I have an iMac and use a LaCie backup to, um, backup my files. I am confused over how to transfer my iTunes library from my backup into my MacBook Pro's iTunes library.

I've been a Mac user for about 2 years now. It's a great OS. I currently have a 2008 (quad-core) Mac Pro that I will be selling to a friend. I've been saving up some money and will be buying an iMac (with money from Mac Pro) and a Gaming PC with my saved money. My Mac Pro currently has three drives in it - a 230GB drive with the OS, Apps, Music, etc; a 500GB drive with Movies, Photos, etc; and another 500GB drive with Windows 7 and games.
I have all my Mac files backed up onto a 1.5TB external drive (of which I have less than 1TB filed). My question is about file transferring. Will I be able to transfer the files from my backup Mac Pro drive to the new iMac? It has a 1TB drive so space isn't a problem. I'm just kinda worried about how the files will be transferred since it was copied from two drives and is going to be copied back onto a single drive.
I using a LAcie mini HUB to backup my macmini, store photos on, to store my itunes library on, and my iphone and ipad backups. Basically my whole life is on there. Well, my macmini does not recogize it anymore. I tried connecting it to my MBP and that does not recognize it. THe lacie drive has light that glows when it is turned on, but it looks like it is pulsing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst, the drive kept triggering a "your external device may have been disconnected improperly" message. That despite repeated erasing of the disc and restarting of the set up a Time Machine backup usinig this 500GB USB2 drive with its own power supply. Finally, I placed the drive on its fronot panel and it stopped disconnecting. Then, it started the backup. It is now 9:30 in the morning. I started this backup at 9:30 last night. so far it has managed to accomplish 23.79 GB of a 64.45 GB back up.

I have used the disk for a number of years - all appeared to work fine - I am now backing up my data and only get Very slow transfer speed using firewire 800 - 2 hrs to transfer 1.36 Gb. Disk is connected to a Dual 1.8 Ghz Power PC G5 with firewire 800 - another d2 disk is connected to it with firewire 400 and I have just connected a Maxtor disk using firewire 400 to that. I have tried Updated the firmware (it did require it), tested the device alone on both 800 and 400 connections both slow. Restarted everything and used disk repair to check and repair the disks - repaired permissions on the startup disk.
Connected all the devices together again | LaCie 800 - LaCie 400 - and Maxtor 400. It sends data to all the other devices fast (~ 3 min for 1.6 Gb) through the LaCie 800 disk connection!, but does not send data to the LaCie 800 fast at all. Tested the other devices alone as well - they are all fast. Have also performed a TechTool Pro Ver 4 test on the the disk (Disk type ST325082 3A 232.89 Gb LaCie d2 External LUN0 revision 3.03) Passed the surface scan, disk controller and read write tests. Is the disk failing?

Time machine is having problems backing up to my La Cie drive. It will start and then show the progress, but it stalls at a very low #(256 kb, for example).
Left it to do its stuff overnight and it never budged. Pulled this off of the console (after reading some other posts). Not sure if this is associated w/the problem, though.

I erased and reformatted (mac os extended, journaled) the La Cie but that did not seem to work.
I have to send my iMac 27 back to apple for replacement (flickering screen issue) and I would like to erase my personal information. How do I do that on a Mac? I have a Lacie Drive connected via Firewire 800 and have been using Time Machine for backups. I also want to make sure that I have a complete backup as well. I am new to Mac OS X

I had just purchased a Lacie 500GB xternal drive for my G5, I also have another xternal drive hooked up which is a Western Digital. I copied everything , music video files ect... onto the Lacie drive to clean up the WD drive, now when I went to clean up the new Lacie drive the files I deleted are gone but it is not freeing up any space. I went to disk utilities and re-formatted but it wiped it clean, is there such a way to delete a few files here and there and gain the space they were taking up without going this route?

I have a hard drive enclosure, but I was wondering if when I install my 500GB hard drive, would I be able to use the enclosure to transfer files from my 250GB drive? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 1TB USB drive that when I connect it to my Macbook it is read only. I can see all the files but it will not allow me to move files to the drive or from the drive. When I go to "Get info" it show that it is read only with no option to change this except a check box for "share folders) and that seems to have no effect or does not solve my problem anyway.

I have a quick question that maybe you guys can help me with. I used to store all my music on an external drive, but now that I got a Mac I decided to just save them on the internal drive. When I select the External drive and Copy the files to transfer somewhere along the lines it gives me an error and pretty much the transfer Stalls(the transfer window stays open but nothing is being moved) and it wont close or nothing unless I restart. How do I transfer image files from a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.4) to an external USB hard drive? I do not see a way to create a new folder to put these images in first and I do not see an option to send them to the external drive when I right-click on the iphoto app they exist in now.

The problem is that I stored all my personal files on an external hard drive, which is of course formatted for windows. My mac will open it, but it is "read only." I tried plugging it back into my pc and using the Migration Assistant to transfer my files over, but it was not detected (rest of the pc was).
However, the second time I tried plugging it in to my pc, it told me it would need to be formatted first. Obviously my mac has changed something on it, and now all my personal files are on a hard drive that is unusable by either my old pc or my new mac!

I connected Lacie Backup Disk and used Time Machine to select the disk. But then a warning popped up telling me to eject the disk properly next time before disconnecting it, even though I never disconnected the device. Now time machine does not even recognize it.

I download the files from the Lacie external hard drive to the desktop and then upload to the seagate external...but I cant seem to drop it into the seagate hard drive. I am able to brings things from my seagate to the desktop but I need to upload the files from the Lacie to my seagate. Quicktime movies are on the Lacie and I need to get those movie clips to my seagate so I can use my PC to edit.

I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldn�t be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didn�t want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to �look for� every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I don�t know if I was able to make my question really clear�
I installed AirPort Extreme for my iMac to replace an old wireless router. Now my external LaCie 'Time Machine' backup drive doesn't show up in peripherals when I try to reinstall it. (It went away somehow) It only tries to lead me to the wireless Apple product.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI hooked it all up. MacBook sees the external drive. I get a Lacie set up icon on the desktop. Click it and I get password, do that and I get a bouncing arrow icon on the lower tool bar, then it goes away afte about two seconds...then nothing. This is for my MacBook Pro.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a MacBook Pro running the latest Leopard OS. I hooked up a Lacie external HD using FW 800 to backup a bootable system of my complete HD. I used Intego Personal Backup. All seemed to go well and the backup showed up on my startup screen in Preferences. Problem is it will not boot my sytem up. Tried twice and cleared my Lacie prior to backup. The Lacie also showed up as a startup disc when I did an Option startup. Never had such a problem with Tiger but I always used FW which the MacBook does not have. I am now trying Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup but it is not complete. Does the MacBook using Leopard have any special requirements for a backup such as a particular cable cable to use?
