View 5 RepliesI want to use my new macbook (2.4ghz 2g ram 250 hdd) as my default DVD player in my room, but I am not sure what cable I could use from the mini display port to my old piece of crap TV. My TV has s video and the red white and yellow inputs. Also, is there a difference between mini DVI and mini display port? I would like the cable to be relatively long, too.

So it must be my computer. My new printer is only wireless and didn't come with a USB cord. It is hooked up to my wireless network and I downloaded the software to my computer, but my computer will not recognize it at all.

i'm trying to connect both audio and video from my macbook (C2D, black) to an old tube television, and i've determined i need the apple mini dvi to video adapter:
however, the TV is indeed old and it only has the following two inputs on the front of it, with nothing in the back:
i have no idea what inputs those are. does anyone know what cable(s) would i need to buy to connect to the apple mini dvi to video adapter?
I upgraded the HD of my MB (late 2008) to 640GB. I currently have 2 Partitions, System and Data. The only reason why I did this is because I have 2 250GB external HD and I always want to have I cloned copy of my System and Data Partitions. Now, Im planning to get a 1.5T external HD drive, is it a good idea to just have a single partition on my MB and clone it on the one of the partitions on 1.5T HD? will it slow down my system?btw, I am running SL 10.6.4 with 4G of RAM if this is a factor.

I was wondering if there is a way for me to have both my guitar (that's hooked up to the input on the side of my macbook) and the built in mic to be on at the same time? On garageband, would it be possible for me to sing and play at the same time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a way to tell which base station I am connecting to my network through. my setup is one timecapsule which is creating the network and it is extended by another airport express through ethernet. The network is 5ghz N only if that makes any difference. I was wondering if there is an application or some other way (terminal??) of finding out which one my computer is connecting to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of audio recording software, some of which is transferred over from my old PowerBook G4 running Tiger, not all of which is absolutely known to work with Snow Leopard (which I have on my brand new iMac). The rest is known to work with SL, but for some reason isn't recognizing the audio inputs and in some cases, ends up crashing whenever I try to do anything. My theory is that there may be some sort of conflict with older versions or preferences that transferred over when I used Migration Assistant to set up the new computer last week.
I've gone through the system and user libraries and tried to remove all of the preferences files and other things that would have been referenced by older versions of the software, in an attempt to fix this issue, but I've had no luck yet. I'm wondering if a clean reinstall of SL may be the solution, skipping Migration Assistant and then just copying my important preference files manually? If that's the case, how would I go about doing the reinstall? I've never done it before.
I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive - less than $250). I've got a new Samsung P2350 - which is nice - but it only has one DVI input and one VGA input. This was all I figured I needed when I picked it up. I've got an XP machine connected via DVI (using long DVI cable because the PC is in a closet on the other side of the room). My new mac mini is connected via Apples mini-display-port to vga adapter & std 4-5 ft VGA cable.
My issue is that the Mini's VGA image is not nearly as clear as it is when I connect via DVI. As a result, I'd like to be able to connect both systems to the same monitor via DVI. As another possible option (and much cheaper solution). Is it possible that the DVI to VGA adapter Apple sells would yield a better picture than the min-disp to VGA adapter that I'm currently using?
I have a mini mac, I cannot get the built in audio mic or line in mic to work. Sys preference only shows line in... Audio line-in port
but the applications only show the built-in input is available but that does not work either..

Two days ago my iBook G4 1Ghz started to have a big problem in turning it on: when I pushed the power button the fan started to whirl speedier than usual and nothing happened. The monitor stayed turned off and the startup "Boeing" did not sound. I tried to reset the PMU and the PRAM several times and the iBook finally turned on (I still don't know why!). I did a hardware test and no problems were detected.
Then, I connected my connection Ethernet cable and the computer crashed down. Now I am in the same situation that I've just described: I can't turn the computer on anymore and the fan starts wheeling. I also showed this problem to a local Apple center and they told me that the motherboard is dead. I am still not convinced, because one time I have been able to restart the iBook. Is the motherboard really broken?
I have three Macs and one PC. The WDTV has no problems accessing the Mac and PC that does not have Vuze installed. However, it can not access my Macbook Pro where Vuze is installed. I've talked to support teams at both Western Digital and Apple, and they said that everything was correct set-up at my end.
I'm suspecting that Vuze because:
Vuze clearly has affected how the Macbook Pro broadcast itself on my network. The PC, with Windows 7, sees the Macbook Pro as "Vuze on Vuze", not as "MacBook Pro", which is the name I have given the computer. The Macs sees it correctly as "Macbook Pro". Also, the WDTV sees the Macbook Pro as "VUZE", but when I try to connect, it says "The Media Server can not be accessed". I'm using the "Network Shares" feature on the WDTV and not the "Media Server" feature. I have also turned off the "UPnP" plugin under Media Servers in Vuze Preferences, but it didn't make a difference. Also, my Macbook Pro has three partitions with 10.6.2 installed. On the only partition that does not have Vuze installed, the WDTV can access it. So clearly something is up with Vuze.
This just started happening today. I have little snitch monitoring the network activity and it's generally quite calm, however now it's going crazy with incoming connections from other students (I'm on a university campus) and iphones of all sorts.

so the other day i opened my computer and it wouldn't connect to the internet. it had been working fine before that and nothing had changed, it just stopped connecting. I have full signal and can connect to the network, but my internet signal on the top bar has an exclamation point and says "Alert: no internet connection." My roommates can both connect with their computers so i dont know the problem! i've looked for solutions on other forums and havet tried deleting "airport" as a source and then re-adding it, deleting the system configuration folder, renewing the DHCP lease, nothing works.

I have a MacBook Pro. I see that the new iMacs have a mini displayport input so that the 27" screen can be used with my MacBook Pro. I'm wondering how this works? Since there is obviously no button to push, how exactly do you switch between the iMac and the MacBook Pro displaying on-screen?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working to get a document camera plugged into my computer, and I just got it working via a Canopus box. The Canopus box takes the s-video and sends the signal through firewire to my Mac. But the image is upside down. Flipping the camera around would be very inconvenient... is there any program I can get that will allow me to invert the video signal? Also, what's the best way to display a video signal on the screen? I'm using screen capture software so I want the video image on the screen while I'm recording. So far I have only figured out iChat --> Video Preview. It seems to me there should be something more handy... with maybe a few zoom buttons, reflect image, that sort of thing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro laptop recently died and I am trying to access its time machine backup data through Finder on a different computer. In each one of my folders from different dates, however, the majority of the computer folders I would like to access (i.e. desktop, documents, dropbox, etc) have a little red "no" sign in the corner and prompt the following message when selected:
"The folder “FolderName” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents"
How can I gain permission to see its contents? As the former user, I know whatever passwords are restricting these files, but I don't know how/where to go to give permission to these folders. I've tried going into Disk Utility and changing the permissions there, but to no avail, despite successful changing of the "Sharing & Permissions" to "Read & Write" for all listed accounts.
I'm currently trying to view this on an imac OSX 10.6.8. The dead MacBook pro ran OSX

I've previously installed OSX on my MBA using an external DVD, using a wifi remote disc option, but because of my current network situation (and current lack of external disc drive) I'm wondering if it would be possible to install OSX on the Air through a direct ethernet connection to another Mac.
Basically it would go like this: MBP <> ethernet cable <> USB ethernet adaptor <> MBA
Possible? Any problems? Any special procedures I need?
I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure.

I have a MacBookPro that I use in my room connected through ethernet. I am at university and they have only allow one machine to connect to their wi-fi that is available across campus, through mac address filtering. I also have an iPhone which I would love to use wi-fi on, at least while I am in my room lounging around and such. Anyway, the point being, can I use my MBP (connected through LAN) to act as a router so that my iPhone can connect to it? Essentially create a wireless network, so iPhone would find it and I could go online on it via wi-fi?
I tried going on Airport and clicking on "Create a network" (w/o a password), but I get an error saying "There was an error creating our Computer-to-Computer network." It doesn't say much else -- is there a better way of doing this?

Then all I need is a VGA cable and I should be able to use my tv as a monitor, right? The only thing I dont understand is...what does "female" mean? Instead of just "to VGA" it says "to VGA female"....will that be a problem?
An apple consultant at Best Buy sold me the mini display port to VGA adapter, VGA display cable, and stereo audio cable. When all set up, the volume comes through the TV very very low and the only picture I get is the purple light in outerspace MacBook picture, not the movie playing on my macbook.
