MacBook :: It Is Stuck In Sleep And Cannot Reset
Jun 7, 2012
I was working on my computer last night and stepped away. The battery ended up draining all the way. I pluged it back in and couldnot get it to restart. So I left it plugged in all night to recharge the battery. Woke up this morning to a full battery tried to turn it on but nothing happens except the sleep mode light turns on. Black screen and no functions. Pulled the battery to reset it still nothing. Put in a cd to see if it would wake up still nothing.

Today I noticed that my mid 2010 MBP is not automatically sleeping. I ran Apple's extended hardware test, along with TechTools Pro 5 from AppleCare disk. Both passed. Reset the SMC and PRAM. I'm still not able to auto sleep. Is there a way to see what exactly is causing my computer to not automatically sleep? Console messages or something?

A bit of a backstory: Recently my mid-2008 MacBook Pro stopped working. When I try to boot it up, the screen just stays black and the idle light flashes perpetually. I've reset the NVRAM and SMC, even attached it to an external monitor, but nothing works. After a lot of research, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the hall effect switch. But I digress; I don't actually need this computer repaired, as I have a second (newer) MacBook Pro I can use. However, there are some files on the old one that I'd like to retrieve. And yes, I've tried booting into target disk mode, which unfortunately doesn't work for reasons listed above. Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a way I could transfer the files off the old computer to the new one? I know, I should take it to the Apple store, but that's not really an option right now due to personal reasons.

When I run my macbook pros Battery down, there comes the low battery warning. After a while the system just goes down without suspending anything to my harddisk. When I restart my computer it does a normal start and after logging in I'm experiencing a lot messages due to the reset time. I correct my system-time and restart my mac and the system is back to normal.
Usually I'd say: Replace your CMOS-Battery (I know I have an EFI-Firmware), but where is it?. Or in other words: Is there a "System"-Battery, that would prevent my mac from forgetting the time?
Since I'm not running down my battery to 0 very often I only experience this issue from time to time and never took time to do anything about it.
iStats battery-Status says: Health:83%, Cycles:333, charge 50%...

I'm in a bit of a pickle.. I just tried to go and use my computer. I wake it and once my desktop pops up , I notice a strange black flash, now the screen is dark and the only sign of life is the sleep indicator light which is staying lit.
Nothing is responding
I tried holding down the power button, but for some reason I can't force it off, does anyone have any idea as to what else I could do to get it turned off?
No drops, no spills nothing!

I have an older but babied 2008ish Macbook Pro. Today upgraded my 3GS to os 4 with no problem. I downloaded a couple things but didn't go crazy today. I left work and shut lid. When I got home it was stuck on the screen saver password for a long time. I turned off the unit and now it just boots to a white screen. I can boot via OSX disc but it also doesn't see HD. This is a 500gb Seagate drive and I'm screwed if it's dead. Any suggestions to at least get to my bootcamp partition?

I have a colleague who is still running 10.2 (yea I know, time to upgrade, but they haven't felt the need for it yet I guess). Anyway, someone changed and forgot, or someone did it to be a jerk, either way they are unable to update any software or even log in. Just wondering how to rest the password. The computer is stuck on the log in screen currently and they can't access anything.

Starting a couple of days ago, my 2009 iMac won't sleep. I created another user and when that user is logged in sleep is working fine. This leads me to suspect that some of the user settings are clobbered and I need to reset them to get things normal again without having to reload the system. Can someone tell me what files I need to trash to get my user settings wiped out? Alternatively I could always do a fresh reload of the system and then just recover my last Time Machine backup of my applications but NOT recover my settings.

Often when I put my iMac to sleep in the evening I find the system unresponsive when I come to use it the next day. I can see instantly that the system has an issue because I see that the screen backlight is on. The system does not react to any mouse or keyboard input and requires a power off reset to restart.Â
I thought that the issue may involve Parallels which is often running when I have this issue , however, I have spoken with Parallels support who recommended removing parallels, repairing the disk permissions and reinstalling Parallels which appears to have had no effect.Â
The iMac is very new and was purchased in November 2014 and is configured with a 3.5GHz i7 processor, 16GB or RAM 3TB HD and NVIDEA 980 graphics card.Â

Second time since yesterday-My MacBook (White-2007) has been stuck in the sleep mode and the only way for me to get out of it was to force shutdown. (Pressed the power button for ~5 seconds.)
The white sleep light had stalled and was not blinking-Is this an indication of software problems, or that my harddrive is about to fail?

My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

My date and time resets each time my mac sleeps or is reset or if I open date and time options. It keeps sending emails of my old reminders from 2008/2009 from ical and my to-do list emails me its reminders. This happens every time I open my comp or even just open date and time options. I also get the ical reminder notification that pops up freezes on my screen. Not sure how this happened, but can anyone help?

My Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.
However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?

I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and I'm se as shown in the pictures (since i upgraded to os x yosemite) . It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

I have torrents going all the time. If the computer goes to sleep, the internet disconnects, so they stop. Display sleep wouldn't disconnect though. Is it OK to have computer sleep on "never" but keep display on "15 minutes"? I don't usually even leave the computer on overnight.

Recently I've started connecting my 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (pre-unibody) Macbook Pro 17" to an external monitor (via DVI). Â
Since then my computer goes into Safe Sleep instead of Sleep (it's plugged into power). Â
This is an annoyance I'd rather avoid because even if all programs relaunch:I have to wait for them to launch (longer)Programs like Excel seem to have been quit in an unorthodox fashion: when it starts back up I get an error notice that it was shutdown inappropriately & the doc which reopens is a rescued version of the doc I had open before the safe sleep.Â

In tiger you could easily disable safe sleep and remove the sleep image file but in Leopard this seems to have changed. Yes you can disable safe sleep & remove sleep image files but only temporarily. As soon as you restart or change energy settings back to default, leopard automatically reverts the safe sleep settings to default and starts creating an image file again
Is there no way to permanently disable/remove these?

I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

Sleep seems to have stopped working all of a sudden on my recently upgraded iMac. The only thing I remember doing was repairing disk permissions and changing a few iChat preferences.
The console shows the following;
kernel Sleep failure code 0x00000000 0x11000000
A reboot does not clear the condition

iMac (24 inch Early 2009, 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo, Lion 10.7.3) randomly goes sleep. No hot corners, never sleep setting.  It seems it goes to sleep more often when CPU is busy and graphic intensive jobs running (videos, gaming). I cleaned up air ways by vaccume, but it did not help.Â
Temp monitor showed
CPU 55C
power supply 95C
northbridge 89C
graphic processer goes up to 86C
when it went to sleep for no apparent reason./private/var/log/kernel.log says "Previous Sleep Cause: -100"

Recently I bought a new Mac and I'd like to gift my old Macbook Pro (running MacOS 10.7.4) to my wife, so she can renew her old Macbook (white, Core2 Duo generation, running MacOS 10.6.8).Â
The data and apps migration from my old Macbook Pro to the new one was smooth and faultless. But migrating data and apps from my wife's computer to my old Macbook Pro didn't. All the apps were transfered but not the data (no big deal) nor the Mail (the Apple's mail app) account.Â
As I didn't sign out the old Macbook Pro from iCloud or Mail, I guess there was a conflict when receiving the new data from my wife's computer. Obviously, I want to keep the old Macbook Pro along with MacOS 10.7.4, so I would't restore it.Â
