View 1 RepliesI have purchased a Macbook Pro back in August of 09. I didn't intend to move back to Europe, but it happened. I have been sorta reluctant to buy Apple Care back. However in the lights of what recently happened in my daily life, I may use Apple Care for my uMBP. I would like to know if this is possible to buy Apple Care Protection plan for a machine purchased in the States. I know the terms applied are global, but I have my reserves as to buying AC outside of the country/region where the purchase as occured.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBought my IMac a year ago, got the applecare plan and am good until 2014; however, it would be great if I could renew my applecare plan after the initial plan. or just before, the plan expires. The applecare staff is great to deal with, but it's a nice feeling to know that I can access them after the first 3 yrs. of ownership. I bought my IMac with the knowledge that I wouldn't need to upgrade my hardware as often as I did with a PC, and although I understand I can still recieve assistance on a case by case basis, it would be easier, and more cost effective, to have the option of extending my plan if I choose to. Just a thought. and am hoping that Apple will listen and offer something for its customers like this. Am an owner of the IMac, and IPad2, Ipod touch and will be buying an IPhone 5 when they are released.

First I would like to say hello to everyone and soon I will (finally) enter the Mac world. I've been a 50-50 type of guy (Apple/Microsoft) and I had the majority of the multimedia Apple products without actual Macs though. I was tempted to buy a MacBook before but I always wanted something sleek, sexy yet with a good sauce of performance since I am not a heavy usage type of guy and for gaming I will be getting a 360 Slim later on. Finally that day has come and I will be buying the ultimate 11". Question is, is it worth the extended Apple Care plan? I searched for answers on the official Apple site, googled up for a couple of days but I didn't find exactly what I wanted. Does it cover (for example) accidental damage? Or what are the real advantages of having an extended Apple Care plan? Since it will be my first Mac I will want to take extra care with it.

I purchased the ati 5770 video card upgrade in anticipation of moving my household to HD. Yes, I knw it's been out for awhile, but I had invested in DVR's and so on and wanted to get my money's worth befor addopting new technology. Anyway, poped in the card, booted up, everything is fine. Then today I get an HD video and instead of playing I get a message about my display not being compliant This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). I was all set to purchase the 27" apple display, but if it's not going to play purchased video, what's the point? If I had a mini display port monitor attached would it play? Or am I going to get the same error message?

'Ive had a MacBookPro for about a year and a half - with zero problems to report. But, yesterday, I decided to do a software update for OSX. While waiting on it, I relaized I was running late for an appointment, got impatient and did a forced shutdown (stupid move, I now know). Anyway, upon restarting it, I get the usual start-up chime, then the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel - and then it stays there. I tried putting the operating syten disc in and did a start-up - same results. Ditto for safe start. I also tried to reset the NVRAM, got the second chime, then back to the same. Is there anything you folks can suggest? Is there a way to override this and get back to normal? I hope I'm merely having hiccups related to the operating system. Or could this be a sign of the dreaded logic board failure that I fear?

So my MBP was really making horrible clicking noise and I figured out that my start up Lion OSX disk partition is corrupted. I have three partitions. One for Lion OS X, another for Documents and another for Movies and Downloads. When I run disk utility and verify other two partitions(documents and movies/downloads), they appear to be okay but when I do the same with Lion OS X then it says:
The volume Lion OS X was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.Error: This disk needs to be repaired....then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. Is my hard drive gonna die soon? Or will it be okay if I just format my 500gb hard drive completely and install the fresh copy of Lion OS X again? I don't have a recovery disc or what so ever provided by Apple anymore. I have a DMG installation file of Lion OS X and a USB flash drive(4 GB approx). How can I repair the disk partition without the recovery start up disc?

I believe that is the one without WD's free fall sensor (or whatever it is called)?
I can get a very good deal on it (41€). I plan on copying my stock 250GB Toshiba drive 1:1 to it with Carbon Copy Cloner.
Would this drive be good?
I don't have an external harddrive.I don't have a time capsule I do use an Airport Extreme (but it's my roommate'sI use DropBox (got 11GB free space) and I have a FTP for a website that I run. Is it possible to install CrashPlan then somehow redirect the directory of a folder on my desktop to my FTP and have CrashPlan back it up to the FTP weekly?

View 3 Replies View RelatedQuestion, i have been trying to find a Marketing Plan software for mac and I have been unlucky
I found this: [URL] which is the windows version, and was wondering if anyone can give me a few pint pointers as to where I can find a similar MAC app.
So I'm switching over to a Mac and I'm thinking about data backup and recovery. I've got a new MacBook Pro and I'll be connecting a 1Tb external drive for Time Machine. I will also use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to do a clone backup once a week to a separate external drive that I will leave locked up at work (offsite). But...
If my laptop were to die and I have to get Apple to repair it, I understand that I could be without my computer for possibly weeks. How can I get to my data if I don't have another Mac at my house? Are the clone backups of CCC or SuperDuper accessible through Windows, at least to pull out individual files?
In my Windows world, I always have a couple of computers laying around and if I lost a computer (or drive) it was no big deal to just access a backup image I created with Acronis from another computer and pull out files I needed to work on.
I need to 'draw' a 'top down' view plan of a room in my house.
I think I could use Microsoft Visio on my XP laptop, but I want to be able to do it on my iMac. Any suggestions of applications that will enable me to do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThough users of older Intel-based Macs were led to believe they would have to spend $169 to migrate from Tiger to Snow Leopard, new reports state the $29 upgrade disc will work just fine.
In his review of Snow Leopard, Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal, Mossberg reveals that those who have been hesitant to upgrade their Mac will be able to take advantage of Snow Leopard's bargain price, without the need to install the intermediate Leopard operating system first.
"For owners of Intel-based Macs who are still using the older Tiger version of the Mac OS, Apple is officially making Snow Leopard available only in a "boxed set" that includes other software and costs $169," Mossberg said. "The reasoning is that these folks never paid the $129 back in 2007 to upgrade to Leopard. But here's a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140."
Wired also confirmed that they were able to upgrade a system directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. In addition, it is possible to completely erase a hard drive and install Snow Leopard without a pre-existing operating system in place, enabling users to bypass the possible headaches of an upgrade and go with a clean install instead. Wired said many users upgrading from Tiger should probably consider backing up their files from Tiger and doing a clean install instead.
"Of course, the transition isn't guaranteed to be as smooth as it would be from Leopard to Snow Leopard," the report said of the Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade, "and that's because some older, Tiger-only third-party applications need to be upgraded to newer versions that work with Leopard or Snow Leopard."
Originally released in April 2005, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is more than a little long in the tooth at this point, especially considering the astounding success of its follow-up, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
will be getting my new Air on the 27th. By the mean time, I am looking for a protection like Wrapsol for the new Air. Do you guys have any alternatives?

When I buy my Aluminum MacBook for college, I want it to stay in the exact same condition as I bought it in.
What I'd like to do is apply a full-body InvisibleShield to the MacBook, and then put it in a Speck or Incase hard case. After those, I'd want to store it in a Neoprene sleeve for when I travel across campus with it in my backpack.
My question is, can I do all of this? I want the hands down, absolute best protection for my huge investment while still maintaining the amazing aesthetics of the notebook itself.
However, I don't know if the MacBook would still fit in any of the hard cases once I've applied the InvisibleShield. Does anyone have this particular or a similar configuration?
i got my macbook pro a few days ago and i'm enjoying it. the only concern i have is that it might get a virus and and i don't want to put 1.5k of US dollars to waste just like that. i always thought a mac could never get a virus so thats why i bought it but i read that there is a chance that getting a virus might happen. so i am wonder should i pay for a virus protection or does it already come with a virus protector and i don't have to worry?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm brand spanking new to the Mac world, just bought my 15" MacBook Pro last week and so far loving it.
However I'm going to be mainly resting it on my coffee table which has some hinges on top, and it seems inevitable that eventually the bottom of the laptop will get scratched.
I started researching skins to buy, and there's such a wealth of info and opinions on these forums and on the web that I'm still clueless what to get. I read more bad than good reviews about the Speck.
