MacBook Pro :: Fan Runs Constantly With Yosemite 10.10.1 Update
Dec 8, 2014
Have noticed this recently, mainly since the 10.10.1 update.
It's a 2.66 Intel C2D with 8 gigs of OWC RAM and a 240GB Crucial SSD
I work mainly from home and have it at my desk. It's hooked up to an Apple Cinema HD Display 23"
All updates done to software, permissions repaired, PRAM flashed, etc
Turned down the transparency, turned off some items in spotlight search, still no change

As the title says, my Macbook Air running freaking amazingly hot ever since the latest Mac Update. Any ideas, I can't find anything in the Activity monitor that could be causing my Macbook to be running so hot.

I've had my MacBook Pro for a little less than a year and it has 4gb of ram but i have never seem my computer have even 2gb of ram available. With Safari up and itunes it almost consumes all the ram, is this normal? I don't believe it should be. Do i have too much crap on my computer?

Black MacBook fan runs constantly. I found a thread here that looks helpful: [URL]. Following suggestions there I looked in Terminal at the top cpu processes for a rogue process that's overloading the cpu and keeping the fan running. What I see is a "COMMAND" called "DriverSPd" with a PID of 157* that often runs the cpu past 90%. Do you know what Driver SPd is? Can I kill it (without killing my MacBook?)

I've got an early 2008 Macbook Pro and, recently, I've noticed that the fan (fans?) begins running from the moment the computer is powered-up. iStat tells me that both fans are running at about 2000 rpms, though I only hear a slight whoosing noise from the left side. I don't remember the fan running constantly, and I have noticed that my battery life seems worse than normal recently. Is this normal, and something I just haven't noticed until recently?

I have one of the black macbooks with c2d, a GMA950 graphics card, and 2 gig of ram. When I run Windows XP in Fusion, the fan runs almost constantly - even without any windows applications running (antivirus is running). This bothers me.
It's getting time for me to consider a new laptop. Does anyone have any experience with the GeForce 9400M or 9600GT video card laptops? I'm wondering if my experience will be different with either video card.

I upgraded to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (non-retina). Now the system is incredibly slow.
1) wake-up form sleep takes up to a minute
2) Various icons will not open or respond until I have clicked on it three or four times and get the spinning beach ball (Finder, Calendar, iTunes)
3) Using Outlook for Mac app - similar issue as 2 when trying to send mail, add attachments or do anything
speeding the system back to Mountain Lion levels?

Anyone else notice that their CPU temperature rose a bit after the EFI update? I had no freezes whatsoever and it ran pretty cool throughout my usage pattern.
Now after the EFI update my CPU temperature is a bit higher at around 70C-77C with the fan staying mostly at around 2800RPM as to the 2200RPM before the EFI update. My CPU temperatures were at around 66C-70C before the EFI update.

Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite/iMac mid-2011...My iMac is really slow to start-up, to run, and to have applications run. I have 32 GB memory, 113 GB hard disk capacity and it has never been slower in its life. There is a process called "bird" that is running almost constantly whenever I run Activity Monitor and it is taking up to 140% of CPU time. What is "bird"? Why is it running constantly and eating up so much CPU time? Why is my iMac so slow running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite?
Other issues on my iMac include: Software Update is supposed to be updating and installing updates automatically and it is not. When I log in, I see a blank white screen with an apple logo and a progress bar below. It takes forever for the progress bar to get 1/4 of the way across, then the screen flashes and the progress bar finishes the remaining 3/4 really fast. And then once logged in, it takes forever for my dock icons to appear, and my iMac hard drive is chattering like crazy even though nothing is running yet. Whenever I launch Safari I get a progress bar in the address field that goes 1/3 of the way across and frequently hangs. All of these issues never happened before Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I started updating my MacBook Pro OS to Yosemite version after solving some issues. It all started correctly but when the progress bar reached the middle of it, it got stuck and it has been like that more than 10 hours.
The Mac is from 2010 and it has got 4 GB of RAM and the processing's unit clock is of 2.6 GHz

I made the update from OSX Mavericks to Yosemite. Was running fine until my computer ran out of battery. I plugged it in and try to turn it on, since then it stopped working.
Now, when I turn it on, the apple logo with the loading bar underneath appears, and halfway through the download, the computer shuts down on its own.

I bought "OS X Server" back in October of this year. It did not show up in updates on the App Store's update page but the OS X server claimed there was an update. I am running OS X 10.10.1 (Build 14B25) on an old mid-2008 iMac.
When I explicitly go to the "OS X Server" page of the App Store it shows an update as being available. When I try to update it says it will stop all OS X Server services and then hangs. Note: I am running Little Snitch but disable it for this update.
I have tried this multiple times with OS X Server opened and closed but after several weeks I still cannot update it. I would be willing to uninstall OS X Server and then try reinstalling it if I knew how. Dealing previously with Apple on an non-updating App Store APP was extremely frustrating and did not get the issue resolved. I DID not need OS X Server on my system and I am not using it to manage other computers on my home network.
