View 24 RepliesMy old 120GB hard drive seemed to be flaky, and I needed the increased capacity, so I upgraded to a 500GB hard drive on my white MacBook. Install was not hard at all, I formatted and partitioned the drive, but I can't seem to install MacOS X (10.5) on it from the DVD's that came with my MacBook. It will boot to the installer DVD, allow me to select the hard drive, and starts the install. However, each time it ends with something along the lines of "Error verifying Essentials package", and advises me to contact the software manufacturer. (Strange that it advises contacting the "software manufacturer" rather than "Apple."). The DVD is pristine, no evidence scratches. I also had problems earlier performing an Archive & Install on the old drive, but I thought this was because it ran out of room. I can also boot the MacBook through my old drive, attached to a USB enclosure. Can that drive be used to install a new system?

Is it necessary to have antivirus software installed on the Mac using 10.7.3?Â

I just heard about Flashback and wonder if my computer (or possibly iPhone) is infected. My iTunes account was recently hacked and I received over $70 in charges for purchases I did not make. I was told that Flashback can and does hijack usernames and passwords. I installed and ran iAntiVirus but it didn't pick up anything. I also have an iPhone and an iPad that I access my iTunes store from quite frequently.

What is the best antivirus software for a Macbook Pro...I recently received a message from Google that someone made an attempt to hack into my mail account and I needed to change my PW and verify myself as the user. The message suggested that I run a virus scan to check for sny malware or other types of viruses. I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem..

I have a macbook with OSX 10.5.7 and 4gb ram. Having fallen victim to the current scare tactics out on the web, I downloaded and installed PC Tools's iantivirus. All went well with install. About half way through the initial system scan, iantivirus hung up and locked my system. I had to do a hard power off with the power button. Now, my mac will not boot past the Apple logo. I don't even get the spinning wheel. I have booted to my install disk and ran disk utilities and everything checks out ok. I reset the pram and removed the battery and power supply and held the power button down for 10 or so seconds. Nothing. After several minutes, the system restarts and the cycle begins again. I cannot get into safe mode.

I tried ripping my DVDs onto my macbook and I keep getting a msg saying that it needs 64-bit VLC to rip the dvd? So I go to the link and on the VLC media player download section it says: Note: VLC will not be available for 64-bits Intel-based Macs until further notice. You can safely use the 32-bits package instead.

I have located the folder in which it was installed, but I can not find the uninstaller.
In the Terminal, I can see that someone has been using FTP in order to download the packaged file, and subsequently ran the ./Config command to install it.
I have checked the iroffer website on how to uninstall, but nothing comes up.
Anyone know what I can do?
My computer is stuck on updating software Leopard for last 6 hours. It shows 99% done but process is not ending and update not completing.. Can I just hang up and reboot.

Installer is unable to open the package. This is likely due to Install framework's runner executable not having the proper ownership and/or permissions.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLeopard Verifies the DVD goes to install then I get: "The installer could not validate the contents of the "basesystem" package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Initially I was trying to upgrade - didn't work. Was unable to boot into anything. Erased HD still didn't work. Verified disk etc., before installing. Machine patched up to date. Running IMac core 2 duo gb ram.

I'm interested in some numbers and figure this place is a better forum for collecting this data than, say, the apple store.

This PKG makes snow leopard able to be installed on Windows PC's. I'm trying to do this on my PM g4 400mhz running 10.3.9. Or would it work better on a eMac? .
Trying to change some icons in Leopard. Doing it the manual way, not with candybar. I went into the dock package contents and change the finder icon and trash empty and trash full. I deleted the cache, killed the dock, even rebooted yet it always defaults back to the original leopard icons. If I go back in to the package contents, the new icons I want to use are in there. Having the same issue with all the icons that need to be changed via package contents. System Preferences, VMWare Fusion, and the ones above.
