MacBook Pro :: Cannot Turn On After A Damp Night
May 27, 2012
I left my mbp next to an open window on a very damp night after a few very damp days. In the monring it would not start after I pressed the power button, and the magsafe connector appeared to be dead, there was no light of any color. I used another magsafe whose light did turn on, and left it all plugged in overnight. In the morning it all turned on as if nothing had happened, and my magsafe appeared to be working fine. I had everything back up, and was lucky to be in town, but what do I do now to trouble shoot and make sure this doesn't happen again?

I just bought my Intel-based iMac last night and it took forever to turn on out of the box. I guess I made a mistake by doing a "soft" power down last night, because this morning it will NOT turn on. I've tried using the power button and waiting. I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in, and then using the power button, and waiting. Nothing works. I've been a PC user for 20 years and just bought this, my first Mac, last night. I think I've made a huge mistake! How the heck do you turn these things on????

I have been shutting down my MacBook Pro OS X10.7.3 at night.I just read that OSX runs "maintenance" procedures early in the morning (between 3:15 am and 5:30 am) and that if Mac is powered off at that time, that these maintenance procedures will NOT run.True or False? AppleCare says that it won't make any difference and I won't be affected if these night procedures never run. But, if that's true, then why are they set up to run at night? ? I went to the Apple Manual but it does not address my question.

I have a new MBP 13". When I'm using the Mac it's mostly connected to AC. Over night it's mostly sleeping without the AC connected. My question is, if I should let it sleep at night or should I shut down the Mac regarding to maximize the battery life?

I have already run the battery down to zero left it over night and started it up and it had 2% so I ran that down again. Is it now suffice to say that it is dead? Or should I leave it for the rest of the day and try to turn it on and run it down once more

I Can't figure out what is going on; I've played around in the battery settings; but maybe I'm just too Green to my used 17 Inch Macbook Pro that I bought 3 months ago.
I used to have a full battery at night, close the lid go to sleep and have hardly any battery loss first thing in the morning.
Now, I close the lid or even manually put the Macpro to sleep ( from the apple menu ) and wake 8 hours later with " NO" battery.
whats going on? what do I need to check? what do I need to set? this is getting frustrating.
the battery is still strong get about 3 hours on a full charge; it's a mac battery; so It must just be settings or something I need to do in the software.

How do I set up a MacBook Pro running Lion to interface with Starry Night software? My telescope is a Meade LX200GPS with a serial input. I have tried using a Radio Shack USB/Serial adapter which worked when I used a Windows 7 laptop but does not work with my MacBook Pro.

When I close the lid on my MacBook Pro (Late 2008), the battery drains almost completely over a night or so! Very odd. Anyone else dealing with this? I reset the PRAM already.

Is it harmful to my macbook to leave the lid open in sleep over-night for iAlarm? I know it seems slightly naive, but is sleep different when the lid is closed versus open?

I ordered an 24" iMac with 2.93 GHz (I think thats the number) and I am supposed to get it today. Anyways. I was wondering if it is safe to keep it on all night and never turn it off. Will it become slower? When should I shut it off?

I have noticed my iMac waking up in the middle of the night when it's sleeping. It's not real loud or anything, but I am a light sleeper and it wakes me up, sort of like a Twighlight Zone episode. Does anyone else notice this? Could it be spywre?

My iMac seems to wake up often in the middle of the night and in the day when I'm at school. I was wondering if there's an app/pill that can attempt to do the opposite of Caffeine: keep my Mac asleep at night. Does anyone know of such a thing? I doubt it exists, but then again sometimes I doubt I exist.

I accidently deleted some file on my computer that wouldn't let me start up my MacBook pro, 13 Inch, so I had to press Command- R at start up (brought me to Lion Recovery) and I choose reinstall lion and I started it yesterday morning and all day and over night. It's barely half way through and it says "148 Hours Left" which is crazy.. Should I just wait? is this normal? what do I do?

I left Time Machine on to run last night while I was sleeping. I woke up to 12 new "2009-10-31" backup folders. It seems to be backing up a small 105kb file every hour. Obviously there is nothing else to backup because the system is idle, I'm not making any changes to files. I'm not sure I noticed this happen in Leopard. Any idea on what that small file is that it keeps backing up?

Newbie here, It has just come to my attention that my 27" iMac wakes up during the night. It is always put to sleep at night rather than turned off. My parents are staying for the weekend & sleeping in the same room as the imac, & mentioned this morning that screen turned on a couple of times during the night. I looked at the time machine back ups & found it had made 2 during the night.

I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:
1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.

I have just come back home and turned on my macbook 2007 model. I was using it fine just 5 minues ago. Then I shut it down. Now It will not turn on. I've had 2 hard drives die before (made clicking noises). My 3rd drive was purchased 1 month ago. Is there any way to determine what's wrong? There have been no drops or obvious physical damages. It just will not turn on. There's no signs/lights or error messages. (the battery has charge and the power cord is plugged in) [i dont have apple care]

Well I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro in January 2009. And for the most part it's worked like a dream.
Last night I was using it as usual, when suddenly I heard a very brief, quiet internal noise and the computer turned off immediately. It was as if some vital component inside the computer said "screw this" and stopped working.
Now when I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried using battery only, AC only, and both. Nothing works.
I've scheduled a phone call with Apple support, but until then. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when this happened, just browsing the web.

So yesterday my keyboards didn't want to work. So I reinstalled everything again and then it worked, but the letter O was showing only capatalized and when I pressed shift it would give the letter O and when I tried to type a question mark or quotation marks using the shift keys the windows would minimize.
Then, researching on what to do next I found that some people found reseting the RAM should help. So I did, I removed the batteries, held down the power button for 5 sec..and so on. After that my MacBook didn't want to turn on. I've tried everything on the Apple Support page, but still nothing.I was wondering if anyone had this problem before and what to do.
