erase the hard drive?
Question - if I have a 500GB hard drive in my MacBook, but 80GB are partitioned separately for Windows via boot camp, can I use a 500GB Time Capsule?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.
I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?
I have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.
Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.
I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.

When it comes to Apple routers I am looking at 2 options - either the base station with an external USB drive or get a 1TB capsule with the buildt in drive and worries regarding reliability.
What I like about the Time Capsule is that it is neat to have all in one, takes up less space and only has 1 plug to attach, while Iike the idea that I can just connect a bigger drive later on the base station solution.
1. Will the connected USB drive function just like the internal drive in the Time Capsule for Time Machine use?
2. Will everything be transparent to Snow Leopard?
3. In case of both units with an attached USB drive - can I control who actually can see the drive and access it?
4. Do they support this DNLA thing so that e.g . PS3 can access an attached drive??

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.
I have a MacBook Air and a Time Capsule - both from november 2011.Using Time Machine is givning me som problems.It works fine for some days, an is backing up as planned.But at least 5 times since I got the Time Capsule, Time Machine is asking to make a full Backup, and when I look in Time Machine, it says that there is no "old backup". It has been runing since november 2011.When I start a new backup, as it ask for, it takes at least 24 hours to finish - some times even longer.Is this normal? If not, what do I do?

MBP backs up everything on internal hard drive to Time Capsule at home, where we live during summer and spring. When moving to vacation home in fall and winter, MBP backs up everything to Time Capsule in vacation home.
During the 6 months at each residence, the backups work great to the Time Capsule at that particular house. However, after some time (maybe a week?), Time Machine displays an error in Notification Center: "Time Machine can't complete backup to Home Time Capsule" (when in vacation home) or "Time Machine can't complete backup to Vacation Time Capsule" (when at home).
It's obvious that this occurs because Time Machine was set to back up to 2 Time Capsules and expects both of them to be reachable. Is there a way to suppress these Time Machine errors for the time that we're away from one of the Time Capsules?
Ever since I updated to 10.6.1 I've had the following problems:
- Time Machine does not work at all with my Time Capsule. When it attempts to back up my data, Time Machine gets hung up with a status of "Making backup disk available..." and the icon in the menu bar just spins forever (the status appears in the menu bar icon's menu). I also cannot enter Time Machine; it gets hung trying to connect to the Time Capsule and I have to cancel it. Finder then takes up 100% CPU and I have to power down by holding in the power button (shutting down from the Apple menu doesn't work).
- I store my iTunes library in a folder called Music under the Data folder on the Time Capsule. When I open iTunes, it prompts me to choose my iTunes library. When I do, it starts to load the list of albums, then iTunes locks up and I must force quit it. This also causes my machine to not be able to shut down or restart from the Apple menu.
Oddly enough I can still access the Data folder from Finder with no issues. I just wanted to put this out there in case other people are having similar problems. It's pretty frustrating as all this worked fine before the 10.6.1 update.
I've just hooked up my 2 Tb time capsule, which is supposed to be the destination for time machine and also have a share folder to share music on the network. Originally I wanted to partition the drive, but since that appears to be such a headache I'll probably make do with one partition.
if time machine will try to overwrite the share folder when it runs out of disc space?

I recently bought a 500 TC and after a lot messing around i have the thing working, well near working, perfect.
The problem is, everytime it does a back up, which sometimes it has nothing to back up, it never finishes the job. In the end all i get is time machine giving me the "finishing back up" remark but the dam thing never actually finishes.
I have left it in the above state for sometimes hours just to see of it would finish and alas no joy!! Also, if i try and do anything else on my Macbook, while time machine is working, the "beach ball of death" apears and freezes my computer. Hence, everytime my Mac backs up i have to crash my computer which is annoying to say the least.
I did a lot of reading around various problems when using time machine and TC but can't find any solutions but lots of problems. TC is the worst apple product i've ever brought, it's been nothing but up hill trying to get this thing to work just like it says on the box.
I'm wondering whether its the TC or simply that time machine doesn't like my computer for some reason.

My MacBook Pro locks up and shows the message "Please reboot your computer by holding down the power button" every time that Time Machine tries to run a backup. I turned off Time Machine and no more crashes... Sorta makes my 500 Gig Time Capsule useless.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been having a few problems with my TM backups since I got my new iMac (my MBA is working fine).
Something strange that I've noticed is when I enter into Time Machine (the program). Sometimes I see a bunch of my backups with times and dates where I can scroll through the different saves and restore if I want to. Other times though when I go into TM I only see the current save point. I can't scroll back and it only says Today on the right without any other save points. It is almost like I've only done one TM backup.
The other strange thing that I see is if I look at iStat. Sometimes it shows two Time Capsule hard drives and other times it shows only one. If I choose to change disk in Time Machine preferences the Time Capsule is listed twice. I don't think it has anything to do with a partition (which I never did) because both drives show the same used and free info (something like 377 free of 461) and I only have a 500GB drive.
