MacBook Pro :: How To Use Speakers/headphones Together?
May 1, 2010I'm having some trouble having my speakers and headphones working together.
In my prior setup, I've always had my Macbook Pro Line-Out connected to a set of speakers who allowed for my headphones to be jacked into it.
I had no problems with this setup as it allowed me to use either one.
Now, I bought a new Logitech G35 headset which has a USB end as opposed to the 1/8" jack, and I have to switch between the speakers and headset via Settings > Sound > Output.
MacBook Pro :: Battery Consumption - Amperage Drain?
Nov 21, 2010Getting fustrated with my Macbook Pro 15''. Could never get battery to last more than 5-6 hours. This is the MAX i can achieve, with great pains to enhance battery life.
Argh, what's wrong with my Macbook Pro?
Check out the amperage drain. At this rate the Macbook Pro wouldn't last more than 5 hours. This is with half brightness, only finder and Chrome open, and the battery recently calibrated.
The amperage drain increases to -1400+ when i have more tabs open, and a few other apps.
However there was this ONE RARE OCCASION, where my Macbook Pro would only drain between -700 to -800 amperage. This was in normal usage and the battery easily lasted closer to 8 hours. But somehow, i can never replicate this anymore!

Sep 9, 2009I have a unibody macbook pro 15 inch, 2.8 Ghz, 4gb ram, 500Gb HDD. There are various display settings like 1440x900, 1344x840, 1280x800, 1024x768 and so on till 640x480 (descending order). Will the battery consumption vary at different display settings? If so, how much of a difference will it make?

Mar 11, 2010So I have a late 2008 MBP and the battery is draining way faster than it should. Coconut battery says that my battery capacity is at 93% and it only has 73 cycles but the battery has only been lasting 3 hours at best with a full charge, but most typically, it only lasts 2 hours while using the 9400m GPU and at idle. I have reset the battery per apple's instructions 2 times now and I have reset the SMC multiple times. this is what the system profiler says about my power capacity and consumption:

Jul 12, 2008I have a problem with the headphone jack of my macbook. When i plug in some headphones or external speakers, it wont get sound to them, just like the headphone jack isn't there and the sound come out from the macbook speakers. The only ones that seem to work are the ipod original ones, but not if insert them completely, they need to be strategically plug in, like half in and half out, and if i move it a bit more the sound goes back to the speakers again. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it? I can't use the warranty, because the warranty time already passed.

The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.

Apr 1, 2008It's been a bad evening. A friend accidentally tripped over a 1/8th to RCA cable we were running from the MB to the TV. Friend and TV are fine, but the MB no longer switches from "internal speakers" to "headphones" when I plug in a pair of headphones, the 1/8th cable, etc. It stays on speaker mode even when the plug is fully inserted.
I've experimented with a toothpick, and have engaged and disengaged the digital out, but that's not the issue. If I bend a fully inserted headphone plug hard towards the front of the MB (i.e., toward the USB ports), I get full stereo sound, which indicates the jack is still partly working; however, under all other circumstances, sound comes through the speakers, which suggests the MB isn't receiving the "switch" signal properly from the jack.
I've been googling for the last few hours, and it looks like Macbook Wind users have found ways to alter the AppleHda.kext file to allow them to manually toggle between internal speakers and headphones, which means there has to be a way to do this on the native Macbook. Unfortunately, no one seems to have this specific problem (or at least, I haven't found anyone with this issue since I started searching)

Sep 12, 2009I'm in to buy a second hand Macbook unibody - the one that didn't exist for very long, until it was slightly upgraded and rebranded as Macbook Pro. 13,3".
Differences I've found so far add up to these:
45 watt changeable vs 60 watt built-in battery
2.0 Mhz vs 2.26 Mhz
- vs Firewire 800 and SD card slot
One question would be - how much does the battery time differ between 45 and 60 watt?
Then I heard that the screen might have been updated too, something that for me makes more value than all the above. A quote comparing the white Macbook ("WhiteBook") with the unibody Macbook pro: "While both machines have 13.3-inch glossy displays, the unibody has also been upgraded to a higher-quality screen from AU Optronics with 60 percent greater color gamut, another advantage over the WhiteBook."
Does the unibody Macbook have the same screen as the white macbook, or does it have the same as the unibody Macbook pro - or something in-between? Does someone know of a comparison between the two?
I'll do a lot of graphics - picture editing - so it's important for me.
IMac :: Headphones Not Showing In System Preferences / Only Showing Internal Speakers

ITunes :: Airplay Can't Connect To Remote Speakers Or Multiple Speakers When Speakers Are Visible In It
Apr 22, 2012I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes. The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility. You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

MacBook Pro :: High Ram Usage - What Is Consumption
Jul 23, 2010I've noticed that my macbook pro has been using a lot of RAM. I haven't really witnessed a slowdown on my computer b/c of any sort of shortage of RAM but I was just curious if this was typical (since this is my first mac). I have 4 GB of RAM and I often find myself with around 1-1.5 GB of free + inactive RAM. I had a linux system with 3 GB RAM before and it used between 1-1.8 GB of RAM and it seems like this system is using around 2.5-3 GB (active + wired). However, various OS X laptops in the past have functioned really well in the past with 2 GB and even 1 GB of RAM right? Is OS X just putting more processes in my RAM to speed up my system because more RAM is available OR does snow leopard just have high memory consumption?
