View 2 RepliesMy macbook pro is connected to the internet via WiFi router, and it very often it happens that my macbook loses connectivity with it. WiFi logo shows the same signal strength, but all browsers (Safari & Chrome) can't load webpages.
This issue can be solved by turning WiFi on and off, but it happens again and again. It looks like connectivity loses when Macbook goes in sleep mode and get's back from it, but sometimes connectivity issues happen even without sleep mode switching. I found in the internet that this issue can be solved by turning off Bluetooth.
There's something wrong with the Wifi connectivity on my Macbook Pro. Every few minutes, I lose connection to the internet even though it says I'm still connected to my network. I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on for it to start working again. It only works for a few minutes and sometimes hours, but then I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on agian. It only happens on my MacBook.

It takes about 2 minutes to have network connectivity after my system starts up. Is this normal for a macpro? I don't have that problem on my macbook pro.
I have the early 2008 release MP. get the network connectivity to start as soon as desktop is displayed like my macbook pro?
So what's the deal with airport and wifi signal in the new macbook pro? It's my first mac and I've been working hard to pay it. Yes, PAY it. And now, my 5-year old toshiba laptop gets a much better wifi signal than the brand new cutting-edge mbp. I'm assuming it's a hardware issue, so it's practically unfixable.

The computer 'says' Internet Sharing is on but my iPod searches and doesn't find a signal. Plus, the four bars at the top right of the screan do not change to a solid color with the arrow pointing up like it used to when enabled and working.

My recent MacBook Pro is losing router connectivity based on its location every few seconds. I need to be in close proximity and direct view of the router for it to stay on. The problem is not with the router, because other machines are fine.

I have a MacBook Pro 4,1 (early 2008, pre-unibody model) which has an ExpressCard slot.recommend a USB 3 to ExpressCard adapter for it, ideally one that I can source in the UK? I have looked at several via internet searches though one of the key issues seems to be having a driver that works with 10.6.8. The aim is to connect a Sony XQD card reader to the MacBook Pro via USB 3/ExpressCard to take advantage of the USB 3 speed. Sony's own XQD ExpressCard adapter does not work with OS 10.6.8 (I've emailed Sony requesting 10.6.8 driver support.)

I have an 17" i7 MBP which has connection issues with my Airport Express. Sometimes, it connects on the first try, other times I have to turn the airport, on the MBP, on and off several times before it will connect. Sometimes that won't even work, so I put the mbp to sleep, wake it back up, then it will connect. Once connected, it works fine and never have any of the disconnect problems I have read about.
The other weird thing is that at the office, where we use non-apple wireless access points, I never see an issue.
how to get it setup nicely. [URL:..] So first thing, I need to physically install the drive. Is there a good tutorial for a macbook pro 4,1 (old style aluminum) that shows you how to swap the hard drives? I'd like to just mirror the contents of my internal drive, and I've got an external 2.5 inch enclosure to help me. So, do I take out my current drive and put that in the enclosure and startup and mirror to the SSD (with super duper?)? Or is there a better way. Also does it need any special drivers or setting up? And finally are there any tips on perfomance tuning and optimizations I can make.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a MacBook Pro after being a lifelong Dell laptop user. My roommate has always had a wireless router that both of us used to connect our laptops too. It is secure and requires a password to use.
Now, when I try to connect using my MacBook, the AirPort asks for the password, which I enter, and it says it is connected and gives me an IP address (the bars are full too).....however, I can not get onto any internet site using Safari or connect to iTunes.
When I disconnect and connect to an un-secure network in my building (an Apple Network according to the name), I am able to get to sites and iTunes instantly.
Right now I'm saving for the 20" model (2.66). Would The 20" 2.66 iMac Freeze Like The 4850 Issue? Will it freeze like the upper model with wi-fi on? Making sure before I invest in an iMac.

So every so often after I open my laptop up my wireless will work initially but then all the sudden will stop working. All I have to do is turn off airport and turn it back on and it works again.

My job requires me to be mobile, and I move from one office to the next frequently, to attend to various meetings etc. Every time I move from one office to the next, I have to turn WiFi OFF, and then back ON again, in order for it to re-establish connectivity. This is a major frustration, as quite often I am downloading or uploading work applications, and have to re-start the download / upload again from scratch. It's impractical to not move until these are complete.

I just purchased a new Mac Pro (early 2009 Quad Core" 2.66 (2009/Nehalem), and a second (1GB) internal hard drive. I would like to transfer my the applications, files, and profile from my Macbook Pro (early 2008 Core 2 Duo" 2.5) to the Mac Pro. I also want to install with Boot Camp Windows XP Pro (SP3) on a separate hard drive. I want the XP drive to be the 640 GB hard drive that came with the Mac Pro, and the MacOS drive to be the added 1GB hard drive. I want the Windows drive to have 4 logical partitions ( C, D, E, and F) with the C, D, and E being NTFS (so they can exceed 32GB) and, F drive being FAT (for read/write compatibility with MacOS). I've been doing a fair amount of reading both on this forum and elsewhere, and think I have good plan to accomplish the setup. But, a lot of what I'm planning to do is new to me. So, before executing my plan, I wanted to get some feedback from the experts on this forum as to whether my plan is a good one, or needs some modification.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new aluminum MacBook 2.0 GHz with the stock RAM from my local Apple Store on Saturday for my Girlfriend. I tried to update the software the first night on Dial up and the next morning the progress bar said, Configuring Installation. It was at the same point when I returned later in the afternoon. Today we had high speed internet installed and after I set up the AirPort base station I tried the update and it did the same thing. I repaired permissions through the disc utility and had the TechTool Deluxe CD give it a look over and no issues were found. I used the disc utility from the installation disc to be sure. The same update went just fine on my MBP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I give presentations, I like to bring my own MacBook Pro so I can get right on it with all my preconfiguration. However I am staggered by the hassle of getting the dual display setting right. Usually when I plug the MacBook Pro into the projector it will give me an unpredictable display setting, and I will usually have to spend some five minutes to configure it correctly before I can launch into the presentation.
In situations when I am only allotted something like ten minutes this eats up my precious time in a big way. A valid solution is to rehearse with the projector and refrain from plugging anything into the computer between then and the presentation, but often times I have no control over what projector I will be using until the last minute.
My question is, then, is there any way I can preconfigure the display setting (two independent displays, with the desktop set to my monitor's native resolution, the VGA to 1024*768, with the laptop monitor being the primary display) that I can plug in the projector and begin immediately?

View 4 Replies View RelatedA month ago, I started to get kicked off my wireless network seemingly random. I have eight devices on the network, but only my MacBook Pro was affected. I use an Airport Extreme base station - the UFO-looking one from about 2006. This wasn't regular "can't find the network", greyed-out Airport icon kicked off - the icon became an outline and no matter what I tried, only a restart would get me back on (often to be kicked off again within minutes). Again, I have six devices on the network - my wife is in the same room, feet away, and her 2003 iBook stays on the network with no troubles. A week after I started having this problem, I noticed my battery was no longer holding a charge. I just bought a new one. My question: I didn't initially think there might be a connection between the two issues - dying battery and Airport connectivity - but now that I've had the new battery working for a day, I haven't been kicked off the network. Could the bad battery have caused the Airport to totally disconnect?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon receiving the monitor, I immediately plugged it in to my Macbook, using the Mini-DV to VGA adaptor I already had, for use with projectors. The monitor was good, but a bit blurry and not too sharp, due to the analog signal. So I ordered a Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor. When it arrived, the improved picture quality was immediately apparent.
However, as time went on, I noticed my wireless connectivity was getting terrible. Extremely slow Safari page load times, and upon going to Terminal and pinging my router, I would often get response times of 21000 milliseconds, or worse! I did a lot of research, on router firmware, on wireless connectivity, etc., but to no prevail. Then, on a whim, while continually pinging my router, I removed the DVI adaptor from my monitor. The ping instantly dropped from tens of full seconds to just a stable 0.4 milliseconds! Using my VGA connection resulted in no worse wireless connectivity than without it, but upon plugging in DVI and stressing the connection a bit (i.e. downloading a large file), the connection went bonkers. The pings also immediately jump from 0.4 milliseconds to a range of 1-4 milliseconds, regardless of any "stressing".
I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running Lion. I installed the recommended 2.7 EFI update (which was advised by the system update utility) and after the reboot, I could not access any network resources (couldn't ping the router). The information provided showed that I was connected to the WIFI AP and had a good IP Address (provided via DHCP). I connected an ethernet cable and got a new IP address in both cases, I was unable to ping the gateway IP address.
I tried clearing the PRAM and NVRAM but no success. I booted into the restore console and the wifi access there showed my Time Machine backup (connected to my Airport Extreme). I was confused by this as when fully booted, it wouldn't show anything on the network, but in the restore mode it could.I have begun the process of restoring from the previous backup which will take a few hours.

For the past week or so my system has developed a really annoying habit of basically killing the wifi connection just about every time the system goes to sleep, either automatically or manually. By 'killing' I mean connection speeds, up & down, are dragged down to miniscule rates. If you can even complete a speed test at all, say with Speakeasy, you might see something like .03 Mbps up, and a bit more than than down. Most of the time it just fails. Page loads are pretty glacial, of course, with many simply failing. Meanwhile, the iPad continues to truck right along on the same APExpress network, so that seems to be good. I was doing Restarts, which did work: All would be back to normal after that. I've subsequently learned that a Restart isn't required, all I have to do is log out of my account, then log right back in, and things are back to normal. I can't figure it out, and don't know what might have changed in the past week or so to cause this. i've never bothered to learn very much about the inner workings and hidden mechanisms of the wireless world (preferring Steve's "It Just Works .." approach to things) and that now leaves me with not much in my bag of tricks.

Formatted my MacBook Pro and clean installed Snow Leopard after I lost connectivity to any external monitor I plug in to my MBP. I noticed that as soon as I restarted with the Snow Leopard DVD, I regained the connection with my external monitor.
After format all was well until I updated all to the way it was. No problems showed until I loaded the recent update of Snow Leopard.Does anyone suffer from this? Does anyone know a solution?
