MacBook :: How To Reset A Mac All Over

Jul 4, 2012

Recently I bought a new Mac and I'd like to gift my old Macbook Pro (running MacOS 10.7.4) to my wife, so she can renew her old Macbook (white, Core2 Duo generation, running MacOS 10.6.8).

The data and apps migration from my old Macbook Pro to the new one was smooth and faultless. But migrating data and apps from my wife's computer to my old Macbook Pro didn't. All the apps were transfered but not the data (no big deal) nor the Mail (the Apple's mail app) account.

As I didn't sign out the old Macbook Pro from iCloud or Mail, I guess there was a conflict when receiving the new data from my wife's computer. Obviously, I want to keep the old Macbook Pro along with MacOS 10.7.4, so I would't restore it.

MacBook :: Password Lost - How To Reset

Nov 17, 2009

I have brought Macbook A1181 from ebay it works fine but there were two accounts but I don't know the password and when I try to get back to the ebay seller he is closed he is account. Also I have read the Mac website that I need to use the Code: If you don't remember the password and automatic login is turned off, you can reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X User Install disc. Because a user with the Mac OS X install disc can gain unrestricted access to your computer, you should keep the disc in a safe place. To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer.
2. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the spinning gear.
3. When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password.
5. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc.
But didn't received any CDs from him so I don't know what version of CD I need it also I am new to macbook so its fully confusing please somebody help me how to reset my password.

Mar 19, 2012

Can I reset my password (Without reinstalling, I'm sure that might be the general answer...)for installations? I am 100% sure I typed it in correctly both times, caps, no caps, and then tried another password, caps,  no caps. Both incorrect. It was recently fixed so they might have changed the password on re-installation.Is it best to email them if I can't fix it - easily - myself?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Reset MacBook Pro For Re-sale

Apr 2, 2012

I'm thinking of selling my 2010 MacBook Pro, which I bought with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. When selling previous Macs, I've deleted everything, including other user accounts and then re-installed the OS from the supplied CDs or DVD. This then leaves a new and pristine condition for the new owner to set-up as required. However, I'm currently using Lion, which is not available on a disk. So my question is, how do I get back to a new version of Lion ready for my Mac's new owner to set-up as their own?I've read on these forums about booting and holding down the Alt key in order to boot from the Restore partition, which hopefully has a bootable copy of Lion. Other threads suggest that I should Show Package Contents of the downloaded Lion file and burn the DMG to a DVD using Disc Utility. I guess that this will produce a software update disc and that the new owner will still need to boot initially with the Snow Leopard disc and follow the software updates until a point is reached whereby the new Lion disc will work.I want to sell this as having OS X 10.7.3 Lion - I've paid for the upgrade and wish to pass this to the new owner.
