MacBook Pro :: Brightness Keys Have Stopped Working?

I have a MBP with an apple wireless keyboard. The keyboard has brightness keys on it but they have recently stopped working. It is strange as the keys on the MBP still work but the ones on the bluetooth keyboard, placed exactly in the same spot (the wireless KB and the Macbook pro's KB are exactly the same), don't.

MacBook Pro :: Some Of Keys Stopped Working
Some of the keys have stopped working, has anyone encountered this before? It's the up cursor, right cursor, square close bracket, plus/equals and up volume key. Sometimes they work but only for a second. I've blown the keyboard through with air but I'm a bit concerned now because of repair costs.

MacBook Pro :: Delete And Arrow Keys Stopped Working
I spilled some water on my laptop this morning but it wasn't a lot and seemingly nothing happened. Then several hours later all of the sudden my delete key and arrow keys are not working. I can only assume this has something to do with the spill. My MacBook Pro is over 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired. I definitely can't afford a new one or expensive repairs. Is there anyway to change the function of my keys? In other words can I change say one of my shifts or command keys into a new delete key ?

I can't backspace anymore. And just now, as I type this, I noticed if I press delete I -forward- delete, and I can still highlight text and delete it that way. How do I change the delete key to backspace? Also, my arrow keys used to move the cursor within text. now it just scrolls the page up and down.

MacBook Air :: Function Keys Not Working For Brightness Or Volume?
I have a 2011 (?) macbook air and ever since my trip to the genius bar for a battery issue my function keys don't work after I wake it up (just opening screen).  May also be related to last firmware update?

I have checked the function key mapping in settings and they are normal.  The volume key launches Expose and the brightness keys (and others) don't do anything.  A reboot helps but only untill the first time I put it to sleep (close/open lid).

Software :: Brightness Slider And Function Keys Not Working
The issue is with the brightness keys and the brightness slider controls. It appears that after the 10.4 upgrade the main LCD on some PBs and iBooks stops working. In my case the attached screen lost the ability to adjust brightness, but my external 20" LCD is fine. It looks like two things have happened. The association between the keys (F1 and F2) and the code for controlling brightness somehow got disconnected and/or the "capability" of the mac to adjust the brightness of the attached LCD got lost in the upgrade. We've tried repair permissions, rebooting, new users to no avail.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 - Volume And Brightness Stopped Working?
Up until recently, F1 - F5 have been Brightness and Volume controls, as they have been since I got the thing. I go to use the Volume, and it doesn't work. I then try the Brightness, and it doesn't work. F6 - F12 all work just fine, which leads me to believe that iBook had a brain fart.

My volume balance has always altered itself. Balancing itself out of one speaker left or right as it so chooses. I know it's smart, but now it's just screwing with me. Settings go and change on their own, dock icons have switched, but this one has stumped me. How do I get those hardware function keys back to doing what they're there to do?

Also, I tried it with an App called Rowmote, that lets you control your Mac from your iPhone, with Apple Remote-like control, and the volume won't change using that either. Another symptom is that sometimes it makes clicking sounds, as if it were changing slowly and glitchy (which it did click sometimes anyhow) when using the Volume slider in the menu bar.

No, the options in System Preferences is not checked to use them as FN. Any ideas?

IMac Intel :: Bluetooth Keyboard Brightness Controls Stopped Working?
I've got a 27" iMac 3.06 GHz with bluetooth aluminum keyboard (2-battery version) and Magic Mouse/Mighty Mouse, depending on whether my fingers are hurting or not. It's running OS 10.6.2, and Win 7 in an 80 GB Boot Camp partition. All Apple updates, including the two 27" iMac video firmware updates and the recent keyboard firmware update, have been applied.

The problem is that the brightness controls on the keyboard do not work when booted into Snow Leopard; they do work when booted into Win 7 (they worked with Boot Camp 3.0 and still work after the BC 3.1 update). The same holds true for a first-gen aluminum keyboard (3-battery version) as well as a USB aluminum keyboard. All keyboards are the "shorty" versions. The brightness controls on all three also do not work when I'm booted into a Snow Leopard "Test" user account with administrator privileges.

When I'm booted into a clone of the iMac's hard drive on an external hard drive, the brightness controls work. That clone is dated Jan. 30. But a second clone on yet another external hard drive, dated Feb. 20, does not let the brightness controls work. Something, obviously, happened between Jan. 30 and Feb. 20. All I can think is that there was a keyboard firmware update for the 2-battery version that I applied in the last week, as well as a second iMac 27" video firmware update earlier this month.

In my attempts to get the brightness controls to work again, and to resolve a problem caused by the recent 27" iMac video firmware update that apparently broke the ability of Win 7 to boot, I wiped the iMac's hard drive and did a clean install of 10.6.1 from the system disk, then installed all Apple updates. I did not import any of my data from Time Machine. The brightness controls were working. I used Migration Assistant to import all of my data, apps, settings, etc. and upon restart the brightness controls no longer worked.

I got exactly the same results when I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and restored all my personal data, etc. using Time Machine during the post-install setup process.

(As an aside, it was a bear to reinstall Win 7, which installed very easily last November before the iMac 27" video firmware updates. Apple issued a special "iMac Late 2009 Win 7 Drivers" (bluetooth and ATI video) folder in late January that has to be placed on a FAT USB thumb drive during the Win 7 install to let people see the final setup screens. When that didn't work for me, I installed an Acer LCD with DVI as a video mirror. Without the Acer, which had video when the iMac didn't, I was able to see what was going on and enter the commands necessary to complete the install. That video update really messed up what was a very smooth dual-boot setup.

I've gone into System Preferences>Language & Text and followed troubleshooting tips here by setting up the Keyboard Viewer: [URL] All this did was to confirm that the keyboard brightness increase and decrease buttons (F1 and F2) did not work -- on all three keyboards. When I changed Keyboard preferences to set all preference keys as standard F1, F2, etc. keys, the keys showed they were working in Keyboard Viewer, but the brightness control window didn't show up on-screen.

I've Googled, Apple Discussioned and otherwise run out of clues and answers. Something obviously got munged and it's probably something like a plist. My suspicion is that the latest iMac 27" firmware update is the culprit, but I find that hard to believe. It would seem the iMac 27" bluetooth keyboard firmware update is the culprit, but that was only applied to that keyboard, not to the other two aluminum keyboards I'm using for tests. Interestingly enough, though, when I boot the iMac from the external clone that does permit the brightness keys to work, Software Update says there's a keyboard firmware update needed, even though it's already been applied (I watched the green light flash, etc. myself.) So perhaps that update is what's behind this problem.

There's no other way to adjust brightness on the iMac, and booting into Win 7 to adjust brightness, then back into Snow Leopard, isn't a, um, bright way to do it.

IMac Intel :: Alt With Command Keys Stopped Working
Yesterday afternoon I noticed that both of the Alt+Command keys on the left and right of my keyboard stopped working. They do not respond at all when pressed and the computer doesn't even recognize them as a key (I tried to change the commands for them in the keyboard preferences and the computer didn't even know I was pressing ALT). I find it hard to believe that the keys have just broken as both of the same keys on the same keyboard have broken. I plugged in my older keyboard, (the chunky old apple one) and the keys on this keyboard work absolutely fine. I also tried my keyboard on my Dad's much newer iMac and the same problem was present, however his own keyboard worked fine. I currently use the new Apple Keyboard, wired with NumPad.

The machine is covered by Apple Care which, I think would, replace the keyboard, but is there any home remedy to try before taking to the local Apple store?

Right now, MOST of the FKEYS do what is printed on them, controlling sound, brightness, F9 and F10 only work when you hold the fn key (lower left). How can I get those to work without that? I know there is an option in the Keyboard control panel, but that only makes it so I have to use the fn key for ALL of them.
