Do you have to have an external drive to burn CDs with the MBA?
So far, I've avoided getting the superdrive by using the remote disk option, but I tend to burn CDs and data onto DVDs from time to time. Is there a work around for doing that without the superdrive or are there no other options?
I have a Samsung External DVD Drive, will this work with the Air? I see no reason why it wouldn't.... I mean, it looks ugly but it's just as functional.

View 19 Replies View RelatedDisks I put in the Superdrive, external hard drives, or anything in the USB or Firewire (thumbdrive, etc) -- nothing shows up on the desktop. All are visible in Disk Utility. USB thumbdrives and external hard drives are visible in the sidebar in Finder, but disks are not (only disk utility).
Because of this I can't burn a disk because the disk is not being recognized. In Disk Utility, the external hard drives appear mounted and can be opened in Finder, but why aren't they appearing on my desktop (they used to)?
I've got a Refurbished 2009 27' model. Looking for a snazzy external hard drive for time machine.
Since my iMac has Firewire 800, that's the best route. It's also 2 TB's so that's the storage I'm looking for.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive, but it seems to be either corrupt or malfunctioning in some other way. When I plug it in it works fine for a while, but soon after I get a "Disk was not properly ejected" error.
If I try to unplug and plug the disk in again, Finder won't recognise it until I've rebooted my computer.
I can't be bothered rebooting all the time, so is there a process I could kill instead that would relaunch itself and start off "fresh"?
finder application stopped finding certain types of files on an external drive. The external drive (WD 80GB) is recognised and I have access to all files, however, when I search for specific files in the finder window it wont find pdf, txt, doc files. It does find picture files such as jpg. I have tried using the drive on my laptop (snow leopard) and macmini (leopard)

Is there any time of performance decrease in reading/writing onto the drive if its formated as NFTS and then use NTFS-3G on my Mac? Compared to HFS+ which is Mac's native partition.

Now when I try to do it it won't work and ejects the disk and gives an error message. Other posts about this topic seem to have been deleted.

I have a 1.8 core duo macbook, which previously had a CD-RW drive that stopped reading audio CDs, so I had it replaced under my warranty at John Lewis. It was replaced with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 and I got it back yesterday, so I was pretty happy that I can now burn DVDs. Only problem is, I just found out that I can't burn CDs with this new drive!

I am running a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E drive. Recently I have been trying to burn some video_ts files ripped with MacTheRipper on to 8x Memorex DL DVD +R. I think the problem here is that my drive is only built to handle 4x speeds. I have tried decreasing the speeds in Toast this however has no effect and I still receive a drive error. I have also tried to transform the video_ts folder into multiple different types of disc images and burn them to the DL DVD from the disk utility function. The error I get from here is also a drive error

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two early 2008 Mac Pro 8-core computers, both running Leopard 10.5.8. The backup computer has a system hard drive that is an exact clone of the primary computer. They both burn data or video dvds fine using their internal drives. I just got an external USB Samsung bluray burner. It burns dvds and blurays (data or video) fine on the backup computer using Toast 10, or the finder burn function for dvds). But the external usb Samsung will not burn either dvds or blurays (neither date or video) on my primary computer. With blurays it just stops, and with dvds it gives some sort of error message. Since both computers have exact same system drives.Â

I am desperately trying to burn a ISO file to a USB and external HD but Disk Utility does not want to. Instead I get the error message "Could not validate source - error 254". So there must be a problem with the source which is the ISO file.
I already tried setting the Partition Map Scheme to both Master Boot Record and GUID Partition Table. I also formatted the drive to FAT and HFS+. I cannot find the cause of this error. It clearly looks like Disk Utility does not like burning ISOs to USBs or HDs.
However, I really really need to this since I cannot burn ISOs with my SuperDrive which is also a common problem [URL]with my MacBook Pro.

Also what is everyone's thoughts regarding the WD Scorpio Blue 1TB? View 8 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the Windows 7 x64 iso using the MSDN licence from my company. I have gone through the setup in fusion and have started the Windows installation but I get the following error message:

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.
Can Windows not recognize I'm trying to install from an iso? Should I burn the iso and isntall from the cd drive?
I am looking to buy a new Mac mainly to have ability to burn home HD video to an internal/external BluRay drive. Do I have to but a Mac Pro or will the top fo the line new iMac do just as well? in my experience with my current Mac's rendering the video has taken the most time.
