results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.

I decided to attempt the same thing on a mac.
I managed to successfully hide the file:

How do you hide file extensions (for all types of files) in Snow Leopard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo in windows I can create a file list, save it to a text file, and create a .bat file with rename commands for each file. for example:
Rename 000055-060409232023-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000055.jpg
Rename 000056-060409232020-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000056.jpg
Rename 000057-060409232016-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000057.jpg
Rename 000058-060409232012-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000058.jpg
Rename 000059-060409232008-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000059.jpg
Rename 000060-060409232004-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000060.jpg
Rename 000061-060409232001-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000061.jpg

Rename 000063-060409231953-CAM1.jpg cal000image0000063.jpg
how do I create a file list and then create a way to batch rename in os x? I know the commands, but I don't know of a way to do it on more than one file at a time. I have found a few renaming apps but they all appear to be focused on just iterating up instead of renaming specific files to a new name.
I recently upgraded my PowerMac G4 to Leopard. It is the Graphite Model, except with a 1.4 GHz processor upgrade and 1.38 GB of RAM. In Tiger, I could use coverflow just fine in iTunes. Even fairly fast. Leopard is letting me use coverflow in Finder, but not iTunes.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'd like to print the file names that are on an external backup so I know what is there. I've opened Finder and the relevant directory, but can't figure out how to print the pane (or file list).
I have Tiger 10.4.10 on a G4 powerbook.
I don't know when this started happening, but all of a sudden in coverflow all the images display as their file type icon, not the preview of the image, which defeats the purpose of coverflow. Anyone know how this happened and how to switch it back?
Incidentally, all the icons show for Xee, the image browsing app, which I'm using only because Preview is being a jerk and constantly displaying itself in my secondary monitor, which I keep off most of the time (it's a wacom cintiq, and it's distracting to have turned on when not in use). If I can somehow fix this all by fixing preview and getting rid of Xee, I certainly would.
I use a text edit file as a to-do list; however, it doesn't play nice. When I click on its icon, it pops up somewhere other than where I want it. I've tried "Preferences" and TextEdit help on and off line. I can't find any info on it. I'm probably not using the exact words that 'help' would recognize. I've tried saying "Simon Says" too, but that doesn't work either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy external hard drive suddenly broke on me - the dreaded click of death - and now i am trying to gather as much information as possible about what i had on the drive. I have a slight idea, but i can't really remember everything. So basically what i am wondering, does Mac os x (SL in my case) store some kind of log file (text or similar) with information about what has been moved to external hard drives the past, say, 12 months?

I'm running Aperture 3.4.5 on a MacPro mid 2010. I import by reference into the appropriate project. The project's file directory is the same as the name of the project. I.E., screen shots from the Next Issue application are kept in a project called "Next Issue". The project keeps it's photos in a directory called "Next Issue". Â
As needs change files may be moved from one project to another. This causes a major problem as the files remain in their original location, i.e. are not moved to the directory associated with their new project. For example, the Next Issue screen shots show up in Photostream. I move the photos to the "Next Issue" project, but the original file still stays in the photo stream folder on disk.Â
The reason this matters is the disk with the pictures is duplicated and then connected to an Oppo media center. I find files I need on the Oppo by going to the directory associated with the files, i.e. "Next Issue". Since those files originally were in a photo stream directory they still reside there. So unless I can remember thousands of file locations it can't be found on the Oppo, which doesn't have a search function for an externally attached drive.Â
I suppose that I could go to each directory, select everything, and do a relocate master. But after a long night of organizing if I don't remember which projects where changed then that means relocating up to 100 directories and 70,000 files ….

To set any of these, go to terminal and enter in the code for whichever preference you want to set. Remember, to reset the setting to its default value, just change the "1" at the end to a "0" (or vice versa). Enable "X-Raying" Folders with QuickLook This one is pretty cool. It lets you show the contents of folders when QuickLooking them.
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Finder QLEnableXRayFolders 1

View 4 Replies View RelatedDock hiding just doesn't work any more. Specifically, the dock WILL hide, but it won't return when I need it to. You can move the cursor to the bottom of the screen (where my dock presently is), and nothing happens. This has happened before, but now it happens consistently. It's awfully frustrating. A couple of times today, hiding wouldn't turn on, either (that is, the dock just wouldn't hide at all), but that's sortof a moot point, since if it HAD hidden, it wouldn't have reappeared.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Skype and noticed that it starts up when I log into my Mac. Fair enough: for the time being I don't want this, so I entered the Accounts control panel, then Login items where I ticked the "Hide" box next to where Skype was listed. But Skype still starts up when I log into/power up my Mac. What gives? I thought "hide" meant the same thing as "disable" during login, but apparently not. I know I can remove Skype from the Login items list, but since I sometimes want it to automatically start when I power up my Mac that would be a bit cumbersome.
I'm using MacOS 10.4.11
I have the "hide" box checked under my login items, but when I log in, the iTunes window will appear momentarily, then disappear, then reappear 1 second later. And once it reappears, it stays there. I have to manually hide it, which is no big deal, but defeats the purpose of the "hide" checkbox. I've added it/removed it and logged out/restarted several times, but it doesn't work. I'm running iTunes 9.0.1/ OS X 10.5.8.
