All of a sudden I restarted my computer and the dock didn't show up and the fonts for the clock and battery were different. The widgets also would not show up. Also missing was some of the icons for random programs (applications, illustrator, pictures etc.) I am thinking I might have deleted some of the systems files? In safe mode the dock and widgets work and the fonts are correct however the icons are still missing.
I really need your help with this one. I was changing all of my folder icons and for some strange reason the Downloads icon will not change and now wont even appear. Please see attached screenshot.I have done the following to try and fix this problem:
1. Used LiteIcon and Candybar but both weren't able to fix the problem.
2. I went to /system/Library/coresevices/coretypes.bundle/contents/resources and the correct downloads icon does appear. It just wont appear in the Finder Window.
3. I have rebooted, logged in and even did a system cache clear and still nothing.
4. Tried to change it manually with the Command I and copy and paste with changing permissions. Nothing worked.
After updating my OS X which brought Safari up to 5.1.7 the saved links I had in my dock are blank. Even though i can click in that area and the pages will load. I can't figure out how to fix this.   Also, when I drag a link from the address bar to the desktop the icon that appears is nothing more than a blank white page. Â
A couple of weeks ago I had a mess by copying fonts on /Mac HD/Library/Fonts. I Used Lynotype Font explorer to "Clean" my system folder. The problem that I have found is that it has erased (or I Have Erased) some of the files thst should be on this library/fonts folder.
Now Im getting a lot of Not found files. Doing a Spotlight search I connot find the files in My HD. Checking one by one from a list published by someone in this place I have manged to identify at least 15 without even getting to the letter D.
The question is... Is there a way to "Reintall" this fonts from the DVD's without having to reintall my whole operating system?
I recently installed a couple font management tools and ever since I have noticed that I don't have the full list of default system fonts. Below is a screenshot of what I have. I notice that there are a lot of missing fonts that should be there such as Georgia, Trebuchet, Verdana and many more. Is there a way to reinstall them or restore them? I tried the restore Standard Fonts option in Font Book but says no problems encountered. I also downloaded a program called Pacifist but don't know what to do next.
Sometimes when I restart my machine running 10.5.8 my desktop background appears but my dock, top menu and desktop icons do not appear. If I force a shutdown and restart, everything comes up normally. This doesn't happen every time I restart, but it has started only recently. I've repaired permissions already.
I booted my new 2009 iMac this afternoon and when it came up there was no taskbar across the top. I could not click on the icons on the dock either. the mouse worked and the desktop was there. I have a mouse on my Logitech keyboard and it worked so I know the keyboard did. I had no way to shut down so I held the button down till the machine powered down and it did in a second or so.
I waited about a minute and booted back up again and all came up like normal except the hard drive was running like crazy and the machine was super sluggish. After about a minute the hard drive quit running and all seemed normal.
I shut down like normal and then shut off the surge strip machine is plugged into to have a total power cut. Let sit about 2 minutes powered back on and booted machine and it booted like normal and acts perfectly normal. What caused the anomaly???
Never done it before and machine is about 2 months or old or so. Bought it as soon as new iMac's were released this year. It is the flagship 3.06 iMac. Bone stock. It has all the latest updates. Running 10.5.7
I've been experience intermediate issues ranging from not showing icons standard in OSX (such as in my shared devices, HardDrive icons tha tmount on the desktop, etc) this is a unibody 2.4ghz i got in February that came with 10.5.5 and used combo updates on each update...ive done a blank install from scratch with nothing on it and i still experience the missing icon issues that dont happen on other unibody mbps i use ??
((the other macbook pro im connecting to is an identical model 2.4 and the other one is a unibody 17, they display the proper icons under 10.5.7, unlike shown below))
My system gets random freezes even when nothing but the browser, word or small applications, it will beachball for aboud 30seconds to 2minutes even after a clean install and a combo straight to 10.5.7 any ideas on these issues? Am I the only one who is having these missing icon issues...even after a clean isntall with the original OSX Install Discs?
Since installing Lion, the icons on my system preferences pane have all changed to the same icon as the system preferences app. i.e just the cogs.how this may have happened and how I can revert back to the standard images please? The selections are all there, but all showing the same cog image.i have seen some previous discussions about removing apple.com/preference panes cache but I dont have it in my Library.
I've cleared the preference file and system prefs/spotlight caches with no luck. Repaired permissions. It seems the Music icon is holding up the others. If I re-arrange them they break only after "Music." This is in the console after opening the preference pane:Â
3/8/12 1:18:15.593 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Music 3/8/12 1:18:15.594 PM System Preferences: Rebuilding icon cache. 3/8/12 1:18:15.773 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for MusicÂ
and earlier,Â
3/8/12 12:33:33.922 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Applications 3/8/12 12:33:33.922 PM System Preferences: Rebuilding icon cache. 3/8/12 12:33:34.111 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for MusicÂ

I've been using Candybar but $30 seems way too much for me to buy. I know I can change the recycling bin and Finder with copy and paste but this doesn't work for iChat for example. Are there any good alternative programs or ways of doing this?
fonts must be messed up in Snow Leopard. Some system things display strange fonts. For example, my user name in upper right hand corner of the screen doesn't look right.ALso, the font on the "tabs," in Safari is not correct, and I can compare it to other SL computers.
I'm having more problems with my new MAC than I ever did with any PC! I loaded new fonts onto my MAC today and now when I go into Safari and browse the internet, all of the fonts on any website I go into have been changed into some ridiculous font! Why would this happen and how do I restore the default font settings?
I assume this must have to do with my recent software update (installed today)
Now, when I open my email and many web pages - notably google, it seems as if the default viewing font has changed.. even the text on the "submit" buttons and things like that has changed...
and whats worse is the new font is barely legible. I don't have any idea what has happened or how to fix it... can someone please help, this is really annoying!
A friend passed on a G4 laptop with a very weird problem. My own mac will never be updated beyound 10.3, the version on this laptop looks like 10.4.
All system fonts have changed. Some windows are still okay, like About this Macintosh. As for the rest all are the same capital A with a square around it. I know OSX won't let a user change the system font like Classic did. I read Tinkertool most likely won't do the job. I verified and repaired the permissions. Tomorrow I'll try MacJanitor and Onyx. I'm not comfortable with the Terminal. I do not yet know if another user on this laptop, which isn't created yet, might have the same problem.
Any idea how to solve this? Ever heard of a similar problem?
Over the last few days I've noticed a problem with missing icons. It seems to mainly effect icons in the Trash but I have one or two missing icons for videos and apps within the Finder and on the Desktop. The icon is completely gone - I have to click on the filename to select it. Quicklook works OK (for video).
I can't think of anything I've installed that would have done it except Onyx, but I haven't run that in weeks. I did repair permissions a few days ago but I doubt that could break this. It persists after a reboot. I can't get it to happen on command, it just randomly occurs. Creating a New Folder always works OK.
I just noticed that the fonts of some of the italicized words in a few pdf documents have been changed. This just happened suddenly for no reason. Does that mean my Mac has been hacked or Apple has changed something on the previewer (version 4.1, 469.2.2) which came with Leopard? I also noticed that the wireless network connection has been very slow for the past two days.
My System fonts seem to be the default, however using other programs the font is different. For example: How can I get rid of this? I have not installed any new fonts or anything!
I am having trouble with fonts in safari, in the advanced menu --> special needs --> never use fonts smaller than. I cant change this font, its locked to zero. What can I do? I got the latest version of safari. I've tried downloading safari again but can only download version 4, and that version cant be installed it because there is a later version installed.
First off, I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer -- sorry if I missed something.Just got a new machine running 10.6.3 -- ugh, the dock and folders and so on look like clunky Windows junk :-(I miss my simple, elegant 10.4.11 dock ...I don't want to add novelty icons or that kind of thing, I just want a borderless dock that's semi-transparent or clear. And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.
I just got a new 13 macbook pro and am loving it and for some reason, the icons and fonts are resizing, is it something i am doing without realizing or what?
I have run into after installing Snow Leopard on my machine. It is really the first complaint I have since I put the OS in on the 28th and I am just having time to sit down and toy around with it and I discovered this issue.
When I was playing around in a few Adobe applications, specifically Flash, it warned me when opening a project that I was missing a few fonts form the project and that they would be substituted.
Going into my font Library I looked for the fonts that it said were missing and confirmed that they STILL EXISTED in the folder. After double checking, I realized that a lot of my fonts were missing from the application.
After opening Word 2008, I noticed that a lot of my fonts missing from Word as well. I shut down Word and tried rebuilding the Font Cache by dragging the Word font cache file out to the desktop but Word did not rebuild it's font menu with the missing fonts.
Here's where it gets interesting. When opening an Apple application like Mail, all of my fonts that are present in the font folder show up. This is INCLUDING all of the fonts that are missing in Adobe and Word. Opening a program like Adium also shows that all of the fonts are there.
The display on the Mac computer at my work has been changed so that all the icons are very tiny, the fonts are very large, and when I move the mouse, the entire screen moves so that most of the time a part of the screen is hidden and I have to jiggle the mouse around to read everything - I'm not scrolling, it just automatically does it without me clicking. I am not really familiar with Macs but I do know how to get to system preferences, and I can't think what option might make the screen do that. It really makes the computer harder to use - does anyone know what it is? I also didn't see where I could make the icons bigger or smaller, it doesn't seem like the Desktop/Display really does it.
Now I've updated my MBA with 10.7.3 and I've seen that all URL icons (html, url, ecc) have changed with a document with the Safari logo instead the classic icon with '@' [URL] How can replace this? Also in my iMac 27"....
My icon for Quickbooks, Skype and open office changed to a pencil, paper, ruler and will not open. Why did they change and how do I get my programs back?
I have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.
