I was trying to delete partitions on my hard drive to get it ready for a clean Yosemite install. All of a sudden the screen went grey and after a considerable amount of time I turned off the MacBook Air and then turned it back on. A grey screen with a folder and '?' showed up. I don't have much experience with Macs, but I know enough that something happened to the Boot files. I don't have any other Macs. Is there a way to make a bootable drive on a PC? I have saved HD images on a portable hard drive along with time machine backup...I was running Lion OS

First forum post, and my question: what items would you recommend for a Mac newbie or returnee thinking of buying a 64gb 11" MBA? Software that is small in size, free or cheap but very useful (esp. utilities, productivity, games and music/video). Accessories that are small, light, and a good value. I am particularly interested if the Apple Superdrive is the best out there for the money, and multipurpose usb/sd hubs.Another way of looking at it is, if you were buying a 4gb/64gb Air for a friend and had $200 to outfit it, what would be essential enough for you to include?

Macbook Pro (Early 2010) running 10.6.5 w/ 2.56GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB HD w/ 290GB free space.
There have been times when I'm just running iTunes and the wheel of death will come on, or i'm on Chrome or FF w/ 2 other programs running and will get the wheel again and will get locked for about 1-2min. Before I hadn't had too many problems on a different MBP with lower specs, this one is higher yet is slow. I don't understand what the problem is because I also monitor my CPU and when it locks up the CPU remain at normal. Also, flash has always been lagging on here but will freeze for 5-10sec while audio keeps playing. I possibly think it's the Hard Drive which is a WD Blue Scorpio w/ 5400 RPM.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a PC user (please don't flame me) but am getting ready to make the leap into a MBA which will be my travel laptop. Are there any resources that anyone can recommend on co-existing between PC and Mac. I'm told its no big deal to transfer files like Word, Excel and the like between the two, but quite frankly I'm a little nervous as this is my first venture into Apple. But the MBA just blew me away and now I'm pretty psyched. I've been lurking here a while and have learned a lot but need to get comfortable existing in 2 different worlds.

Love my MBA but couldn't resist the temptation to pick up an HP 10" netbook since the Amazon price was pretty cheap ($399). It's a nice little machine which I can throw in my briefcase. However, do a little bit of work on this ten incher and then open up the MBA, and suddenly my 13" MBA looks looks huge! Each machine clearly has it's role. The netbook is fine for my daily train trip to work and to shlep around. It would not accompany me on a trip or for times requiring a lot of work and certainly does not sit in the same universe of power as the MBA, but as Randy Jackson would say, "It's a'right". I think the MBA has won my heart.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the Unibody 17" MacBook Pro with 4GB Ram and a 500GB 7200RPM Seagate Hard Drive. Although the computer is fast, it is not as fast as the Aluminum iMac I used to have. I have zeroed the hard drive and installed everything from scratch but I still get the beach ball from time to time. It does not freeze but it is not as snappy as I would like. What could I do to make my computer faster?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to ask the guys that have 8GB of RAM in their mbp if it was worth it? Running my 17" mbp with 4GB of RAM via 24" LED ACD in dual monitor mode running 6 spaces and especially running VMware fusion just to run light programs such as access 2007 and excel seems to tax my 17" in the memory department.
The 17" still runs pretty good but I do notice that under activity monitor the memory seems to have a huge amount of page outs and the color wheel shows up once in a while. Would upgrading to 8gb of RAM be the remedy? Will it make the whole os that much faster? I would think so but I'd like some opinions, thanks.
I would just use my Mac Pro thats on my sig but I have it connected to my hdtv most of the time and use it through there. I'd like to use dual monitor with my notebook for my courses. I hate transferring school work data from the 17" to the mac pro on a daily basis.
Is this possible to make the GPU the default without having to log in and out?
