My new 25" HP 2510i monitor arrived today, all is good except from the speaker system, I can either have the iMac's built in speakers used or the built in monitor speakers used. Is it possible to combine them both and use both?
The monitor's audio interface connects to my iMac via the headphone jack on the back of the system.
built in speakers disabled
Info:PowerBook G4 (17-inch Double Layer SD), Mac OS X (10.7.3), speaker icon is grey
I have no sound from my built in speakers and no built-in audio device listed in my settings. They worked yesterday!!

The speakers on my Macbook have suddenly stopped working. If you plug headphones in, fine. In the system preferences, 'built in speakers' are no longer an option for audio output. Just 'digital out'. When I try and change the volume of the speakers, the symbol is greyed out, and there's a little "you can't do this" symbol.
I have a Macbook black 2.0ghz with 10.5.8
Which speakers are better, the ones that come built-in on the '09 24" iMac or Logitech X230? I'm not sure what the iMac's speaker stats are, but here are the stats for x230's:
# Total RMS power: 32 W RMS
Satellites: 12 W RMS (6 W x 2)
Subwoofer: 20 W RMS
# Total peak power: 64 W
# Frequency response: 40Hz - 20kHz
# Drivers:
Satellites: (2) 2" drivers per satellite
Subwoofer: 5.25" ported driver
# Speaker dimensions (H x W x D, cm):
Satellites: 20.3 X 6.4 X 7.6
Subwoofer: 22.9 x 15.2 x23.5
# Signal-to-noise ratio: >96dB
Reason I ask is that I have the x230's and they're considered as cheap speakers, so I don't know if I should use them with the iMac or not. The one advantage I see them having over the iMac's is that they have a 20w subwoofer, but I don't know if the satellites are better or not.
the sound is not playing from my built in speakers, but my slider and keyboard controls both show full volume.

I am streaming iTunes to another room using an Audioengine AW1 (over usb, not the analog input) and it works fine. Looking at JACK audio, Soundflower or Apple's AudioMIDI utility, I feel I should be able to use one or a combination of these resources to output iTunes to both the AW1 and my desktop's headphone port. Unfortunately, I can't seem to perform both. Well, technically I can in using a "y" audio cable to output from the Mac headphone port to headphones and to the analog-in on the AW1's, but that really doesn't work adequately. The output volumes are considerably lower and tied together. I am looking to figure out how to add a usb audio device as another, and simultaneous output.

how you can call people from Skype™ with no microphone, but only from speakers? My friend wants to know this, he apparently wants to use some soundboard, and if you call from your speakers, the person you are calling can only hear the soundboard but nothing else like background noise or anything.
He's been bugging me to find this out, lol. He has a MacBook Pro 15" OS X Lion.

I'm a recent PC to iMac convert and have hooked up my iMac to my TV receiver (DVI to HDMI connector and a Toslink cable to the audio). The issue is as soon as I plug in the audio connector the iMac speakers stop working. I'd like to leave the connector plugged in and still be able to use the iMac speakers. Of course when I play a movie on the TV I'd just mute the iMac speakers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I purchased my MacBook Pro, with Lion installed, several months ago, I set up the system with my name as administrator, using a form of my name which was different from that which I used on my old iMac. I then went through the migration process, transferring all my stuff from the iMac to my MacBook Pro. I then had two administrators in the MacBook Pro. As everything seemed to be working ok I recently deleted the original MBP administrator setup. Now, when I attempt to play a song in iTunes I get the message “There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device’XxxxXxx’”. The name of the Airplay device referred to is my administrator name which is no longer in use and has now been deleted. In other words, iTunes seems to think it is linked to the administrator as set up when I first acquired the MacBook Pro, before migrating my setup from the iMac.The MacBook Pro speakers are working ok with other applications such as Safari and FaceTime.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes. The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility. You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
After I pulled out the jack for my speakers the volume icon was greyed out [URL]and soon I realized that internal speakers as such have been disabled from the system [URL]When I restart the startup chime is played as usual. Is it a hardware or software thing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis may or may not be a stupid proposition, but here it goes: I have a Klipsch Promedia GMX 2.1a speaker system which I like very much. However, I was wondering if I could replace the existing satellite speakers with bookshelf speakers (like Klipsch RB-10 s). I'm hoping this will work because I want to increase the audio output of my system without spending money on an amplifier.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Black Macbook's (2.16GHz Core 2 Duo) in-built audio has suddenly stopped working. There is no 'Dong' at the startup. In the system profiler under the 'Audio (Built In)' tab it says that there is 'No Built-In Audio'. I can't change the volume or anything and in system prefs under sound is says no output devices are found. Has my soundcard fried? Is there anyway of replacing it fairly cheaply? My macbook is out of warenty unfortuantly! Is the only other option buying a cheap USB soundcard ? If so does anyone know of any slimline ones that would work?

I've heard completely different things, saying I don't need antivirus software and I do. I sometimes use websites with a risk of viruses to watch TV programmes and films online or to download music etc, so perhaps it is safer to download some software?
