Switcher here. First off, I can't for the love of god understand why apple didn't include a simple eject button on the chassi. Second, the eject button on the keyboard does not seem to work. It may be that I'm noob and all, but I tried both clicking and holding down the eject button on the keyboard. Result: a clicking the tray does some normal noise but nothing really happens?

So now when i turn on my macbook it loads windows xp from the start and the right click button and the eject button on the keyboard dont work. So now i am trying to reinstall mac os x and i cant find my os x disc, so i have leopard on a flash drive and i cant install it, and i have mac os 8 so i was going to try and install that and then open my flash drive and install leopard, but it wont boot, I help every button on start up and nothing works.

i've had a Macbook for a couple years and I have some knowledge of OS X but this one has stumped me.My friend called me tonight and she told me on her new iMac that in the finder window, after clicking on Macintosh HD, the eject button was missing that should be next to the device.This apparently happened earlier today with a CD and happened when she called me with an External HDD.
She was however able to eject the stuff by either dragging it to the trash or doing "Open Apple" + E, key shortcut. I'm stumped on this because she was till able to eject the HDD or CD with the previous methods but the Finder, "eject" button for the devices was missing.
I have a 17" MacBook Pro (early 2007). I was having a problem with the touch pad button not responding. Tired using a USB mouse - still had a problem. Lost all control of mouse.
SOLUTION: Battery had swollen slightly causing pressure on area below touch pad. Got a new battery (under extended warranty) at no cost; problem solved! It took the "Mac Genius" at the Apple store about 2 minutes to diagnose the problem.
I haven't noticed this when using a USB mouse, but when I use my trackpad recently, and click on a non-active window, it focuses on the window I clicked on and then immediately "minimizes" it into the dock.

I've been accustomed to pressing the volume up button as the second to last key in the top row, but with the new MBA, there is an eject button replacing it. Why is there even an eject button if there is no built in CD Drive. Yes, some ppl use the superdrive, but i dont see how the rest of us need that button. Apple is trying to emphasize the lack of importance of the CD Drive itself, so why are they still adding this nonessential key?

Is the "button" area of the trackpad (where the button would be) suppose to be unresponsive to movements, for example, when I move slowly along the button area, my mouse curser does not move at all while any movement in the middle is registered with high sensitivity. It only starts to register when I move towards to middle of the trackpad or quickly along the button. However, three and four finger gestures work perfectly along the button area. I have also notice that the corners of the trackpad are also unresponsive to movements.

So is there a terminal command, a .plist to edit, or even some 3rd party plug-in that will allow this to happen? It is really frustrating when OSX is locking up due to a bad DVD or something, or if I am in a hurry and need the damn drive to spit out the disk PRONTO..
I don't know if this is normal. However I have the mid-2009 uMBP, and the eject button on my keyboard doesn't eject the DVD or the eject an external device, even if i select the item on my desktop first.

in some cases the eject button (in the finder window) of an external hd is not shown, whereas in other times it is shown next to the ext. hd icon...

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe "Eject" button on the MBA is supposed to used when a SuperDrive is connected, to eject the CD/DVD. But to many of us who don't use the SuperDrive, that function is useless and the key is wasted. I am wondering, could we somehow set it to work with other external devices like external hdd, USB drives, etc.? i.e., instead of going right-click on the device and then selecting "Eject ABC" before unplugging, simply click the device (on desktop), then press that little Eject button on your keyboard.

Any disk or other removable drive gives me the eject button but not the iDisk. I am running on the latest version of Tiger (10.4.5) and a 12" 1.25GHz iBook G4 with 1.25GB Ram. I know those stats really don't make a difference, except for maybe the OS, but just in case anyone was wondering.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout once every other week, both my keyboard and Mighty Mouse (it makes no difference whether I'm using the wired or BT MM) lock up solid. They don't do anything. The only fix I've found is to power off my Late 2007 Al iMac with the power button in the back, unplug the iMac from the APC UPS for 10 seconds, then plug the iMac back in and power it up.
Anyone have the same problem or know the fix?
I'm going to contact Apple about it shortly, but thought I'd try here first. The iMac is one year old and it just started doing this about 6 weeks ago. I did get the 3 year warranty at the time of purchase, so I'm covered.
My keyboard all of a sudden will either not respond to the keys i am pressing (intermittent) or will stay pressed down, thus getting the "iiiii" (or whatever key) deal.

At first, after applying only the 10.6.5 update, neither keyboard nor mouse would work unless I unplugged and replugged the keyboard (the mouse is connected directly to the KB). Later, I installed the combo update, and then the mouse worked but the keyboard still wouldn't. This is after my display sleeps - as long as I continue to use the computer, everything works fine. I have a mid-2009 Mac Pro 2.66 GHz quad-core (Nahalem) but with the older (clear, G5) keyboard and a mighty mouse.

I type a word, and my fingers are faster than the display time. This is particularly noticeable when backspacing and correcting typos. anyone else experiencing this problem? I was able to jailbreak my iPhone and everything was okay. Earlier today I used the comuter and it was okay. Othing seemed wrong.
