What are the main differences between these two computers, apart from the looks obviously? They're fairly similar in price and I'm unsure which to buy. I thought it'd be the graphics card but I looked and they're the same - I generally only use my laptop for the internet, doing work and watching TV but I'd like to be able to play some 3D games (like Sims 3, sad I know!).
I set up the icloud on to my computers, now I cannot connect my iphone to my computers, I get a err message saying it is drawing to much power from my computers, whats up?I didn't have this problem before and it is on both my imac and my macbook.
I am wondering if there is a way to make an external display automatically work as the main display when plugged into my MacBook Pro. I just picked up the stuff needed to be able to connect to an external display and it has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which has a higher resolution than my MacBook Pro built in display does and I'm wondering if there is a way to just basically have the external display work as the main display when connected to the MacBook. I know you can mirror which is what I'm doing now, but the problem with this is like I said it won't let me use it at its max resolution as it is different than the MBP's resolution and doesn't look as good because of it. I am wanting to basically set it up where it will be a desktop type when I'm at home and when I'm out, it will be a portable. I don't need a dual screen setup but would love to have it work that way if possible. So far the only way I can get it to work at the max resolution of the external screen is to have a dual monitor setup where the MBP is the main and the external screen is the 2nd screen and I really don't like that setup because of the way that the screen and the MBP sit by each other.
alright so i bought a 2TB External Hard Drive and i was wondering if we could you the hard drive as your main hard drive like the Mac system files ect...? because my current one (250GB is kind of small) compared to the 2TB
I have a white MB (early 2008). I'm going to be getting an external monitor soon with a native resolution of 1920x1200 - the highest that the MB's Intel GMA X3100 will support. I know that I can open System Preferences > Display and then click the little menubar and drag it to the other monitor to make it the primary. Here is the thing: I want to just use my 24" monitor and not use the MB's screen with it (I have an external keyboard and mouse).
Should I... 1. Use the two displays as an extended desktop and then (leave the MacBook lid open) just turn the brightness on the MB all the way off so the screen is black (no back light)? or... 2. Just close the MacBook and use it in clam shell mode? I watch Hulu and YouTube a lot which causes the CPU load to increase and fans to spin up.... do I have to worry about over heating? I would be using the 24" monitor exclusively all the time and then take the MB when I go to class. Will this just ruin my MB pre-maturely?
Vertex as main drive, so for OS and backup? Will using it this way slow it down significantly?I want to keep my late 2008 2.66/8Gb 15" Unibody, until Sandybridge models are released
I connected a external monitor onto my macbook pro and I want to know how do I make that monitor my main one? like move everything (dock, folders, and bar on top) to my external monitor?
I'm using my Macbook Pro as a desktop computer. It is connect to my 32" LCD TV through a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI and a DVI -> HDMI cable. All is working correctly, except that I don't want to use the Macbook display, I just want to disable it.I know I can just turn the brightness all the way down until there's no image, but this method won't properly disable the display. Another way is to close the Macbook, wait for it to go in sleep mode (white light blinks) and then move the mouse until the screen appears in the TV. This method really disables the main display (it no longer appears in the Displays pannel at System Preferences), but is a lot inconvenient. I don't want to have to close the Macbook everytime I boot my system and don't want to let the Macbook powered on 24/7, even in sleep mode. I like to just turn my computer off and then power it on whenever I need to.
I forgot the main password of my mac, which is why i cant use it at all.It gives me a hint but that part of the password is the only thing I remember the second half of it is what I've completely forgotten
I use a 4 yr. old MBA, the non wedge style thing with poor connectivity (just one USB connector). I am the only user and the MBA 98% of the time is hooked up to a LED cinema display (also about 4 yrs old) and connected to the LAN via the USB hub at the cinema display/Apple USB-Ethernet connector (4yrs. old, as you guessed). Recently, I had a memory defect which forced me to have the mainboard replaced (RAM is soldered to the main board with MBA's).
Since I got it back, the MBA is somewhat slow. It is extremely slow if I download large files via the ethernet/USB connection. Both cores of the CPU are loaded at at least 50%, the MBA practically does not take mouse commands any longer and opening windows or such is extremely slow. Basically you can have a few coffees during downloading! Would a reinstallation of the OS perhaps help? (10.7.4 currently) I also wonder if I would reinstall the OS from, e.g., the recovery partition, now would this delete all the programs I've installed (quite a few)? I should like to add that the above described behaviour occurs wih the MBA NOT running dozens of programs, just the little file transfer, nothing else.
When I press the power button the system stays with the image of the apple, and the "thinking" timer in the screen, but it wont proceed to the main frame, it is just stuck there.
I bought a new internal hard drive for my late 2009 MBP and have completely cloned my existing hard drive to the new one. When I use the new hard drive through an enclosure I am able to boot from this hard drive perfectly, but when I install it into my MBP it won't read properly or something. It loads to my home screen with my dock, but when I try to click something, it just freezes up and I have to restart to the same thing every time. Anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed?
got a real basic question to ask and you're gonna think im an idiot for asking...I just bought a 320gb western digital elements hard drive and want to reformat it so that its compatible for both mac and pc's. i intend to format it as NTFS-3G as it would allow me to use it on the 2 platforms without having the 4GB file size restriction that fat32 has, anyway.....
when I go to reformat my external hard drive in disk utility, I see my external hard drive to the left, and there's a "sub" hard drive as a child of the external hd listed uppermost. just wandering which one of the two do i select before going to Erase>Windows NT filesystem (NTFS-3G)>erase? Do I select the uppermost drive and erase that or the lower one? or both
How do I set up mailbox so that all incoming emails from my secondary gmail account bypass my inbox and go directly to a pre-labeled smart folder? Also, how do I send copies of these to my primary gmail account into a pre-labeled folder in that account; once again bypassing my inbox (primary reason is that I do not want to get all my work emails into my inbox but I need to have them connected to mailbox at the end of the day.

I am going on a gig for a company that has some systems that runs on Windows, I only have 128 GB on my computer, and with a few movies, pictures, Bento, MS Office, and a few utilities I only have 44 GBs available, I am afraid that if I install Parallels and Windows this computer will have almost no space for future files. Any idea of how much Parallels and Windows will occupy in terms of disk size? Any ideas of how to streamline OSX in order to leave more space available. I have used the search function, but I haven't found too many answers there.
I read a few posts that gave me the vibe that Apple basically rolls out a bunch of stuff with the same configuration, and when someone wants a machine with more horsepower, they take one of these out the stock components and put in the higher end stuff. Is this true?
I downloaded aperture on my macbookpro, I have a 3.06 processor but it sure runs slow now. Is this common or is there something amiss with my macbookpro?
I have recently gotten a new macbook pro, but I cannot sync my music that I bought on my phone because I have authorized five computers to my Apple ID already. However, I cannot access those other computers anymore. Is there a way that I can still deauthorize those computers, but keep the ability to play music on my new laptop?
I have a MacBook Pro runing 10.6.8. I have a small network in my house. I cannot see my windows computers with my MacBook Pro. The windows computers can see my MacBook Pro. What settings are needed for me to view the windows on my macBook Pro? Is there any thing I need to do to the windows computers?

I currently am running OS X 10.5.8. I am trying to set up my MB (and my sister's iMac) so that it can File/Print Share with the Windows workgroup that I have set up on my home wireless network. I have tried a few walk thoughts out there on the interwebz. So far the Windows machines see the Mac's and their respective public folders. However, the Mac's don't. However say if I am downloading something and I am choosing where to save it, the windows machines are shown. But they aren't shown under the shared menu when I open up finder from the dock. How do I set up the Mac(s) so that they will recognize the windows shared drives/folders? Currently the only windows machines on the workgroup is one running XP Pro SP3, and Win 7. All machines (including mac) are up to date.
I'm kinda' new to the whole audio recording process and I'm leaning more towards the 13' MBP bc the only difference between the 15' and the 13' is an optical in line. So, what does the optical line in do? And is it worth the extra $200 because i do not think 2' of monitor space is?
What is the best way to upgrade my main HDD? It's the 160gb stock drive. Can I do this and still somehow keep all of my docs that are on the stock drive?
On my external drive I installed 10.5.8 on it and I've only used it with my macbook pro for booting up. Is it possible to plug it into, for example, a mac pro and run the partition or does it only work with one machine?
