What is your heat sink temp when the cpu is running hot, like 90+ degree C?
I recently performed the excess thermal compound removal procedure. Now I am worried that my cpu and heat sink are not in 100% contact, due to the very small amount of paste applied.
My heat sink sits at around 50C under normal load (cpu temp ~ 60). But at high load, cpu up at 90+ C, my heat sink is still at around 50-60C. Is this normal?
I Got a 13 inch MBP and gave my 13 inch aluminum MB to my dad. However i noticed something with the new MBP i got. A)After installing istat pro on both machines only the older MB shows as having Heatsink A and B, the new MBP shows as only having Heat sink B, how come? The aluminum MB on boot up has all the temps (CPU, Heat sinks, HD and so on) going around 20-30 degrees FH, yet the MBP is coming up with 90-130 degrees FH. After 1 hour use the MB has all reading between 28-48 yet the MBP has all readings between 90-140 degrees FH. Both kept in the same room, doing the exact same thing (running safari, same site). I just dont want the nightmare i had with the MBA where i had to return it 3 times because it would over heat and crawl when doing anything slightly intensive. Mine are:

I got my macbook pro core i7 yesterday. I found that the cpu temperature is 20C more than the cpu heatsink. is it a problem of my mbp? just curious to ask because it is just 2~6 degree Celsius varying in my mac mini.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, at my college, some departments own Mac Pros; one of them decided that they would like to fit the Mac Pro into a smaller space, so they cut ALL the handles off, which of course removed the heat sink, so the computer overheats. Long story short, the computer ended up in our tech trash, and I took it, DUH it's so beautiful (even without the handles). How can I make this computer usable? Would a water cooling system do it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAt my university there was a flood during christmas break while I was away, and my office had about 8 inches of water in it. When I got back, I saw the damages and was quite sad to see my mac pro filled up with dirt and debris.
So I cleaned it out and tried to boot it up and amazingly it works almost perfectly...in fact I am typing this on that mac pro. The only damage is that the fans now run at 2500rpms all the time.
So Here are my temps from iStat. It seems like maybe the sensor for CPU B and the north bridge are messed up. Anyone have any experience with fixing/replacing those parts? I am wondering if my diagnosis is correct and what is the best way to fix this machine.
My CPU heat sink fans always run above 2000 rpm. Is that avoidable?
Can I do something about that to drop the speed and get rid of the noise?
So mines at 142 degrees... that seems high to me but i am not really sure... i guess it is a heatsink it should be trapping heat

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using iStat and it says that my CPU runs at temps around high 70s, low 80 degrees Celsius for about 10-15 minutes at a time (also says the same for Airport card). It usually takes a while for it to cool down. I always place my laptop on flat surfaces. It does this even during light internet surfing minus flash or any other multimedia...now WITH multimedia use, it reaches the 80s no problem and I just quit the process cuz I don't want my laptop to explode one day.
I just wanted to know if this was average and what temps everyone else is usually running at?
I'm afraid that if it runs at these high of temps for a long time each time like that, then it may do some damage somewhere...
so i've got a system with a fried c2d board. i can pick up a cd board for $150 plus shipping which is good for me. to find a comparable replacement, i'm looking at ~350 and i'm just not feelin that price as im on a budget.
i'm not concerned about the speed decrease as im just trying to get this thing rebuilt.
i understand that there are different heatsink assemblys..vertical vs horizontal. however, i do not know how to tell the difference and i am also unsure whether or not my c2d heatsink will work on this board i receive.
the logicboard possess a t7300 c2d and model # is 820-2279-a, it appears.
i cant find anything on that model, except for on ebay.
and i totally cant find the serial number on this macbook. under the battery on the tray has no serial number listed, and i've read through this documentation [URL]
I downloaded a program to monitor my late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro's temperatures. Just a few minutes ago while playing music/playing an ONLINE game real briefly it warned me that my CPU temperature was too high. (167˚ F) Is that too high of a temperature? What should the "range" be?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBookPro5,4 2.53GHz with one fan and only the 9400M. After updating to 10.6.3 the operating temperature seems to have risen from about 43 degrees C to about 48. It has been getting warmer here in Japan so the ambient temperature is different but I still think this rise in temp. is due to the update. I have smcfancontrol installed and set to 2500rpm instead of the normal 2000, but it seems to be not enough to keep the temp. under control, as it did before the update. Any relatively hard use of the cpu and the temp goes up to 60 degrees.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just adding some Quicklook plugins when my temps started to soar. I have restarted, repaired permissions, removed said plugins, and tried other accounts. Nothing is lowering the temps. Weird thing is is Activity Monitor is showing NOTHING using the processor nearly enough to jump my temps to 85 C with nothing running.
I'm "controlling" the issue for now by ramping my fans to full speed. Even with this I am hovering around 70 C...a good 10-15 C above what I am normally at (and was at 30 minutes ago).
*Note: Normally running fans at 6000rpm would give me temps in the mid to low 40 C range
I just started using the aluminum MBP 15" and used to have 13 Macbook aluminum. and as far as i can tell the 13" did not get as hot as my 15" I just installed a fan and temp controller and even with running the fan higher then default os 10.6 temps reached 165 F I freaked out and cranked up the fan to 5000 RPM and temps dropped so far. So, How hot are these MBP supposed to get until it no longer safe?? And its not even close to being where the MBP is: sitting in my office on a desk where its cold and i have to drink tea to stay warm.

View 16 Replies View Relatedi think my macbook is running rather hot lately as I have the fan set at 6200(max) and it seems to idle at 50C and I had skype running with a few people and it was reaching 80C! It never used to get that high before! It is a Dec31st 06 (lol 1 day from 07) model and I do have the ability to open these models and apply the thermal paste again as I have done plenty times before and also fit Mac Pro serviceable options such as BT and AP
I know how to open it and clean it but theres no dust in it to make it that hot I might have to try max load and see if it overheats
Bought a macbook air recently and enjoy using it to listen to music and work while laying in the sunshine, only i have noticed it gets increadibly hot and when watching a movie cant quite play it smoothly as it seems to be affected by the heat. The aluminium obviously heats up easilyShould I avoid using it in the sunlight? Are there any addons i can get to keep it cool? Anyone know anything?Temperatures here in southern Spain now in the summer tend to be around 30?c (air temperature) but more in direct sunlight.
View 6 Replies View Relatedusing Ichat the other day running a full screen chat, and I saw the temp of the CPU rise to about 65C and the fans started spinning up 6200.... That was understandable as the CPU was under load... but after I closed the ichat down, the CPU temp dropped down to about 50C but the fans stayed at 6200 for a long period of time. probably about 10 minutes or so... then they slowly crepted down to 2500.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't see anyone else mentioning temps this high. My specs are below. I followed the directions in a post here in the forums and his directions did work, and I used the modified latest drivers from laptoptogo (258.96), and I was able to overclock the gpu on the windows side. I'm using Vista 32-bit (I know, but that's the only Windows OS I have). I didn't even OC it much, just 550 on the core and 1200 memory, and all was well. The framerate noticeably improved and I was able to play SC2 on mostly high settings (including shaders) with FPS ~ mid 30s and lowest mid 20s. I was a happy camper until I checked my temp via the Nvidia monitor, and noticed it went up to 92C at one point! At first, I thought this was because I was playing on 1080p on my HDTV, but I played again and it went to 88C on native screen.
A couple notes: I did not modify fan speed (allowing the native algorithm to run). I have a Core i5 15-inch MBP, 2.4GHz, high-res matte screen, 320 GB HDD, Vista 32-bit under bootcamp. Playing in native res. How come my temps are running so high? I know YMMV but I haven't even OC'ed it half of what people on this forum are doing successfully with stable temps in the 70s. Also, could it possibly be the fact that I'm using the latest drivers and maybe I need to use the older driver people are mentioning on this site? Is it possible I need to monitor my temps with another program other than the Nvidia one?
My Macbook Air 2012 is showing CPU temps of over 100 degrees celcius when encoding video/playing games. This seems like it's WAY too hot.. is it normal?

It will be made of wood, and the mac portion will be raised ~1" from the desk. The front and back will be open, and I'm also going to make slots for the optical drive as well as a hole in the left side for I/O. However I also want to make sure it doesn't get too hot. So basically I'm wondering if there is a central place where the heat essentially "exits?" I was thinking of putting a few holes into the board so that the heat could leave the stand that way...but any other ideas?
