MacBook Pro :: Its Stuck On Spinning Wheel, Apple Logo - Not Responding To Disc?
'Ive had a MacBookPro for about a year and a half - with zero problems to report. But, yesterday, I decided to do a software update for OSX. While waiting on it, I relaized I was running late for an appointment, got impatient and did a forced shutdown (stupid move, I now know). Anyway, upon restarting it, I get the usual start-up chime, then the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel - and then it stays there. I tried putting the operating syten disc in and did a start-up - same results. Ditto for safe start. I also tried to reset the NVRAM, got the second chime, then back to the same. Is there anything you folks can suggest? Is there a way to override this and get back to normal? I hope I'm merely having hiccups related to the operating system. Or could this be a sign of the dreaded logic board failure that I fear?

MacBook Pro :: Stuck At Apple Logo (no CD Boot Either)
I have a major problem with my first Generation MacBook Pro. It won't boot anymore: it just turns on and gets stuck at the Apple logo. There is no spinning wheel and nothing else happens. Pressing 'C' for booting from CD or pressing ALT and choosing the CD as an alternative boot source does not work either: it just does exactly the same, gets stuck at the apple logo. I already tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM, as well as the SMC. This also did not change anything. CMD+V mode starts up then stops at the line "ACPI: System State [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3)"

What can I do? I really need to save my Mac, there is some really important stuff on there

MacBook Pro :: Won't Boot Up - Stuck At Grey Apple Logo - With Gear Spinning?
I was playing around with iWeb 09' trying to make a better website for my company... when all of a sudden it wouldn't load from the tool bar it would bounce up and down once or twice and nothing would happen. I then by mistake put the file on my desktop then wanted to get rid of it so I dropped it into my trash. oops! Well then everytime I clicked on iweb it would say file is damaged or incomplete. So when I got home from work I decided to try to reinstall the application with the app disk that came with my computer.

Well instead of being patient and figuring out how to install just the iweb app. I reinstalled the whole bundle !! oops again... I know I don't deserve to be a mac user !! but I've fell in love!! OK now the install finished and it asked me to restart now so I did ... and this is where I'm stuck... It restarts and goes to the apple grey screen with a small bar that starts to load and then disappears and gets stuck at the spinning gear. I've manually ejected the disc by holding down the trackpad. And I put in the os x disc and tried to get into setup by holding down C after I hear the chime and until I see the spinning gear and that doesn't pull up anything!!

MacBook :: (2008) Won't Boot / Work - Stuck On Gray Apple Logo Screen
For several weeks, my black MacBook (2008) has been acting odd. Certain applications won't open, and when I attempt to open them, the computer makes a quiet clicking noise, like the drive is failing. Last week, when trying to boot it, the thing just wouldn't. Stuck on the grey Apple logo screen. Assuming a hard drive problem or failure, I ran the tests. I ran Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard install disk, checked & repaired permissions, checked & repaired disk. All okay. I ran the Apple Hardware Test from the install disk that came with the computer, using the test that runs for an hour or so, and all appears to be fine. The computer won't boot into safe mode. I've tried flashing the PRAM. I doubt I could achieve much through target disk mode, as I've already run Disk Utility. What's left to do? Something doesn't add up here.

OS X :: Can't Boot From Leopard Install - Gray Screen Without Apple Logo?
So, today I tried to install windows through boot camp assistant on my mac. When it got to partitioning my drive I got an error that my hard drive needed repairing. So I opened up disk utility and clicked verify disk (I can't click repair) and got this error Disk Utility stopped verifying Chris Hard Drive because the following error was encountered: Filesystem verify or repair failed. I then researched this and learned to fix the problem I must boot from my leopard install disk and use the DU from their. Unfortunately I don't have access to the disk. But I have the install disk from my old macbook (the white one) so I used this. I put in the disk and shut down. When I turn it on I hold C but all I get is a grey screen but with out the apple logo. When I try turning it out holding alt I don't get the option of the CD just Chris Hard Drive. But when I boot up holding D i do get to the hardware test screen but I get the error that's something like "Hardware test does not support this hardware". Will the Leopard install of a different type of macbook not work on my new macbook pro (13" aluminium)?

IMac Intel :: Install Disc Stuck In Drive - System Refuses To Boot
I've had my 24" intel iMac for about a year and a half. Most of that time it's run 24/7 doing server duty. To date I've had zero problems. It has 4 GB of RAM and I'm running 10.5.8 right now. Starting last week with the latest Java update it started acting funny. All the web browsers became very slow and I got the spinning beach ball of death frequently, although never permanently. I use Safari, Firefox, and Camino. All three showed the same characteristics. Yesterday I got out of bed and the computer was off, much like after a power outage. It wouldn't start up when the power button was pushed.

I turned the power off at the surge protector, waited a couple minutes, then turned it back on. It started normally. It still had the slow browser issue. Last night I decided to do a clean install of Leopard on an external hard drive (My normal backup drive) then a combo-update and see if that fixed the slow browser issue. I wiped and zeroed the drive, then inserted the original system install disk. The install disk booted, but failed to install on the external hard drive. It gave me a "Damaged install disk" error. "Clean install disk and try again." So I tried to shut down the system and eject the install disk to clean it and check for scratches (unlikely. I'm anal about clean disks).

The disk refused to eject. Now the install disk is stuck in the drive, and the system refuses to boot at all. When I boot with the power button I get half of a startup tone, then it's cut off. A few seconds later I get another half of a startup tone and it's cut off again. This happens continually. The screen never lights up. I tried disconnecting the power and letting it sit for an hour, but it still has the same problem. No startup, and only partial startup tones. The install disk will not eject. I've tried all the standard remedies; Disconnect all peripherals, start up in target disk mode, start up in safe mode, etc. Nothing works. I assume I have a fatal hardware issue.

I own a 17" iMac Core 2 Duo. It has been crashing more and more lately. Now when I turn it on, it sits at the apple logo. The spinner does not appear. I tried new sticks of ram, and same thing. I can boot off a windows or Linux cd with the c key, but they freeze halfway through bootup. I ran a hard disk check also.

Intel Mac :: Stuck At Boot Logo?
Ok so i yesterday, i wanted to learn computer programming so i decided to download Xcode for mac (The latest one for snow leopard) Everything went fine and a little error pops up during the installation saying something about needing to reinstall soundflower(or something similar to soundflower) I ignored it and everything went fine, i could use Xcode without any errors. Today (after my dad and my sister used the iMac) the Mac went laggy with the rainbow spinning thing. I restarted my computer and now i am stuck on apple logo. I went to the verbose mode and this is what i've found.

There was a line saying systemShutdown false between the errors and the errors is still continuing.

I also tried holding shift for the safemode but it just went into restart loop until i let go the shift button

Intel Mac :: Boot Partition Error Message - Mid 2010 I7 Will Not Boot Past The Apple Logo
My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok.

OS X Leopard :: IMac Stuck On Apple Logo + Spinning Gear?
I was having some pretty serious problems with my iMac, so I booted off the install CD and ran permission repair and disk repair. Everything seems to be OK now (SMART dhows "verified"), except that I cannot start from the hard drive. The iMac knows it's there and I can select it as startup disk (using either "option" startup or from within the install CD). I have no idea why it won't boot tho. The only think I can think is that I accidentally had my Leopard upgrade disk in once (the iMac came with Leopard) and double-clicked "install." I turned the iMac off before it booted though, so I would assume no harm done.

When I tried to turn it back on it's stuck on the loading screen, and won't go into safe mode. I've tried booting without the iPhone plugged in but having no luck. Power Mac G5 :: Stuck On The Startup Apple Logo And Spinning Loading Wheel?
I have a power mac g5 with tiger 10.4.11 OS on it. I bought it a year ago second hand and it has been working amazing since then. But about two weeks ago I got that message on screen telling me to resart my computer and then after that I couldn't start my machine up. It kept on getting stuck on the spinning wheel at the start with the apple logo and if I leave it long enough, the apple turns into a no entry sign and the fans start to become very noisie. I have luckly been able to start my Mac up on some occassions so I have backed everything up on an external hard drive. I have also re-installed the operating system on there cause I thought it might have just been a disk error or somehing. Since I've re-installed everything, I haven't putall my applications back on. Only a couple so that I could create this web site. I also remember typing somehing into terminal before this all happened so I have a feeling it might be somehing to do with that but I have no idea what I typed in there but I'm sure it didsomething bad.

Intel Mac :: Not Booting Up - Stuck At Apple Logo Screen With Progress Spinner
My 24 inch iMac is not getting pass the apple logo. It acts like it's loading, but then the little progress spinner (not sure of the name) stops spinning after 2-3 minutes. It never wants to get pass that. I'm running the latest version of Lion.

Here's the specs:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS

So far I've tried using disc utility on my snow leopard doesn't load. I've tried to start in safe loads about half way and stops. Oddly enough windows xp works in bootcamp. It runs okay besides when I try to move windows. I'm guessing it's the graphics card. No idea really. Here is a video I made to show you what I mean: [URL]. I've also tried installing a new 1TB HD and it still won't boot from a disc for some reason. I tried install snow leopard through the internal superdrive and with an external superdrive. No dice.

IMac Intel :: Unable To Boot From Install Disc - Get Repair Disc Running From DU?
My iMac has been running a little slow the past two days and so I ran Disk Utility. DU reported that I had the incorrect number of thread records and an invalid volume count. It instructed me to repair the disk by booting from the install disc. The problem is that when I try to boot from the install disc (after I choose the disc from the options), I just get a gray screen with the apple logo on it. Nothing else happens, no disc activity, nothing.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to get my iMac to boot from the disc and, ultimately, to get Repair Disc running from DU?

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.

Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

OS X :: Install Disc 10.4.1 Gets Stuck
I have a mac OS 10.4.1 that began slowing down incredibly. It stalls and freezes at every step requiring emergency shut downs. I saved copies of my documents on a different computer ( by connecting it as an external hard drive to another computer using a firewire and pressing T). I have run through a disc utility and found that the memory is unaffected- was told to archive and install my start up disc anew. when i put the install disc 1 in the drive it pops up a screen that says " do you want to restart your computer to reinstall the disc" Once i press restart it freezes and gives the following message: panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerBook6,5". a bunch of code type stuff then at end "panic: We are hanging here..." The disc does not eject and neither the restart nor the reinstall happen. I figured out that if I force shut it down and restart it holding the mouse button it will eject the disc. I have done this numerous times and the same thing happens over and over again. Any advice on how I could perform this reinstall?
