So a while ago i got a copy of windows and installed it completely over my macbook pro, making it the only operating system.I was wondering how to switch back.

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.
But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.
Ive got a 13" MBP and a 120GB Vertex 2E with the optibay option where im going to put the factory HDD in the optibay.
First of all im not worried about retaining any information on the drives so it 'should' be a straightforward task.
Once all the components are in place do i just pop in the the OSX cd that came with my mac into an external optical drive and reinstall the OS?
My mac says I can upgrade my OS to 10.5.7 with a size of 737MB to install along with itunes and a Quicktime update. The update (and programs) download fine, the problem comes in with the install. When I shut down my computer and begin the install process, the status bar moves only a little bit, then stays put. I left my computer on my desk for about 30 minutes and it is still at the same spot.

I've done the press Option key and there I can choose the OSX install cd but then after I press it the screen changes to the apple logo and sits there. Do I need to wait for a long time or something? I've made a partition using bootcamp assistant, and I have an .iso of the legal disk. I used to install a VMware image, but I plan to replace it with the bootcamp image once I get that done; haven't even activated windows.
I have installed rEFIt; have the .iso and the files copied from the iso into the BOOTCAMP partition; but when it tries to boot to there, it complains about not being a system disk, or some such. One poster noted having two entries in rEFIt, and the useful one had something about a boot/cdboot.efi option, but I don't see that option in rEFIt anywhere.
Has anyone else made progress on this?
Also, it'd be great if one of these things could be made sticky, given the hassle it seems to be, and the several threads that have cropped up with questions, and not much in the way of answers.
I'm away at my parents and forgot my superdrive. Can I install software I have on a CD using my parents computer's cd drive?? I can't find the application to use in apps > utilities

Soon, I am going to buy another MacBook (new white plastic, nvidia series) and I was wondering if I could just remove the HD of that machine and put in the old HD from my last MacBook? Would it still work like the last one did, or would there be differences because of new hardware? Not sure about this at the moment.

I was replacing my RAM y'day for my 13inch macpro, opening the back cover was very easy, but when I tried putting it back, two of the small screws won't tighten fully. A small part of the screw (25%) wont screw in completely. I can sense the the screw projection when I feel it with fingers. I tried the same angle as shown in the manual to unscrew and screw. And I took spl care to use the same screws for the same holes. I tried to fix it for 1hr, but the two small screws never fits.
I just purchased a 2008 15" MBP from the refurb store and would like to know whether it's possible to install a ssd?

I have downloaded OSX updated 10.7.3 through software update. Once it has downloaded I follow instructions to restart and install the update. My macbook shuts everything down and lands up at the login screen. Please help to install this update

I am selling my MBP, so I used the Snow Leopard desk to "wipe" my data from the machine, and then I re-intalled OS 10.6. Now the computer is at the "welcome" screen as if it was just purchased at the store. It asks you to select your country, your languge, etc, and then it asks if you are restoring from a Time Machine backup or what exactly you'd like to do.
My problem is (and I know this sounds stupid) I don't know how to turn the computer off now that it's as this "beginning" stage. It doees ot have the usual selections at the top of the screen (like the Apple Menu, etc), so I'm not sure what to do. For now, I just closed the lid and I'm hoping that it worked and it's currenlty sleeping.
But I'd like to be able to shut the machine down so that I can ship it to the new buyer.
PS: I also have the new iLife that I'd like to put on it (it had it before I wiped the data), but I can't figure out how to do that either. The machine is not setup for a user yet, and I don't want to mess it up for the person who is buying it. Is there anything I can do that will allow me to install it?

I recently tried to wipe my HD and reinstall OSX Lion again to wipe my computer and start again. But now i am having difficulty installing Lion again as when i reset my MacBook Pro it comes up with the internet recovery and the option to reinstall OSX Lion.Once i click on that option it says its verifying the update with apple, then comes up with an error message saying an error occurred while preparing the installation please open application again. Or something along those lines this effectively leaves my computer unusable as i cannot do anything else with it.

Has anyone successfully installed WindowsXP within Parallels on their MBA? I created an ISO of the WindowsXP CD-ROM, put it on a flash drive, and tried to install it, but Parallels is telling me that the boots from the various drives failed. I've read all of the documentation on the Parallels website and it should be working to install using the ISO.

I just wanted to do a quick writeup of what I've learned from upgrading my 2006 White Macbook from a 60gb 5400 Seagate drive (came with it) to the 7200 RPM 320 GB Western Digital Scorpio Black.
First of all, there's some discussion of whether the new drive vibrates, and the answer is yes it does to some degree. The 5400 isn't even perceptible, but the Scorpio Black makes the entire machine feel more like a computer instead of just a paperweight. (if that makes sense) Finder seems to work a little quicker now and programs load faster. I think the 16MB cache helps a lot in this respect (vs. 8MB for most 5400 drives.)
My computer has Tiger and boot camp beta installed with a split drive between Windows and Mac. I realized that I could not really rescue the Windows partition using Tiger, but apparently this is possible with a program called winclone on a Leopard machine. So I'm going to put the old drive into an external usb case for when or if I need Windows down the road.
Here's what you need to do this:
1. An External USB drive bigger than your internal drive (or with more space than the stuff you want to keep). Mine is 160GB.
2. Tiny/Jeweler size Philips screwdriver
3. Size 8 Torx driver. This is smaller than most sets provide, so you will probably need to go to Sears or a good hardware store and pick up one of this size for about $4.
4. a coin
A. Connect the USB drive to your macbook. Open Disk Utility and make sure the drive is formatted GUID with OSX Filesystem (Journaled). If you have a Windows files system on your external drive, this WILL NOT WORK.
B. Download Carbon Copy Cloner. Start up the program and start a backup from your original hard drive over to the USB drive. You may get a couple of error messages, but they probably don't matter.
C. Reboot the computer and make sure you can boot into the USB drive. You do this by holding Option when the computer makes the startup sound.
D. If everything looks good on the USB drive, you can shut down the computer.
E. Remove the battery with the coin.
F. Take off the metal L-shaped thing that holds in the memory and the hard drive. You need to undo 3 little phillips screws.
G. Pull the white plastic strip to remove the hard drive. Need to be careful at this point to avoid any static discharges, so take at least one shoe off and make sure your foot is on the ground.
H. Use the size 8 Torx to remove the hard drive carriage. Replace the old drive with the new one. Put the old one into the static bag.
I. Put everything back together. Note: when replacing the L-bracket, you should use a small flat-head screwdriver to stuff the memory buffer material back into their slots. Start up the computer.
Should boot into OSX, but you may have to hold the option key to get it to boot up. I've had this problem, but I think I may not have used GUID to format the disk.
How would I go about this if I didn't want to do it myself? Could I get someone at the Apple store to do it for me? (if so how much would that set me back)
Also, I'm not too good with hardware and stuff like that, would it be easy to put a new and bigger HD in myself?
After the update, my MacBook Pro is extermely sluggish. Prior to the update, I was zipping along like most happy MacBook Pro owners. After the update, I constantly see the dreaded beach ball when doing almost anything with the laptop, Safari pages take longer to load, etc.
It's almost as if the udpate had the opposite effect and actually throttled down my WD 500GB HDD performance to a large degree.
Like I said, prior to the update all was good. I've been searching to see if there is a way to revert back to the previous firmware to validate that the update caused the problem but I haven't been successfull in finding anything yet.
During the installation of Windows 7 (7600), I got this error at 90% " Windows installation can not continue on this hardware " ?
