I just installed the new Leopard and now i have only 3 gigs of memory left out of the original 74.21 gb. I know before i installed it i had ~27 gigs left, is there anyway to find out what is taking up all the additional space?

I have an older iMac with OS 10.6.8, and one memory tray is empty. I'd like to know how much the Apple Store/Genius Bar will charge me to install one of their 1 GB memory cards. So, in aggregate, the cost of the memory + the installation at the Apple Store). Is it cheaper to have an Apple-certified technician do the installation?

Does anyone have instructions for the new macbook Air 128Gb ssd, how to do a clean install, if you follow the procedures from the first model, you can omit the printer driver, other languages etc. but the applications are on a second DVD called Application DVD (unlike the 1st Macbook Air where it was Mac OS system disk 1 and 2) and its all or nothing, I didn't check the box and all the apps were installed, I don't need Garage Band, IMOVIE or IDVD etc, has anyone come across this and a solution for it, maybe not insert the applications DVD to save the additional disk space?

I had to do an erase and install on it because of an issue that came up while using the migrant assistant. So, after doing the erase/install it says that I only have 216 gb of space left? And thats without the applications CD that I have to put in which will be about 4 gb. I believe when I first turned the computer on before doing the erase/install it had about 235?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Laptop runs slow and often spins when I open the browser or other apps sometimes and found the load average to be less than and also about 300MB free memory, till I notice swap as 40MB/256MB on iStat.
Questions:
1. How do I find out what process is causing the swap? The top does not show swap, and the vm_stat does not show swap either like vmstat does.
2. In the memory what does the wired, Active, Inactive memory mean? The only value that makes sense is Free.
My wife has an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook with Leopard 10.5.8. We've run the software update. We've run repair disk permissions. We've restarted the computer. But despite all of that, her virtual memory usage is really high compared to my computer. Each process is using from approximately 600 - 1100 MB of virtual memory. She has 12 GB of free space on her hard drive, but her computer has been running slower lately and has had the low startup disk space warning.

I have been running out of hard drive space and have deleted a whole bunch of files... even deleted all the languages i didn't need from all my applications... about a week ago i freed up around 2GB.... but without saving and downloading anything my free space is now 70MB!! All I have been doing is watching streamed videos and I notice this reduces the drive space as I'm watching it!! Even opening firefox and some websites drops my memory by 0.1MB. I can't find anywhere where temporary files might be so i can delete them.
I never used to have this problem but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I now use wireless internet through a phone provider and a USB modem rather than my previous WiFi via cable broadband.
Can anybody shed some light on what is stealing my memory when browsing?

I've been using my external hard drive for Time Machine for a while now (a Western Digital My Book) and have only used up about 100 of its 500 GB capacity. However, I'd like to temporarily use the remaining space on the drive as extra storage, since my other hard drive just died. Is there any way to do this without erasing everything that I've backed up with Time Machine already?

I've only just got the macbook air 2012 with 64gb of space and now it seems that i have run out of space..Apparently i'm using 54gb and i just can't see how thats possible, because i've only download atleast 2 apps and got iphoto and imovie. Â
Also i haven't got mavericks because i don't think i have enough and i just don't see how i've run out already?? How can i check how much i have left and whats taking up all the space?
On my previous OS version I simply clicked the activity monitor to see how much disc space was used and how much was available? I can't find that function now.Â

I got my first Mac (15" MacBook Pro) in late June, so I will be receiving my Snow Leopard disc within the next week or so. This will be my first reinstallation of OSX. I will not do an upgrade however - I'm still going to do a clean reformat/reinstall. So, is it necessary to do additional driver installations once you have finished installing OSX? I know on a Windows machine, after you install the OS, you really need to go through and install drivers for most of your hardware. I'm wondering how this works with OSX.

Or, can we use PCI-X video cards for Windows and somehow flash them with Mac drivers? Of course, there is the matter of budget: we have very little to work with. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to mac and I've noticed that I can have 2 gigs of memory one day and the next I'm down to 24 or something!I've noticed that if I open a file in Itunes and then change the info that there are now 2 files in the finder, one with the old info and the new with the new metadata. Why does OS-X do that?!

In one document in MS Word 2004, the language keeps reverting to French. I try resetting both the default language and the language choice as English (Tools > Language...), however, rather quickly it reverts back to French. This messes up the spell check. What can I do to keep it on English? (With a google search, I did find a 2005 post that mentions this as a systemic problem. However, in the document with the French problem, the text is being corrected in a weird way. It's not accepting a semi-colon ; next to a word. Instead, it inserts a space between the word and the semi-colon. What's that all about and how do I change it? Are these problems related?

Both methods gets to the end where I get an error saying cant install additional components.

I recently deleted my timemachine plist and reformatted my external oak to start time machine fresh. Is this a difference between metric an binary counting of bytes?
