I have a MacBook with OS 10.7.4 and use Safari and the Wi-Fi connection to access the internet. The computer will not save Wi-Fi settings from one session to the next. When I start up only the left side of the menu bar is displayed, and does not show the right side containing the connection icons. It will not allow me to access System Preferences, will not load Safari, and will not let me make any configuration changes. When I shut down the computer (some times as many as 3 times) and start up again it shows everything and works OK. The network was created on an iMac which shows everything to be normal.
There is a problem of a periodic signal loss. The reason for this is the password reset network settings in the airport. It happens randomly during sleep. The system log says only connect and disconnect from the network. What may be the reason?
For some reason, approximately once a month, the Mac loses the wifi settings. This sends the clock back to January 1st and takes several attempts of reentering the network name and password before it is recognised again.
Also, the wifi settings seem to no longer be part of the keychain when that happens.
This is getting to be a pain. Does anyone know why this happens (it only happens on one of the Macs; others are fine)? What can I do to repair it for good?
I just got a brand new MacBook and I connected to my neighbors network (its ok with them) and now I bought a router and it works but every time I open my MacBook, it automatically connects to theirs and not mine. How can it forget a Network?
I have to work with two different Wi-Fi (at home and office) one of which uses DHCP and other requires me to manually enter IP address. Right now I have to keep on changing Wi-Fi settings (putting IP addresses when at office and setting to DHCP at home) whenever I go from home to office and then do the reverse when I go from office to home. Can I automate that so I don't have to repeatedly fiddle with settings?Â
I was wondering if there was a solar-panel type thing that you can leave out in the sun all day, then bring it in to charge you laptop during the night. The solar chargers I found online seemed to be only for active use (you plug your laptop in and it charges the battery in while you use it, extending the battery charge). Are there solar chargers that retain the energy they absorb? And if so, would they be powerful enough to charge a MBP (late 2008, so I don't have the 'wonder' battery).
I got a HP Photosmart C4380 all-in-one wi-fi printer and i want to set it up on my wireless network. so i plugged it in to my MBP via USB and ran the HP setup assistant that came with the printer.
at the first step it recognized my printer as being connected via USB the next step when its supposed to detect your wireless network i get this message that says your printer is not connected to the computer, connect via USB to save settings.
I just downloaded the PhotoSync app onto both my iPhone 4 and MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard). However, when I try to use PhotoSync to sync all my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro, I get an error message telling me to check my wifi settings - even though both of my iDevices are connected to the same wifi network. I get the same error message when I try to use PhotoSync to sync the pictures from my iPhone 4 to my iPad 2, as well.
I have a Time Capsule wirelessly connected to my iMac. Since I've encountered some problems with backups because of intermittent wifi connection failures, I want to switch to a wired connection with an ethernet cable. I know I could fiddle with the wifi channels etc. but since the TC is just sitting next to my iMac anyway, I could profit from the higher bandwidth of a wired connection as well.
Two questions: 1. What exactly do I have to do to make the switch? Are there any new settings I have to apply? Create a new network? 2. Will I still be able to use the wifi connection to get on the internet using my smartphone?
I can't seem to get DVD Player to retain and use saved zoom settings for all disks. I have a Standard Def TV and don't like large bars at the top and bottom of the screen, so I use "Standard Display - Widescreen Mode" so I tried to Save the opreset and clicking the "Use for All Disks" check box. When I insert another disk, the zoom reverts to "Normal" (unzoomed) mode. I've tried deleting the DVD Player plist file, but that has no effect. I also tried unchecking the "Video Zoom" box under DVD Player Prefs (Previously viewed tab/Always use Disk settings), but that doesn't let the preset be used for all disks. Basically, the Save Preset option seems useless unless you view the same disk again.
I have a friend who plans to put an HP Mediasmart server in his house to automatically backup his MacBook and PowerBook as well as centralize his pictures and songs. He currently has the two notebooks mentioned above, 2 iPhones, and 4 or 5 iPods.
Once all of the local libraries are emptied out onto the server I'm a little stuck for what to do. I know iTunes 9.0 will stream music to all of the devices in the house. But when he leaves the house with one of his devices he's got to take the music or pictures with him.
This presents me with a few concerns:
1. Is there a way to reset the license on each song downloaded from iTunes - kinda starting fresh - so that he can sync his music with any one of his devices without getting an error about the file not being licensed to use on a particular device?
2. Building off the question above - is there a way to legitimately remove the license restriction so he (and his family) can all have the same copy of a song on their personal device without having to fuss with the license restriction?
3. When they are going on vacation (for example) and they want to take music and pictures with them on one of the notebooks how do they do it?
4. On that same vacation when they take a bunch of pictures and download music while they're out how do they get the music or pictures off the notebook and onto the server where the master library is going to be?
5. Should iTunes and iPhoto be "pointed" to a "Photos" or "Music" folder on the server, is that the best way to centralize all of the music and photos?
I would like to eventually upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mt Lion, but I am concerned that my junction points will become invalid. This is my first Mac, and I am unfamiliar with the upgrade process. I do have Time Machine setup, but I'm worried that it won't retain my junction points. Will upgrading remove them, and if so, is there any way to back them up?
If I'm not at home I would like the MBP to lock the screen after 15 mins, but not while I'm home. So if my home-wifi isn't detected I would like the "lock screen" to be enabled. Is this possible?
I want to do a clean/fresh install of Snow Leopard tomorrow. I can deal with reinstalling apps, etc. but I really don't want to lose my iTunes library, mainly my play count. Crazy, I know, but hey lol.
What's the best way of doing a fresh install without losing it? File->Library->Back Up To Disk? Will simply saving my iTunes folder to an external, then copying it to the fresh install work?
Just added 11 tracks to iTunes and was sorting them via the info Tab, name of track artwork etc, when adding artwork to the tracks some tracks refuse to retain the picture. Seven out of the 11 tracks refuse to retain the artwork to be exact. I have never had this happen before so a bit confused at the moment
Unable to retain "short year settings" in Preferences > Language & Text > Formats. Â
Am able to set the year setting in the customize window to two digits with the pop-up menu for the year, which then appears correctly when the customize window is closed. However, after the Preference window is closed and re-opened, the year appears in 4 digits. The is occurring on one of the accounts. Â
The same procedure was used to set the date formats in the Administrator account, where it worked correctly.Â
As a DJ, I rely heavily on iTunes' file-viewing options "Date Added" and "Date Modified" in order to gauge how old files in my collection are. However, each time I move files from my computer to my external, 'date added' and 'modified' reset. Clearly 'moving' files to an external is really copying them to an external, but maybe there is a way to copy library content while retaining or freezing the iTunes library's DATA connected to the content....? Is there a way to get iTunes to realize that the identical files previously on my computer are on the external with respect to 'date added?'
Is it possible to install Lion on the guest account and retain Snow Leopard on my own account? Would this be an alternative way to partitioning the disk?
Just bought a new iMac and I'm not completely familiar with Lion yet. I cannot figure out how to get my browsers to retain user/pass information. When I am prompted to save U/P info from a site I click yes, but when I go back to the site the sign-in info is gone.Â
I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!
My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.
I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-  Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?Â
MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.
Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox. Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would. At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.
So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.
Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
I have a G5 Duel 2GHz Power PC, Recently I was losing the time, date and wireless settings so I assumed as my machine is now 4 years old the PRAM battery was up for renewal. This has now been replaced but I'm still losing my settings, not all the time but randomly, sometimes I lose my wireless key sometimes I lose time and date sometimes both, this can happen daily.
I have removed the (New) Battery and checked the voltage and it reads 3.6 Volts, I haven't checked this under load though, so presuming that the battery is OK, what else could cause this.. a failing System Board?
I've purchased my Mac book from a friend. It still has his name and password on which he cannot remember. Am i correct in assuming that if I restore it to the origianl factory settings then it will erase his settings. Also will i need anything erlse with the start up like serial numbers, auth codes etc?
I have an unsecured wifi network at home and need to easily share photos between computers. I have an iMac and a couple window based computer. Is ther an easy way instead of using a thumb drive?
I am using at home an iMac connected ( with cable ) to my Home WiFi Router. All other products are using the same WIfI home network ( Without a cable ).Can I define my iMac to use ONLY MY HOME WIFI instead of other unwanted wifi networks ?
