MacBook Pro running Yosemite...seems to be running slow...best way to speed it up.

after months of going back and forth I finally went with an entry level iMac which is perfect in every way. I think... I don't remember the start up time taking almost a minute to cycle from the blank gray screen to gray screen with the Apple on it. Tuesday and yesterday it started up much faster (at least 30 seconds). ere's my some of the hard drive info:
WDC WD5000AAKS-40V6A0:

Native Command Queuing:Yes
Queue Depth:32
Removable Media:No
Detachable Drive:No
BSD Name:disk0
Rotational Rate:7200

The only thing I've done since Tuesday is add two songs in iTunes to test the cd-rom drive. I just ran the extended Apple Hardware Test and everything is fine. Given that my 20" refurb died within 3 months and I returned 2 iMacs prior that one, I'm a little nervous. Is this normal for a Western Digital hard drive to take nearly a minute start up from gray screen to grey screen with the apple?

A while back I "upgraded" to Yosemite and noticed my system ran slower and some web pages wouldn't load. I had Mountain Lion with less issues and less pinwheels. I went to YO to improve the slow loading but I now feel it is worse.
Should I return to ML or work out issues with YO? I've talked with a AppleRep a month back and did a PRAM reset and disc repair..My modem and router have been replaced without any notice in improvement.

I'm trying to put Window XP with bootcamp,
the CD is a bit long to load for the installation it's normal?
I have been having some problems with my MacBook Pro going slower and slower and then eventually grinds to a halt. I'm not sure what is causing it....Is there a log that will show me any memory leaks or at least what was using up the most memory/CPU at the time it freezes? a lot of times it freezes awhile after the screensaver kicks in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI could use a bit of help updating my macbook from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. I have 10.4.11 and i'm updating to 10.6, Snow Leopard. I've already checked basic requirements, backed up and i'm ready to install.I chatted with a apple specialist when I purchased the dvd for snow leopard and asked if it was what i needed to upgrade all three of my macs; 2 running 10.5.8 and one running 10.4.11. They said yes. I had no trouble updating the machines running 10.5.8.But the one running 10.4.11 isn't so easy. The trouble is the install DVD will not boot and just shuts down the hard drives (the machine says 'restartto begin install' but when i restart the dvd spits out on restart). Does anyone know how to get the disk to install? Mounting the disk didnt work either, it allows me to begin the installation but then the machine reboots.
I'd done some research previously and was told by Apple that i needed to get the Box Set in order to upgrade my machine running 10.4.11. However according to apple's support forums url... the Snow Leopard upgrade should work. I just don't know if there are special steps.

My new macbook pro i7 comes with Lion. I noticed it is slower than Snow Leopard (iMac) at my office. When I opened that same file that I worked on iMac which perfectly fine, sometimes crashed or loading very slow on Lion (mostly graphic files like PS or AI) I checked the Disk Utility n it said everything was fine. Or it supposed to b that way?

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and at the end of the upgrade the printer drivers failed to load. I have since updated them myself (Epson BX305) but still get an error message 'rasteroescpll failed'. I have an IMac previously running 5.8.0 and now running 6.3.0.

My late 2011 iMac started slowing down about 3 months ago. My hard drive then got corrupt and I restored to mac osx lion anew. It sped up a bit but still slow. Last month my iMac started doing the same thing so instead of restoreing I moves all of my files to an external hard drive. Now I rerestored once again but it didn't help. A prime example of the speed decrease is the game minecraft. Half a year ago I could run a server and run on the good graphics smoothly. Now I can even look around with only minecraft. It took me 30 min to turn on. I had to do this on my iPad because I mac couldnt make it here.

This morning my MacBook Pro will not boot to the normal Lion screen. Pressing the Alt key during the start process I do get to the Macintosh HD, Recovery HD, Choose Network screen. The mouse moves around, the keyboard works, obviously the screen works, it appears to connect to the network.  I did notice when I double taped on the mouse pad it didn't work. What should I do next?

Ever since upgrading to OSX 10.7.4, Safari has been very slow loading websites that normally are very fast. When I open Safari or load a page I get the spinning ball for as long as fifteen seconds. This is especially problematic when I initially open Safari in the morning after my iMac has been asleep for several hours.

My machine has 64 Gig RAM, 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon, and my main drive is a RAID consisting of 4 SSDs. What I notice is that the user response time (for opening new Finder windows and such) is slower when the Time Machine is backing up. It's not stuck - it backs up properly, but my user interface experience gets laggy when it's active. This didn't used to happen even on a much lower-spec machine (both were using WD external USB hard drives for the Time Machine backup). What can I do to keep the TM from slowing things down? I don't want to back up less frequently - I want the high specs of the expensive hardware to give me a wait-free workflow even while backing up, and I'm hoping there's a software-side solution to that. I know it's possible, since my old 10.6 Mac Pro machine didn't do that, and I would think with the good hardware, it should be faster.

if it is possible to upgrade the USB 2.0s on the MacBook Pro (2010) to USB 3.0s? I know the new Macbooks are dropping soon with 3.0s on em, and Instead of swapping out computers entirely, I am interested in upgrading my internals as far as I can, just to keep up with the curve and to increase my Macs performance. (2) will the new hardware work with Lion? Im not sure if there would be any type of hardware-recognition issues associated with the upgrade. (3) If not, would it likely work with Mountian Lion?Â
And Lastly (4), How is it done? Im sure its pretty straitforward after popping off the base plate and getting a look inside the Notebook, but Im actually going to purchace new RAM to increase the speed at which my Mac runs, and new USBs, and possibly even a boosted HDD to throw inside and Instead of taking the back off so many times, I kindof wanna do it all at once.I cant be the only one who wants to boost the USBs.Â

Since I updated to Lion PDF, JPG and TIFF files open up very slowly in PREVIEW. Same with RTF files in TEXTEDIT.  This is very apparent if the files are on a server in the network.Â

Since downloading the newest version of OS Lion (currently using version 10.7.3) when I use the trackpad on my MacBook Pro if I use two fingers and drag down that now makes the screen image scroll up and vice versa. Does anyone else have this problem? It feels backwards to me and is the opposite of how I used to use two fingers to scroll upd/down before upgrading this afternoon.Â

My MacBook Pro has been running quite slow ever since upgrading from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion 10.7.3. Applications were already very slow to quit in Snow Leopard but are incredibly slow in Lion. I often have to force quit.

last Friday I ordered my first Mac on eBay. The eBay description told me that there is no OS included. So I went to my local autorised Apple Reseller. When I asked for OS X Lion for my new Mac he sold me a USB-Stick. But not one of Apple's Sticks. It's a normal Transcend Stick. The package was already opened and closed again with scotch tape. He told me that I've only need to plug it in and Lion starts installing. The price by the way was the same as Apple wants for their USB-Stick in the Online-Store.But even if it's true that there is Lion on that Stick - what's with my license ? Do I own a real, valid copy of Lion ?

After upgrading to OS X Lion the machine after som hours do not respond at all to either mouse, spacebar or any other keys on the keyboard. Moving the mouse creates a pattern on the display/screen, but no options appear. The machine appears to going to sleep, but is unable to wake up.The only way to make the machine react, is to use the power button.I have changed the settings so that the machine never goes to sleep, but this has no effect.
