OS X :: Recording Software Not Recognizing Inputs
Dec 14, 2009
I have a bunch of audio recording software, some of which is transferred over from my old PowerBook G4 running Tiger, not all of which is absolutely known to work with Snow Leopard (which I have on my brand new iMac). The rest is known to work with SL, but for some reason isn't recognizing the audio inputs and in some cases, ends up crashing whenever I try to do anything. My theory is that there may be some sort of conflict with older versions or preferences that transferred over when I used Migration Assistant to set up the new computer last week.
I've gone through the system and user libraries and tried to remove all of the preferences files and other things that would have been referenced by older versions of the software, in an attempt to fix this issue, but I've had no luck yet. I'm wondering if a clean reinstall of SL may be the solution, skipping Migration Assistant and then just copying my important preference files manually? If that's the case, how would I go about doing the reinstall? I've never done it before.

I was wondering if there is a way for me to have both my guitar (that's hooked up to the input on the side of my macbook) and the built in mic to be on at the same time? On garageband, would it be possible for me to sing and play at the same time?

If I had a Macbook pro, how would I connect it to a CRT TV with RCA inputs and S video? To watch movies off of the laptop.

i'm trying to connect both audio and video from my macbook (C2D, black) to an old tube television, and i've determined i need the apple mini dvi to video adapter:
however, the TV is indeed old and it only has the following two inputs on the front of it, with nothing in the back:
i have no idea what inputs those are. does anyone know what cable(s) would i need to buy to connect to the apple mini dvi to video adapter?

I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive - less than $250). I've got a new Samsung P2350 - which is nice - but it only has one DVI input and one VGA input. This was all I figured I needed when I picked it up. I've got an XP machine connected via DVI (using long DVI cable because the PC is in a closet on the other side of the room). My new mac mini is connected via Apples mini-display-port to vga adapter & std 4-5 ft VGA cable.
My issue is that the Mini's VGA image is not nearly as clear as it is when I connect via DVI. As a result, I'd like to be able to connect both systems to the same monitor via DVI. As another possible option (and much cheaper solution). Is it possible that the DVI to VGA adapter Apple sells would yield a better picture than the min-disp to VGA adapter that I'm currently using?

I have a mini mac, I cannot get the built in audio mic or line in mic to work. Sys preference only shows line in... Audio line-in port
but the applications only show the built-in input is available but that does not work either..

I upgraded the HD of my MB (late 2008) to 640GB. I currently have 2 Partitions, System and Data. The only reason why I did this is because I have 2 250GB external HD and I always want to have I cloned copy of my System and Data Partitions. Now, Im planning to get a 1.5T external HD drive, is it a good idea to just have a single partition on my MB and clone it on the one of the partitions on 1.5T HD? will it slow down my system?btw, I am running SL 10.6.4 with 4G of RAM if this is a factor.

I want to use my new macbook (2.4ghz 2g ram 250 hdd) as my default DVD player in my room, but I am not sure what cable I could use from the mini display port to my old piece of crap TV. My TV has s video and the red white and yellow inputs. Also, is there a difference between mini DVI and mini display port? I would like the cable to be relatively long, too.

I have a MacBook Pro. I see that the new iMacs have a mini displayport input so that the 27" screen can be used with my MacBook Pro. I'm wondering how this works? Since there is obviously no button to push, how exactly do you switch between the iMac and the MacBook Pro displaying on-screen?

I've been working to get a document camera plugged into my computer, and I just got it working via a Canopus box. The Canopus box takes the s-video and sends the signal through firewire to my Mac. But the image is upside down. Flipping the camera around would be very inconvenient... is there any program I can get that will allow me to invert the video signal? Also, what's the best way to display a video signal on the screen? I'm using screen capture software so I want the video image on the screen while I'm recording. So far I have only figured out iChat --> Video Preview. It seems to me there should be something more handy... with maybe a few zoom buttons, reflect image, that sort of thing.

I want to record and edit my Xbox 360 gameplay, the item I want to buy says it uses USB 3. My macbook pro has an expresscard port do they make adapters for the expresscard that are compatible with macs? Also [URL] that is what I want to use to record my gameplay since I use Component HD. My question about the recorder is can I record and play at the same time on my tv or is there a way I can split the signal from my xbox? Sorry If this doesnt make sense I rushed this!

I am learning a new song on the piano and it is played, at the lowest, 3 octaves down from middle C. The problem is my keyboard only has 64 keys and only reaches to the second octave down.
I am using a MIDI connection and I want to be able to have GarageBand transpose the keyboard while I am playing. So, say I play the song up on middle C but it would sound like it was down 3 octaves.
I can't find a way to do this while recording. You can transpose after you record, that is not a problem, but it would nice to hear it the right way while I play it. Any suggestions?
I have searched all through GarageBand can't find a way. Might be another suggestion I send to apple as feedback soon.

I am having trouble with the sound of CDs recorded in iTunes. They sound kind of like they're in a tunnel. What are the best settings to have iTunes on when recording and also importing songs. Some songs have been purchased through iTunes while others were directly imported from CDs that I currently have. I just don't seem to be able to find a great way to record these.

I'm sure I'm in the wrong forum, I have a very sentimental voicemail from my nephew that will be erased tonight at midnight. I need to know if there is an easy way to record the voicemail on to the computer using the microphone or a relatively easy way to download it. I do not have an iPhone. I have a plain old Samsung.

I live in Greece, and I REALLY want to see the Fins/Jets game tonight, but the problem is, the game starts at 330am local time. My question is, is there any way that I can record a stream online? Would i be able to record it using the new Quicktime screen record feature, and if I can, would it also play the sound? If not, does anyone else have any other ideas?

I tried to record some audio (voice) with garageband earlier this day and it didn't work! I have a built in microphone that is working fine, it tested it (mac OS X, version 10.5.8) and my input volume level is turned up (system preferences). I tried to record with isight (imovie) and can record a video, but no sound eighter. I've been able to record in the past with garageband so i haven't a single clue what happened.

I have a couple questions regarding GarageBand 08 and recording with it.
1) Is it possible to connect a vocal mic to GarageBand, put an effect on that, and have a live output of the signal coming from the mic with the effect on it without having to record the audio first?
2) I have a Yamaha keyboard that has a MIDI and 1/4" jack output on. I am interested in connecting the keyboard to my Mac for use in recording. Would it be possible to run the audio signal from the 1/4" jack to the 1/8" jack on my Mac and record the audio in GarageBand and be able to apply effects to that track (i.e. synthesizers)?

First off, I want to record Xbox 360 gameplay to my Mac. I have an Xbox 360 Slim and a computer monitor.
I connect my Xbox to my monitor using HDMI because HDMI and VGA are the ONLY 2 ports in my monitor. I connect the optical audio from my Xbox to my Turtle Beach X41 headphones. My Turtle Beach headphone receiver has an optical in and optical out. I have the optical in connected to my Xbox and when I'm playing with friends I connect the optical out to a surround sound speaker system in my room.
The big problem here is that I want to record high definition gameplay with a Hauppauge HD PVR to my MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel C2D with 4GB of RAM). I also want to use a video amplifier splitter so I can get even better quality video.
