I have heard it's a known issue with older macbook pros. I've had a super drive since first buying the computer but never needed to burn a DVD. Now when I try to do it it won't work and ejects the disk and gives an error message. Other posts about this topic seem to have been deleted.

I have a 1.8 core duo macbook, which previously had a CD-RW drive that stopped reading audio CDs, so I had it replaced under my warranty at John Lewis. It was replaced with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 and I got it back yesterday, so I was pretty happy that I can now burn DVDs. Only problem is, I just found out that I can't burn CDs with this new drive!
Do you have to have an external drive to burn CDs with the MBA?
So far, I've avoided getting the superdrive by using the remote disk option, but I tend to burn CDs and data onto DVDs from time to time. Is there a work around for doing that without the superdrive or are there no other options?
My Macbook keeps saying 'The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-898 drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error.' everytime I try to burn a cd with data on it, it has only just started doing it after 2 years of use, how do I fix it?
why I get this message when trying to burn photos on to high quality discs."The burn to the SuperDrive drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry." I have just managed to burn some others photos perfectly fine.
I am running a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E drive. Recently I have been trying to burn some video_ts files ripped with MacTheRipper on to 8x Memorex DL DVD +R. I think the problem here is that my drive is only built to handle 4x speeds. I have tried decreasing the speeds in Toast this however has no effect and I still receive a drive error. I have also tried to transform the video_ts folder into multiple different types of disc images and burn them to the DL DVD from the disk utility function. The error I get from here is also a drive error
I have an iDVD project on an older macbook without a superdrive. The iDVD project is complete, but I can't burn the dvd. I also have a newer macbook with a superdrive. Is there a way to connect the 2 computers together so that I can use the super drive from the other computer to burn the iDVD project?
I have downloaded the Windows 7 x64 iso using the MSDN licence from my company. I have gone through the setup in fusion and have started the Windows installation but I get the following error message:
--Load Driver-- No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.
Can Windows not recognize I'm trying to install from an iso? Should I burn the iso and isntall from the cd drive?
I am looking to buy a new Mac mainly to have ability to burn home HD video to an internal/external BluRay drive. Do I have to but a Mac Pro or will the top fo the line new iMac do just as well? in my experience with my current Mac's rendering the video has taken the most time.
So All of a sudden my superdrive wont burn dvd's or cd's. It says open session, and then immediately says close session. I tried using the Toast software and it did the same thing. i think about replacing the drive?
I just finished a project in FCP. I exported it in QT format, and then created an iDVD project with it. Looks great. I've burend several DVD's, everything is fine. The movie file is 14.2 GB in size. Now, I need to drag the .mov file to a flash drive or SDHC card go I can give it to someone to play on their laptop. For some reason, I am getting a "File too large for volume's format" error no matter what I do. I have tried a 16GB USB flash drive, a 32GB SDHC card, and even a blank DVD. I ge the same error everytime. Is it a FAT32 limitation, or what am I missing here? How can I distribute this on flash media?Â

It is supposed to be the best burning package on mac. But I doubt it. I convert videos to dvd-video format using the absolutely brilliant windows7 application convertxtodvd. Please dont tell me to use a mac application instead of it. I tried it many times, there were always several problems(slow speed, subs etc). This is not the case here.
So, I want these dvd-videos in Video_ts format, to be burned in dvd disks using toast. It is supposed that video_ts folder are a standard folder, no matter the system you use. But toast has a different opinion. When I drag the folder in the dvd-video window, it asks to re-encode the video!!!If I try to burn this video_ts folder in windows machine using 'nero', no problem at all, straight burning! I really cannot understand why this happens.
Another problem I have is that the files I want toast to burn, usually reside to network computer. Is there any way to burn files from a network computer(win) using toast? Can toast access network or not? If not, I have to manually copy files to local disk, several minutes spent for copying gigabytes just to be able to burn them.
my clamshell iBook [URL]I am looking desperatley for a CD ISO that i can burn that will let me run disk utilities on my hardrive. if you have any software like this?
I think my superdrive died in my dual-core PM G5. This is what it's doing: I'll insert a DVD and it'll sit for a few seconds, then eject it. It DOES show up in my system profiler though. Is it dead, or is this a software problem? Oh- I should mention that the last thing I did was use Visual Hub to burn an AVI to a DVD. That worked fine. Afterward- nothing. I'm running OS 10.4.9. Help!
I need to know how to store multiple DVD movies onto one DVD.
I was told to download a free software called "Handbrake", but I cannot find the free download for the version that is compatible with my 10.5.8 Mac OS X. Â
Is there a way to import and burn the DVDs without downloading software? Â
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), I need to burn multiple dvds to one
Disks I put in the Superdrive, external hard drives, or anything in the USB or Firewire (thumbdrive, etc) -- nothing shows up on the desktop. All are visible in Disk Utility. USB thumbdrives and external hard drives are visible in the sidebar in Finder, but disks are not (only disk utility).
Because of this I can't burn a disk because the disk is not being recognized. In Disk Utility, the external hard drives appear mounted and can be opened in Finder, but why aren't they appearing on my desktop (they used to)?
My new DVD burner will play CDs and DVDs and burn CDs, but will not burn DVDs through the finder. Will getting TOAST definitely enable me to burn DVDs? I don't really need it otherwise and I would rather not buy it unless it will definitely enable me to burn DVDs.
I am trying to back up some DVD is I OWN.I used MTR to get the Video_TS folder on my HD.I have been trying to get Burn to create a disk that will work on my stand alone DVD player (which supposedly supports DVD -/+R and RW well as DivX).WHICH TYPE OF DISK DO I TELL BURN TO CREATE? I've been trying to burn on to dual layer disk i.e 8.5 GB.Video_TS foldeer is 7 GBIf I chose the DATA TAB tell Burn to create a "DVD-video disk" I get a disk that my computer can play in the DVD App that functions like a DVD, BUT my stand alone DVD player won't recognise it. (tells me its a DATA disk).
Have a free to distribute educational DVD (preparation for a test) that I need to make a copy of for a friend. Downloaded MacTheRipper and copy the DVD. Next I downloaded a freeware program called Burn that looks simple and is all I need. However I when I try to burn I get an error "Failed: There was a problem authoring the DVD" Also I tried to use the burn to a data DVD mode and it wrote the data to the DVD (you can physically see it's there) but when it got to finalize I got the same error message and you can't read the DVD contents. I have a new Mac Pro running 10.5.3 and the DVD drive is OEM PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D.
New to iMac, just trying to do something I could do on the PC without any trouble. Can't seem to get the burn folder to burn to a new CD-R. Can't seem to get the iMac to recogmize that there is a CD in the drive.
Have tried more than one CD. It does eject, but stalled out on the transfer.
I miss my PC. this has taken an hour for something that should be--well--easy.
I found that Macbook Pro cannot burn 95% from the DVD R DL 8.5 GB wth different types in the market. I have read from many sites and forums the same problems. In spite of the about this mac information on disk burning said it is able to write DVD R Double Layer (8.5GByte). Finally It is a big problem that Macbook pro cannot burn DVD Double Layer (8.5GByte) @ macbook pro 2.5 GHZ , 2 GB Ram , 250 GB HD
I have a Macbook Pro OSX 10.7.3 I dont know how to burn a DVD that is not a project. The DVD is already formatted. When I open iDVD it asked you questions about a project.

I suddenly can't burn cd on macbook pro. Says CD is locked. I tried again and noticed disk was unlocked upon insertion, but became locked as soon as I clicked "burn" button. I've tried different disks: anImation C and a Maxell DVD and a Memorex CD. All same result. I'm trying to burn pics and music on separate disks.
I have a USB SuperDrive for my MacBook Air and I am trying to burn a DVD that works in a DVD player. I have burned DVDs that play on the computer as a DVD but are unable to be read in a DVD player. I use iMovie to create the movie and then have tried burning the DVD through iTunes, Burn, iDVD, and Free DVD Creator. Do I need something like a DVD burner that plugs into my computer because I thought the SuperDrive would work. Do I need a specific program?
I recently bought a macbook pro. I can't burn a video DVD with it though because it doesn't have iDVD since Apple decided to take that away. Any suggestions on a program I should use instead?
