Are the led's under the keys auto controlled due to the amount of light in the room? I use my MacBook pro on battery most of the time and every time I go to turn up the keyboard brightness its in a different place. I want to set it to be at a specific brightness when its plugged in and when its running on battery, at a lower brightness but the same every time. I want to be able to have settings for the led brightness.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got a new MBP this week and curious as to how/why my display brightness, along with the brightness of the backlit keyboard keep changing without me doing anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo Apple wanted to charge me $900 to change my broken LCD screen. I did the change myself for $86, a feat I am very proud of. Everything works great (the bezel's a bit loose and I did a little aesthetic damage to the hinge cover) but apart from that, the screen is 10x brighter than my old Rev B screen. The problem is this: I can't regulate brightness. Neither from in system preferences or from my keyboard. The monitor does, however, dim, and sleep. Is this a firmware issue? If so, how do I fix it? I would kinda' like to have control over screen brightness. After some use, this screen is really SUPER bright. I'd really like to get the brightness down to humane levels (it's shining out the back of the case where you normally don't see light).
View 11 Replies View RelatedA few minutes ago I noticed that my MBA's keyboard was not lighting up as it's supposed to. A little experimenting and I found the solution (you may kick yourself, this is so simple):
The F5 key decreases keyboard brightness.
The F6 key increases keyboard brightness.
The icons on these two keys are the clue.
I use my MBP hooked up to an NEC display with an Apple wired keyboard. Is there any way to have the F1/F2 keys still control the brightness on the MBP display? They currently don't do anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've recently purchased the new 13" MBP, and to my understanding, there is a light sensor that turns up the brightness of the backlit keyboard and screen when in dark environments.
However, the problem with my MBP is that when I turn on the lights in my room, the screen brightness and backlit keyboard both turn brighter, and when I turn off the lights, the screen and keyboard grow dimmer, which is exactly the opposite of what is supposed to happen.
just move to apple mac from windows can someone point to the delete button on the keyboard

this has happened a million times when using the stamp tool in photoshop: i am happily stamping away, when suddenly i hear a noise by the system after which i can not use the keyboard any longer. the noise sounds like a key turning in a lock and most keys get locked indeed (arrow keys are still functioning) in all applications including the finder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen my laptop is connected to my Apple Keyboard, I can control the brightness with the F1 and F2 keys on my external Apple Keyboard. However, when I connect an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, the F1 and F2 keys no longer work.
Is there a way to control the brightness of my laptop's screen (NOT the external monitor) with my external Apple Keyboard even when an external monitor is plugged into my MacBook Pro?
I have the late 2008 uMBP.
Using an Apple Bluetooth keyboard, when I lock my screen (using the Keychain Access dropdown menu method) and leave my computer for an extended period of time (a matter of hours), the keyboard disconnects and thus, I cannot enter my password when I return. I checked the Bluetooth set up options and while I realize this is likely due to battery life concerns for the keyboard, is there anyway to keep the keyboard connected while not in active use? Is there a screen locking method that still allows me access to the Bluetooth set up menu when locked?

I think this is a problem that started with Snow Leopard and I'm wondering if there's a solution to it yet.
Right now I have iTunes open playing music, as well as a paused video in VLC. When I press the play/pause button (F8) on my black late 2008 MacBook, it pauses iTunes but then unpauses the VLC video. This is obviously totally unwanted behavior. How do I fix this so that this button only controls one app at a time?
I have a 15 inch aluminum macbook pro, Snow Leopard and recent updates all installed, but i noticed something on my friends 13 inch macbook pro that mine doesn't do.
On my friends, when you press the screen dim/bright button (F1, F2), its a gradual transistion, but on mine it just jumps down a notch.
For example, when you hold down the dim button on my friends MBP, it the screen dims in a similar way as to when you put your finger over the iSight camera, it fades to a dimmer screen.
I just purchased a new wired keyboard for imac and brightness and volume control keys not working . i have tried adjusting keyboard settings. I have software version 10.5.8. Do I need to upgrade software.

The brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
I tried an SMC reset and all. It was working, system locked had to reboot, and then a looking for bluetooth keyboard dialouge came up on restart. I got out of that, worked with mouse for a while, then realized my usb keyboard was not working. I reset SMC, tried different USB ports, Everything.

I have recently put windows 7 professional on my aluminum macbook, installed all the drivers, and so forth. I hook up my macbook up to an external monitor, and use a logitech dinovo keyboard for a mac. However, when I am in windows 7, the function keys do not adjust volume, brightness, and any other of the functions.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFollowing on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it! Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it! Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using. Â
I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.Â

You know how in Windows you can use the tab key to tab through fields in a dialogue box until the OK or Cancel button is selected, then use the enter key to execute one's choice? Well how does one do that in Leopard? For example, I am entering a lot of transactions into my accounting software (MYOB) and each entry has to be recorded by hitting the OK button. It's highlighted in blue but hitting the enter key doesn't do it and I cannot tab to it. It would speed things up greatly if I didn't have to keep mousing to the button.

Second, the eject button on the keyboard does not seem to work. It may be that I'm noob and all, but I tried both clicking and holding down the eject button on the keyboard. Result: a clicking the tray does some normal noise but nothing really happens?

I can't seem to edit any pictures with Preview anymore since I upgraded to Lion. Every time I try to save an image after resizing or whatever, it says the file is locked. If I check the info of the file the "locked" checkmark is unchecked. And I have all the permissions to the file. Tried everything, switched the "lock after 2 weeks" thing of in Time Machine (even though tha would probably not help: images I took today are still "locked" in Preview), tried copying them and then saving them, and tried to lock them and then unlock them, but I can't seem to edit and save them.
