Intel Mac :: Number Keys On Keyboard Don't Work?
Feb 9, 2012The 1 to 9 keys on the top part of my keyboard stopped working.The ` 0 - = keys all work fine. It is a wireless keyboard (model no. A1314) without a number pad on the side. Nothing has been spilled on it. I have tried it on another Mac and it does not work there either.

Only the number keys on my keyboard are malfunctioning besides the number 0. For example when I press 1 it appears as q1. When I press 2 it appears as w2.
I am not sure if I accidentally pressed something on my keyboard that has changed the functioning of my number keys. I've tried fidgeting with the keyboard settings in System Preferences and holding down the f6 key but nothing has worked.

Today I've started the OSX up and the number keys on the keyboard were not working anymore... The weird thing is that the whole keyboard is currently working except the keys from 1-9 (even the Zero key is working as usual) and I have to use the virtual keyboard to type them...

Sep 25, 2009So back in May all of a sudden my Delete key stopped working well, I had to press it twice basically to get a response. I also noticed that my tab key and my space key didn't work either, as well as my right arrow and my up arrow. All summer they worked fine, and now that school has started again they don't work well. Sometimes they don't work at all, sometimes space but not delete, sometimes they only work when I press twice, etc.
I brought this up in May and people said its keyboard failure and that I need to back everything up before I can't use my laptop. I disagreed, since if it was laptop failure it wouldn't be just 5 keys. I was right and here I am many months later. I crackedopen my(crap.there.goes.thespace.key.not.kidding 0) and every thing seemed ok. I closed it back up and now I am making this topic. What could be causing my TAB, DELETE, SPACEBAR, RIGHT ARROW, TOP ARROW, to not work, sometimes. Sometimes it works perfect for days/weeks, and then all of a sudden works 50% or not work at........

May 9, 2012I purchased a used aluminum MacBook Pro a couple years ago, and about 6 months ago the 9 and a couple function keys stopped working. However when the computer gets to a certain temperature they start working again. Does the keyboard just need to be replaced or is it something else?

Jun 4, 2014The media keys on my MacBook Pro (retina, 13-inch, late 2013, OS X 10.9.3) don't work anymore with iTunes. All other function keys work. All other function keys continue to work when "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is selected in System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard, but F7, F8, and F9 still do not do anything. I have not found a way to map them either.

Apr 16, 2012My Macbook is only about a year old and the tab key, the numeral one key, the tilde and screen brighter key (not the dimmer key) have all stopped working well. They are non-responsive for about ten minutes after I open/start up, and then start working intermittently once the machine has warmed up. I clean the surface of the keyboard regularly and none of the other keys seem to be having a problem.

Aug 1, 2009I have a new MBP 13" and it's been amazing so far. I just experienced this odd issue a few hours ago when I went to lower the volume from my keyboard. In doing so, it didn't alter the volume's level, but launched the actions from the keys on top-left side. Most of the keys in the middle don't even work at all. I tried restarting the MacBook and I'm still experiencing the same problem. It seems that all of the keys on the keyboard are just fine, with the exception of the very top row. Any clue as to how I can fix this and get the keys to do what they're supposed to?

I know I didnt spill anything on it, because this happened on my sisters account on the computer, while mine still worked. Now mine doesnt work. I like using it, so Id like to gget it to work again.
When I try using the 10 numbers and the decimal on the keypad (everything else in that section of the keyboard works), the computer freezes, and i have to shut down.
Oh, and I recently started using the program Blender, and I noticed this problem during that program, so it might have something to do with that.

I did all the jumps to make sure on the system pref and the mouse off, holding my tongue just right and jumping five times...hitting the option key five times, the fn button and the clear button. the number work everywhere but on the calculator.

May 4, 2009I spilled coffee on my keyboard. Now, some of my keys don't work. Namely, my apostrophe key, the letter "p", my return key, and delete. Also both slashes. And my arrows, save for Mr. Right. My question is this: am I screwed? is there any chance I can restore function to these? I have a nice big bottle of isopropyl alcohol at my disposal and I can pretty much have my way with this thing. It's beyond warranty so, short of blowing it up, I'm not too worried about any minor damage I might do to it. anyway, if anyone can throw out some advice, whether it's "this is how you fix it," or "toss it through a window," I would be endlessly grateful.
