I've got the new i5 mbp which has the right angle magsafe plug. Can I use any older magsafe adapter on the machine?I need 2 more (one for work and one for home), i'm too lazy to take it out of the bag, or I always forget to put it back when I need it.

Since updating, my computer is barely usable. Geekbench score fell from ~5400 to ~ 2300, so it's not just my imagination. I was exporting video and the processor didn't even feel warm, but Activity Monitor reported that it was giving it all the power it had. Anybody else seen this? I'm on a 13" mid 2011 Air with the i7 nad 256GB SSD.

So the power cord coming out of the AC adapter to the Magsafe melted and almost started a fire. There is about an inch selection where all I can see now is the metal wiring underneith, all the insulation is off. Is this covered under AppleCare? Since it was smoking and almost caused a fire, would this have harmed my MacBook Pro? I'm lucky that when I returned home nothing was damaged. How do I document this? What's protocol on issues such as this? This has never happened to me before.

My Macbook Pro is running slugishly. Sometimes I request a HELP dialog box and it never appears or it appears blank. Sometimes applications don't work. I went to Disk Repair and ran a VERIFY on disk permissions. There were a thousand of permissions that were not correct. Mostly they were from EPSON and from AIR PORT UTILITIES.
There was one warning: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I installed Rosetta Stone recently. Most of the AIR PORT UTILITIES are language related (French, Spanish, English). Should I repair my permissions? I wouldn't want my printer or Rosetta Stone or something worse to stop working because I repaired my Hard Disk permissions.

There is a lot going on about the new macbook pro retina and stuttering/scroll lag. I'm also experiencing this problem and i've found out that if you remove adobe flash from your pc the stuttering / scroll lag in safari is almost gone completely.

If you have Adobe Flash installed and scroll down to the comments the browser starts stuttering and everything gets sluggy.

So I took my MBP into the apple store today and explained that my original hard drive was showing as failing after my two momentus xt drives were apparently failing as well. He said it was really strange and hooked up the drive to their external interface and low and behold there was no errors on the drive. He said it's most likely being caused by IO errors due to a bad SATA cable or possibly logic board. We had my MBP sent in for testing. So basically if you see SMART failing status it may not be the drive after all.

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15" Unibody and my titanium steel watch is resting against the wrist rest. Which is the most reliable and affordable option to protect it from scratches on the wrist rest and the top and bottom of it's body.

I just bough a 13in MBP yesterday at bestbuy because they let me get my student discount and they gave me an ipod touch for free without the rebate. So When I got home and opened it I noticed a pretty deep scratch in it right above the power button about a half an inch long that wont come out if i try to clean it. My question is do you think that would be enough of a reason to exchange it? I know its only cosmetic but I really dont think that should be there when you buy a brand new computer. What do you think?

I don't think it does but I just wanted to make sure that a scratch on the MBP does not void the warranty.

Since I got my new MBA, I am afraid of closing the lid without using the factory keyboard layer fearing the keys may scratch the monitor. Am I being paranoid? I am sure the keyboard has been designed as to not touch the screen when its folded right?

I just had the laptop on one hand, and was carrying my dog on the other hand and as soon as I turned around it hit a door. Now that's how that scratch got there. I'm so sad because I was so taking care of it! It's under the mini monitor port as you can see. Does anybody know how I can get that scratch off? [URL]

I am sure this has probably been asked a million times but is there anyway to touch up a black mark thats on my macbookpro. It doesn't look like a scratch, more the aluminum finish has rubbed off or been scratched slightly.

Now for those of you who used mbp for a while, how easily do the aluminum unibody dent/scratch? it seems every single used mbp on ebay i see had some sort of dent on it. All of the mbp casings look bad, including the see thru one, they defeat the purpose of having a slick unibody mbp. The only option is those invisible films that stick onto the mbp, but they need water to install. None of them seems like good options. Anyway I am thinking of just getting a sleeve and leave the mbp naked. Is that a good idea?

I was thinking about possibly selling my MacBook Pro and purchasing the 11.6-inch Air because I'm a college student who doesn't need much more than word processing, web browsing, iTunes, and portability. But I hear that the Airs don't have the glass covering of the Pro... Is the screen itself plastic or glass and does it scratch easily?

i got a screen scratch on my Computer about 4 months ago and it is now bothering me. I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. Because on white it makes a Kind of Rainbow effect. Now i've seen 2 methods i think that could work. One is using a Combination of Tooth paste a Petroleum Jelly... while another is using Nail Polish Remover to buff it out. Link: [URL]

I have had my MacBook (aluminum) for 6 days, and all of a sudden I go to plug it in to charge (10% left) and the led on the magsafe doesn't come on and the computer doesn't recorgnize the charger (even in system profiler). Upon closer inspection I noticed the LED is on on the magsafe, it is just a very faint shade of green. I have tried a charger from a different MacBook but no luck. And I have also tried my charger and a different macbook and it charged it just fine.. so it's probably not my charger. I know I can go get it replaced but I would really like to not have to take a 45 minute drive to the apple store if i can avoid it. Also, if I get a replacement is it possible for them to just swap my HDD with the new one?

So my replacement magsafe adapter is acting up, it seems these last about six months... My MBP is just fresh out of warranty but I recall reading something about "Even if your notebook is out of warranty" somewhere on the apple site. I can't imagine this is the case, but is it? Can I get a new magsafe?
