MacBook Pro :: Configuring Wireless Connection?
Jul 2, 2010
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro after being a lifelong Dell laptop user. My roommate has always had a wireless router that both of us used to connect our laptops too. It is secure and requires a password to use.
Now, when I try to connect using my MacBook, the AirPort asks for the password, which I enter, and it says it is connected and gives me an IP address (the bars are full too).....however, I can not get onto any internet site using Safari or connect to iTunes.
When I disconnect and connect to an un-secure network in my building (an Apple Network according to the name), I am able to get to sites and iTunes instantly.

I installed windows 7 on Basecamp but I can't figure out how to configure it to work wirelessly with my airport base station. Is there a specific driver to install? If yes would it be on apple or windows website? If this helps I'm using an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x93) card that came with the MBP.

I recently purchased (as in days ago) a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro. I just noticed today that my wireless connection on my Macbook Pro has been losing it's connection about every other 2-3 minutes. I was on iChat with a buddy this morning, and I must have been disconnected and then reconnected about 8 times in 20 minutes. I first thought it must have been a problem with iChat. That said, I have sat here looking at my screen for the past ten minutes, and I have seen the Airport wireless indicator disconnect and then reconnect again at least three times in the past ten minutes.
I have AT&T U-Verse Service, and I am forced to use their provided 2WIRE router. That said, I have had no problems with any other device that uses the wireless connection, from my iPhone to my PS3. I work from home and have my HP laptop literally sitting right next to my Macbook, and it has not disconnected once from the same wireless connection, whereas my Macbook has literally disconnected at least 20 times.

I have Time Warner cable and they told me that their high speed internet cable service comes with 2 IP addresses. Well, I have 4 computers. Now it was my understanding that only the router needed an IP address and the computers on the network access the internet via the router, i.e. 2 IP addresses should be more than enough. I have been trying to configure my time capsule to work with all of my computers with no success. Only 2 can access the internet. I Have a mac mini, 2 mac book pros and a pc.

Is there something wrong with my computer?? Some special update that I don't know about?? this is so annoying!! I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 but this happened also on 10.5.7 and I am using an early macbook pro model - about 3 years old. I will be connected to the wireless fine all day then like right now it drops the signal and i have to hook my computer up to an ethernet cable. I can restart modem, router, and computer but I haven't found a solution except to try again in a couple of hours and it will work fine. I know it's a problem with the computer itself and my apple care just expired so i hope it's not a hardware issue. Anyone know anything? I've tried changing the password protection on the router but still same result. Just pissed off that my $3000 computer can't hold a wireless signal.

I saw a commercial last night about a wireless connection between your laptop and your television. I think it was Toshiba that was advertising it, but could be wrong. Are MBP's capable of doing that? Is it just a matter of software? I'm guessing you need WiFi capabilities on your TV too.

I have been experiencing severe drops of my internet connection in OSX. I have tried different routers and multiple computers in the house but it's clearly my MBP that randomly looses its internet connection (WLAN stays connected). It's getting really frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Almost every time my laptop goes into sleep and back out I lose my wireless internet connection? It's not every time but it's getting more and more frequent. Is this a problem with my wireless router or a setting within? My 13" MBP is a June 2009 model. I have the Best Buy warranty but I can't be without my laptop while I'm on the road for work.

I've been having issues with my wireless. I use my home wireless network as my primary internet connection. I've noticed that I'll be using it without any problems, and then suddenly I notice pages arent loading (or if i'm playing WoW, huge lag spike.) The only way to get it going normal again is to turn the airport off and back on, and let it reconnect. Sometimes that fixes it for the rest of the day, other times I have to do that every 30 minutes. It just depends. I found [URL] but that doesn't seem to be the issue at hand, because my signal never drops, the connection just dies. Anyway of a fix? It's a pain in the ass to have to always turn my wifi on and off.

I have a macbook 2.4.
I used to connect wirelessly through a router. I can't connect anymore with my macbook, I have a message "connection timeout" when I choose appropriate network and type the code (I tried both WPA and WEP). The thing is I can connect without any issue onto the same network using a pc.
I have also a partition with Windows vista on my macbook but still I can't go online.

My 2011 Macbook pro i7 has a chronic problem: as soon as it goes to sleep, the wireless connection is lost, and has to be manually coerced back to the computer by turning the wireless off, waiting several seconds, turning it back on again, and waiting for it to find the router again. It finds the router in a few more seconds, then everything is OK until it goes to sleep again.
A real pain in the butt, and shouldn't be a problem on a supposedly high end computer.

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X (10.6.8) and I have a Netgear DGN1000 wireless modem router. My laptop wireless connection keeps dropping out lately but the internet connection itself is okay - my provider tested and no dropouts show up so it is just the wireless connect from my laptop thats dropping out.

I recently moved into a student flat with 8 other people, and we have set up a fibre optic net contract with Virgin Media, who have supplied us with a Netgear Wireless N-300 router. When we first installed it we had a little problem with it not connecting to any of our laptops, but another flatmate has since 'switched the channel to 11' and now it works on their Windows ones. But not mine. I have an early 2008 15" MBP. I'm currently sat right next to the router but the only way I can get connection from it is through the ethernet. When I switch to wireless, I can pick up a full signal pretty much everywhere in the house - we have 3 floors - but no websites will load, Spotify won't connect etc. Occasionally it will grant me two minutes of very slow connection - taking a minute to decide to access a page, then not letting me go on the next and giving me 404s instead.
I'm not really sure how to solve this as I will definitely need internet connection for my studies this Sept. My room is the one directly next to the router room so signal shouldn't be a problem. I tried downloading iStumbler a few times but it kept crashing before opening. I do know, however, from my airport bit of about this mac:
AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8C)
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
Wireless Card Firmware Version:Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.38.35)
Current Wireless Network:Wharncliffe2k10
Wireless Channel:11
What should I do? I have had issues of signal drop in most houses (where Airport loses all its bars completely and won't connect) but not this issue of having signal and still not loading.

Everything was ok until last night when I noticed this. I'm sure I didn't change anything manually in the network settings, but now I can't keep a connection for more than 10 mins. To get it back again I have to shut the airport connection (checking the diagnostics, I get a red light on the ISP circle, yellow on Internet and server) and that lasts me another 10 mins
so far I've tried sending pings, deleting this network entry and adding it back, changing the router position, but no luck. I'm able to check the router settings (tp link), but not sure what I should be looking for
the laptop works fine at my sister's place. It's just this network at home I'm having troubles with. the same thing happened all of a sudden with my imac,so I left the Ethernet cable connected to that, as it's right next to the router and it works fine.

I have followed the instructions, on the boot screen I selected the appropriate option to remote disc boot via wireless connection to my iMac to OSX. Well its been 15 minutes now and still it has not booted into the OSX setup screen. It just shows a "no smoking" type symbol, and a little circle like its doing something and the iMac Remote Install Mac OSX app just says "Waiting for MBA to startup"... but its taking so goddamn long! How long is it supposed to take to reach the OSX setup screen over wireless?

I have a new (June 09 model) 15" MacBook Pro, 2.66 GHz and I'm experiencing frequent (every 3-5 minute) drop outs on my wireless internet connection, but only when I'm running Mac OS X-- my Windows Vista Ultimate partition is operating flawlessly. After Googling, I have come to the conclusion that this is extremely common in MBPro's since there is such a saturation of search results?
Background on the wireless networks used:
- home: 128-bit WEP-open
- work: WPA2-Enterprise
Again, I haven't experienced a single disconnect when running the following:
- Vista - wireless
- Vista - wired
- Mac OS X - wired

I'm running OS X version 10.4.11 (Tiger). It's a 13" Macbook, two years old, from August 2007. I've recently been having a bunch of problems with it.
First, it drops its wireless connection a lot. Most of the time this happens while I'm playing World of Warcraft, but I've seen it happen even when I'm not. Everyone else connected to the wireless will have absolutely no problem with it, but my Airport icon in the upper righthand corner of my screen will go grey and then connect again, then go grey, connect, etc. I also experience a lot of latency in my connection when others don't (example with WoW... someone else will have 98ms latency, and mine will shoot up to 2500ms or so). Most of the time when this happens my entire computer seizes up. My game skips, my iTunes skips, my mouse skips or won't even move, I can't type or click, etc. Additionally, I've had it happen even when I'm connected to the internet with an ethernet cable with Airport turned off, and my internet connection will die completely until I restart my computer.
I've had problems with this computer in the past as well. About two months after I bought it, it wouldn't boot up and I had to reinstall the operating system. Then a year after I bought it, my motherboard crashed, and they couldn't really tell me why it might've happened.
Second, I've had two kernel panics in the past two months. The first one was July 18th, 2009, and the second one happened just about half an hour ago today (Sept 4th). The panic.log is as follows (both dates are included):

I bought an Epson C2800N which is a network laser printer. It is connected to my router with "ethernet" cable. I am able to connect to my printer over cable connection (when i have my MPB network connection with "ethernet" cable) but when I use the wireless connection (airport) I can't connect to my printer. It happens with my MBP17 and my bro's MBP15'.

Two days ago I got a 'new' refurbished 13" MBP from Apple to replace my aging 2006 MB. It's ok, but not quite as nice as I expected. One major thing I've noticed is that the wireless reception is much worse than my old MacBook. They're both connected to a Netgear WGR614 v9, but the MB is getting about 2/4 bars, while the MBP is constantly dropping the connection. In fact, right now I have the MB booted in Win7 and it's running Connectify, in order to share the connection with the MBP. I'm downloading the latest software updates right now, and then I'll see if any firmware is available, but I doubt that will make much of a difference. Is this because the new MBP is made from aluminum?

I have just bought a macbook, my internet connection at home is wireless however it requires the IP address of each computer using the wireless network to be entered into my wireless account, just an extra security measure. My new macbook has never been connected to the internet as I can not find the IP address I have tried applications/utlities/network utility and there is just a blank space where it says IP address. I have also tried System prefences/network and there is no IP address there either.
