Windows On Mac :: Time And Date Changed Using BootCamp
Aug 9, 2009
Whenever I use bootcamp, and go to Windows. When I get back to OS X, I find the time and date has changed. It always goes, one day ahead, 2 hours and will be the odd to what time it is (PM & AM). How can I stop this?

I am on Tiger 10.4.11 on Mac Book Pro Intel duo. All updates except for Parallels installed. Have run permissions repairs and preferential treatment. Tried to delete preferences for system ... Every time I try to uncheck the box marked or open the Date and Time preferences, it freezes and have to force quit.

So I shut down my computer earlier today for the first time in weeks. I restarted it and then left for a few hours for dinner.
I come home and I look at the last time MobileMe Sync and Time Machine did their things. They say they did them at 7:45. I look at the clock on my cable box and on my iPhone, both say 6:45.
Weird that the MacBook's time is wrong. I go into Time Date settings. I see that when the MacBook does the "Auto locate where you are so that we can set the appropriate time zone, etc. the MacBook things I'm in Rexford, Idaho.
I haven't been to Idaho in about 25 years, and my MacBook has been sitting in Southern Kalifornia for the last one year since I bought it.I've tried to have the MacBook auto-locate again, and it keeps finding me us in Rexford, idaho.

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a G4 iBook. Somehow my Time & Date files got corrupted which prevented me from getting on to the internet. When I discovered the problem, I threw them away, thinking a restart would create them again. I was wrong.
Now my computer doesn't know what time or year it is, causing various problems. I don't have back-up 10.5 disks to extract the time & date package. Can I download a replacement anywhere?
Or can someone email the files to me? I don't know what they're called but, if you search time and date, there are only two (and please tell me what folders they're in too)

Starting yesterday, I cannot load Time & Date (either from System Prefs or from the menu bar). I get the beachball and I have to Force Quit System Prefs.
I tried Repairing Permissions and rebooting but it didn't help.I tried deleting .plist entries (as per a related thread on the Internet) and rebooting and that didn't work either.I tried logging off and logging in with another account and the problem is still there.I hope I can get some help because it's driving me nuts. I travel a lot and need to change my time zone. If you need a crash report from me, please tell me how to get it from Console bc I don't know where to look for it!
P.S. I am using old OSX 10.4.11

I want to change the iCal icon, I have already actually changed it (all five files) but the date that it shows will not go away. I've tried removing dozens of files and the whole iCalDockTilePlugIn folder, logged out and in, killed the dock more times than I can count and it's still there.

I didn't know where to post this question. When I import photos from my Canon T3i and my iPhone4, the creation date of the photo is the date imported, not the date I took the photo. While in Finder, if I look at the photo information, the creation date is the date the photo was imported (for both the Canon and iPhone photos). I'm trying to understand why this is happening. When I import the photos into iPhoto, the date I took the photo is there. While that seems like the solution, it isn't since I don't import all photos into iPhoto. If I look at the photos on the memory card, the date is correct. The only time the creation date is not correct is when I import on to my iMac or MacBook. I'm using Snow Leopard and have no plans to upgrade to Lion.

I have to boot into bootcamp frequently and it seems that shutting down osx, restarting into win 7/bootcamp takes quite a while... 1 minute and 40 seconds...?
This especially considering my osx startup is on an intel gen 2 ssd, and the win 7 startup is on a seperate gen 2 ssd... shouldn't it be 30 seconds or so?

I want to make sure I'm doing this properly. I recently acquired a Macbook Pro, along with legit copy of Win Vista. So here's what I did:1. Reinstall Mac OS X from scratch, then get ALL the software updates. Perfectly clean! Then installed the additional applications from the 2nd disk (Q1: Is that second disk what is called Leopard?)2. Backed up my Mac with Time Machine to my external Seagate drive.3. Used Bootcamp to create a partition, then install Windows Vista Home Basic edition on to it, then installed the Macbook Pro drivers, then got ALL the microsoft updates (which took forever).

I want to load XP via Bootcamp OR virtual on my personal macbook pro. However I need my XP image for work and want to do my own backup instead of waiting for my slow desktop support to fix my image. So, if I run Time Machine, will it notice all of my changes every night (backup) that I make on my bootcamp image XP.

After restoring my Mac disk to a single volume, and deleting the BootCamp Assistant, I am now having a couple of issues, possibly more still to be found. I initially partitioned my HD to 5GB, but never went on to install Windows. After a while of leaving my HD partitioned, I choose to de-partition it. To do so I opened BootCamp Assistant by double clicking it. Clicked to restore the startup disk to a single volume, followed this up by inputting my admin info (name/password), then my Mac restarted. Last night this successfully removed the partition (hopefully no steps were left out of my description). I then downloaded a Firmware EFI Update that was supposed to be for those who've recently removed Boot Camp.
I figured this whole process would leave me as if I never did the whole partition thing, but now startup has become quite a long process. It was always rather fast. At startup, I now get to see a blank white screen for too long before I see the grey Apple logo and Mac OSX start up. Besides that, I believe my battery life might now be going down faster than before. I've been searching for answers on this forum and [URL] and have found similar complaints regarding startup times, but no definite answer to my problem. Besides the slow startup time and what might be seeming as a shorter battery (although I really haven't clocked before and after), everything else seems to be running fine.

I'm a potential switcher and I'm still going back and forth between a top of the line Thinkpad T410 and MBP 15. A big reason I'm heavily considering the MBP is that I'm interested in using Mac OS, if for nothing better than it being different and new. I'm a long-time Windows guy, and I'm actually pretty impressed with Windows 7, but I have admired Mac OS from a distance. A recent line of thinking has been: I might as well get the MBP because it can run both Windows 7 and Mac OS, whereas the Thinkpad T410 can only run Windows 7. Since I've never really used Mac OS, my fear is that in a month, i'll miss Windows 7 (unlikely, but still a possibility...). In the event that I used MBP as primarily a Windows machine, I've heard that it runs hot and the power management support is poor at the moment. I plan on leaving the MBP plugged in as a desktop about 90% of the time.
So several questions:
1) Do any of you run Windows 7 through bootcamp for a significant amount of time on your Macbook Pro's?
2) Apart from poor battery management, how is Windows 7?
3) Just for reference, is there eventually going to be improved power management support and driver updates? (From what i googled, it seems like they missed their 2009 deadline, but I can't seem to find any word that they intend to eventually release updated drivers)

I had Win XP servicepack 3 installed via bootcamp. Recent OSX updates changed bootcamp and it supports now only Win 7. I was not informed about this change. So to be able to use my Win XP applications again I bought Win 7 Pro 64 bit OEM. The CD will work until I have to install and format the new created partition. I cannot choose between FAT or NTFS the installation continues and Windows will be unpacked. The counter remains on (0). Nothing happens further.

My date and time resets each time my mac sleeps or is reset or if I open date and time options. It keeps sending emails of my old reminders from 2008/2009 from ical and my to-do list emails me its reminders. This happens every time I open my comp or even just open date and time options. I also get the ical reminder notification that pops up freezes on my screen.

Okay, so I am running OSX and Vista on Bootcamp. I have noticed that when I use Windows or just even restart OSX that my date and time changes. Today it changed to March 1, 2000. I am curious as to why this happens. My time zone is fine. I think it has something to do with the Vista configuration.

We got a refurbished Alu MB for an intern and the time is not displaying properly. If I check the "Set date & time automatically", the digital and analog clock is showing different times. See picture. Also, when I go in Time Zone, I set Eastern time, it will set it, but when I go back to preference, it sets back to GMT.
It's running 10.5.6 if that helps.

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.
Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

I've had time machine running for about 10 months. Today I needed to rely on it for the first time to restore a MySQL database I deleted by accident. To my horror the last backup in Time Machine was six months out of date even though I work on this database every day! I've completely lost faith in it and I'm feeling really let down. Is this a common problem? Have I got a setting wrong or is Time Machine just a complete waste of time?

I had long noticed that you cannot put the Date in the menu bar with the time. This has bugged me for a while. So with a quick search I found a way to do this natively.[URL]
I know this isn't necessarily a huge revelation, but in case it was on anyone's mind to achieve this.

My sister's Macbook is set to go to sleep after 16 minutes of no activity.
She went out for half an hour and when she returned the macbook had shut down.
The date is showing as January 1st 2001 and the clock began the time at 00:00.
Everything else on the computer is fine, but she cannot correct the date and time.
When she tries restarting the computer she is given a warning that the date and time are incorrect but still cannot fix it.

Ok so if I have everything closed I can see the date and time on the upper right and everything else like normal. If I open up any other program like itunes I can see the date and time like normal. However as soon as I open up safari the date and time disapears. If I switch between safari and any open program like itunes the time reappears. Same thing if I have safari open and click on the desktop it brings up finder and the time shows again. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but when Im in safari I cant open any of the menus on top (file, edit, view, history, etc.). Ive tried clicking on them and using the shortcut keys and nothing works. I can still use safari fine other than that. This all started after the last system update I had a few days ago. Ive triend resetting my computer and shutting it down but nothing seems to help.
