I have a PC laptop which also uses the wireless and has never had a problem. My Mac Pro loses access to the net every few minutes or so. I usually follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and this works but only for a temporary solution until it drops out a few minutes later.also link to pic here..[URL] It always shows full bars even though in the activity monitor it just flatlines or flutters near 0kB/sec. Like many others, my connection drops although the wireless signal icon remains full. I've noticed that as long as my system doesn't idle (ie - if I'm downloading something, or on a webpage which is always sending or recieving data) the wireless connection seems alright. But if I am on a webpage (for instance, this Apple website which is idle and not sending or recieving data) for a few minutes or am away from the computer for 5 minutes, the connectivity dies and I cant access the net. I then follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and this works but only for a temporary solution until it drops out a few minutes later. Also, can I ask that NO ONE suggest that I hook my computer up via the ethernet cable as there is no access points upstairs and I'm not going to pay a tonne of money to get one installed when I paid a tonne of money for my "AirPort Extreme" so I didnt have to (which was just over 2 years ago).Â
Its been a constant problem for the last 12 months and the short-fix of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection has driven me to madness (especially when I write a lot of information into a site for example this, and after 15 minutes I click the next button or send and dont realise the net is no longer connected and I LOOSE EVERYTHING I'VE JUST TYPED. It's happened 1000's of times.

My recent MacBook Pro is losing router connectivity based on its location every few seconds. I need to be in close proximity and direct view of the router for it to stay on. The problem is not with the router, because other machines are fine.

Several times a day, my iMac loses my wi-fi signal. I'm receiving wi-fi from a Comcast cable modem connected to a Time capsule. No other device in the house loses the signal.

So every so often after I open my laptop up my wireless will work initially but then all the sudden will stop working. All I have to do is turn off airport and turn it back on and it works again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running an imac 24-inch Mid 2007 on 10.7.3. Always do the updates and everything seems ok. I have been having problems with connecting, reconnecting after sleep and just losing my connection in the middle of being on wifi. I have replaced my wireless router, I have deleted all previous wifi networks. I have also renewed my dhcp license. Nothing works. To reconnect, I have to continuously go to network preferences, assist me, diagnostics, then continue with the assist me and choose my network and it then reconnects. This is not just waking from sleep. Sometimes just randomly while working on the computer. I have read some things about equipment plugged in and I have an ATT micro cell plugged into 1 ethernet jack in my wireless router/modem, I also have a bluetooth mouse, a printer plugged in USB and a Lacie HD using Time machine.

My macbook pro is connected to the internet via WiFi router, and it very often it happens that my macbook loses connectivity with it. WiFi logo shows the same signal strength, but all browsers (Safari & Chrome) can't load webpages.Â
This issue can be solved by turning WiFi on and off, but it happens again and again. It looks like connectivity loses when Macbook goes in sleep mode and get's back from it, but sometimes connectivity issues happen even without sleep mode switching. I found in the internet that this issue can be solved by turning off Bluetooth.
My job does not have internet service. How do I get WiFi?

There's something wrong with the Wifi connectivity on my Macbook Pro. Every few minutes, I lose connection to the internet even though it says I'm still connected to my network. I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on for it to start working again. It only works for a few minutes and sometimes hours, but then I have to turn Wi-Fi off and then on agian. It only happens on my MacBook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, approximately once a month, the Mac loses the wifi settings. This sends the clock back to January 1st and takes several attempts of reentering the network name and password before it is recognised again.
Also, the wifi settings seem to no longer be part of the keychain when that happens.
This is getting to be a pain. Does anyone know why this happens (it only happens on one of the Macs; others are fine)? What can I do to repair it for good?

I have 3 macs working off my wireless router. Two out of three are still working fine, but the third (an iMac G5) keeps losing its network connection and either won't find the network or, if it does, will not allow me to rejoin it, even after entering the relevant key/password. It has been in the same location in my house and has worked fine for the last five years. But oddly, if I move the G5 to within a few feet of the router it starts working again (though sometimes seems unable to find the network, although when it does it will let me join it, hassle free).Â
Have spoken to some Apple guys and, following their advice, have gone into SYSTEM PREFERENCES, NETWORK, LOCATION but having got that far a pop-up appears telling me that an application has changed my network settings. Zapping OK, this dialog box just keeps re-appearing and the only way I can get out of this corner is by 'force quit'. Â

I'm no expert and not sure if I could repeat if needed. The support desk could not guarantee that this will permanently fix the problem though.

For several weeks I've lost internet connection on my iMac every day or so; the wifi icon changes to show a ! and is otherwise greyed out. My internet connection is via a relatively new Time Capsule (2011) which has an ethernet cable connecting it to my Sky broadband router. I moved to this new Sky broadband router in early Jan 2012 (changing to Sky as a Broadband provider) and it works nicely as a router. My iPhone, iPad, AppleTV and a range of other devices (including an Apple Airport Express connected to a Sky TV HD box to enable it to download movies) have continued to work on the internet without problems.
The IP address of the iMac (27 inch quad core i7, 8 GB RAM, fully up to date on Lion) disappears from the Network settings when the problem arises but the connection of the iMac to the wifi (and backing up to the Time Capsule) still works. I can even use a VNC app on the iPad to connect to the iMac on the same wifi LAN when the IP address has gone and the ! is showing in the wifi icon on the menu bar. To get reconnected to the internet, I just restarted the iMac and it was then back accessing the web nicely. Eventually the iMac would not connect to the internet at all. It would momentarily get an IP address from the router and then lose it again. I then tried taking the iMac to the Apple Store.
Various diagnostics run in store at Genius Bar and during the week and the problem (using the same account) was not replicated. On its return home, it was still not working on the internet. I then tried booting into 'safe mode'. This enabled a stable and reliable connection to the internet! After several days in this mode, I re-installed Lion and booted into normal mode again. The problem returned and has been with the iMac since. However, at least a restart of the iMac gets it straight back on to the internet again. I suspect some sort of corrupted network preference file or the like. But where? The disconnection from the internet can happen any time of day; for example it happened while typing this message but more often than not it happens when the computer is unattended.

I am starting a new thread. I was having connectivity to the internet issues earlier. I have an IPAD an IMAC and a PC. I had to unplug my router to move it. Now it seems that I can only get internet access on one device. Earlier in the day my PC internet worked and the IPAD and IMAC did not. After shutting down my PC the IMAC began to work. Is there a setting somewhere for multiple devices?

I've bought new Thunderbold 27' display and connected it as a second screen to my iMac. Video works fine but I've just discovered that all ports of that display are not functioning, i.e. USB ports are not working, and I can't see its camera and speakers from my iMac. Is it possible somehow to get it working? Especially USB would be very wonderful.

I have wireless network run via BT hub. However because of ongoing connectivity issues connect the main machine via the ethernet. I no longer use my Airport extreme. Since I first bought this machine I have had connectivity issues. At first thought it was BT & while initially it was I can now isolate the issues to this specific machine. I find that in the morning the connection has gone down & the only way to get it back is to restart everything. I can however get connected through all my other devices.Â
I am using Lion & safari or chrome or firefox! Have regular clearences of my cache.I have to box up the machine & trundle to my nearest Apple store (my 90 days home support is expired).

Why does my Mac keep losing internet connection every 5 minutes - I end up having to turn wifi OFF and ON again each time.
As all other devices in the house connect seamlessly to the wireless router, the problem is only with my MAC desktop.Â
