I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi well after i login on my mac i find my dock reset to the default apps...
Why does this happen. and how can i fix this?
I'm running the latest version of Leopard, and I would like to change the default login shell for the "root" user, but the command which works under Unix and Linux doesn't seem to work here. As root, I have done a vipw to change the shell to /bin/zsh (my preference) on the root line. This change persists in /etc/passwd, and it also gets properly propagated to /etc/master.passwd.
However, every time do an su or a sudo -s, I still get sent into the old /bin/sh shell. I have completely restarted the system, and this still occurs (the /bin/zsh entry is still there for root in /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd after reboot). /bin/zsh properly appears in /etc/shells, so I know that this is not the problem.
How do you alter the default option of Lion opening software apps at login?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook and a screen plugget to it. Now I use just the new screen and don't use the macbook one. But every time I turn the mac on the macbook screen turns on, and I have to decrease the brightness manually every time. (cause it's a waste of energy to keep it on if I don't use it). So I'd like to know to set the screen brightness to 0 by default, so I don't have to turn the brightness down every time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 Unibody Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I want to reset the default ambient brightness, because it stopped changing by itself after I manually changed the brightness with the keyboard. I made sure that ambient light changing was enabled in the System Preferences. From past experience, I think that deleting the preferences.plist file will do the trick, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of getting a MBP 13'', together with an external display. That way I get the portability of a MBP 13'' while maintaining an in-house big external display and 400$ in my wallet, only losing a bit of processor power (which is found negligible by most users).
My question has to do with resolution. MBP 13'''s resolution is 1280 by 800, right? My question is: if I buy a display with higher resolution, will I be able to enjoy that resolution? Or no matter how big my external display's resolution is, will I always be stuck with 1280*800?
I want to make the default font size larger on my screen. It's too small for comfortable reading.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dad is having issue with his MacBook Pro. So today he shut the MacBook down, but when he switched it on again it booted fine, right through the chime and Apple logo, but when it got to the login screen it switched off. The power adaptor was connected. He has been having problems with the battery, with it not holding a charge.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook(bought last year) just crashed and I had to turn it off by holding down the power button. Now after I turn it back on, it takes a really long time to load and when I get to the login, I can't type my password in the box. I can still move the pointer around, but can't click anything with the trackpad. I've also tried an external usb keyboard but that also doesn't work.

Bought a refurb from Apple and they don't send the install disk. Now can't get past the login screen. Thought I left the password blank but it won't let me get past the start up screen. Tried the install disk from my 15 inch mbp by holding C and starting up. but it only tells me I need to restart.

i recently had some repairs done to my mac and since i got it back, it goes back to the login screen after only 5 minutes of inactivity, i have changed the display and computer sleep options, and tried changing the user login options, all to no avail.
This problem is extremely frustrating, especially when i just want to play music while i clean the house or something.

I have a the 1st generation Macbook Pro. It has been working fine up until last night it would not load the login screen. It would show a checkerboard screen at the login view and other times it would show the login screen all streched out wit the checkerboard on top of it. I have tried fsck-ing, removing the PRAM. I then booted in Safe Mode (which worked fine) and attempted to repair disk permissions through Disk Utility and it seemed like there were a lot of errors in the Java part. I attempted to boot up the Mac OS Install disk (Snow Leopard) but the same checkerboard screen from the login popped up.
(This is the image of the login screen when attempting to boot up normally.)
I Have a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display. I tried to move files off the hard drive when I got a message warning me that the drive was almost full. I shut down, connected an external hard drive to move some files, but on reboot, the screen went blank (white) after typing in my login details.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just replaced the display panel in my MacBook Pro (A1260) and now it is behaving oddly at startup. The backlight lights up normally until the boot process gets to the Login screen, at that point the LEDs shut off. I can see the images on the display, (the LCD seems OK,) the only issue is that the LEDs are turning off.
Here's what I've tried:
1) If I boot in Target mode, the screen stays lit. (As expected.)
2) If I reset PRAM, the lamp behaves normally, staying on through that session. If I restart, the lamp-off- condition returns.
3) I have reset the SMC per instructions here, [URL]. No change, LEDs shut off.

I've been experiencing a problem with my 2007 MacBook Pro. At seemingly random intervals the computer freezes, the screen goes blue, and restarts at the login screen. It does NOT fully restart the computer, which is why I'm having difficulty finding a solution to this problem since most info online seems to deal with that issue.
I took it to the Genius Bar -- they reset the cache and system permissions -- but the problem remains unsolved. There's no new hardware of software I can think of..MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz running Mac OSX 10.6.8. Please let me know if I can provide more info.

I just received a 13inch MBP i7. I setup a user account during the installation. Everything worked good until I logged out. Now, when in the login screen after a reboot, the keyboard does not respond (can't enter my password).
I know it is not a hardware issue as I can type fine when logging into my Guest Account.
Here is what I tried to fix this:
- reset NVRAM
- Disk Repair
- Repair Permissions

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. There are a number of issues I have run across:If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing. When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. I have an 11"air running 10.9.3. I want it to stay on all the time until I switch it off. BUT it keeps 'going to sleep' reverting to the password login screen after a few hours unused.
I have unchecked the 'password after x hours' box in 'Security'
I have set the power/battery sliders to 'Never go to sleep'
I have 'Zap Pramed'
I have 'repaired disk permissions'
....Nothing has worked.
HOW to I stop my air from 'switching off' like this?
having problems with my MacBook Pro. Turns on, straight into user log in. Once password is entered it tries to start up then eventually after grey progress bar has finished brings up a grey screen, then shuts down again.
I've tried starting in safe mode and resetting PRAM etc with no success.

before I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

After what seemed to be an improper shutdown my Macbook will not boot. I have tried using fsck to no avail. Booting to the leopard dvd causes it to restart. Flashing PRAM doesnt seem to help and it will not boot into safe mode.
