MacBook :: Excel 2011 Crashes On Launch?

Apr 29, 2012

I've had great success with Excel 2011 on OS 10.6.8.  Up until today.  Now, Excel crashes on launch, tries to recover, and crashes again.  I read the previous comments about a) hold down shift key and launch  and b) delete the /plist file.  Tried both, no success. I can still launch Excel 2008, fyi.  And Word, etc, all other MS office products...

MacBook Air :: Excel Office 2011- No Standard Toolbar And Resizing Windows

Dec 1, 2010

Two strange issues that I can't fix on my new MB Air 13 with MS Office for MAC 2011 and Excel.

1) I can't get the Standard Toolbar to show up when I open a new worksheet. I go to view, toolbars and then see that the Standard Toolbar is checked, but it doesn't show up. The only way to get it to show up is to do a series of steps:
- uncheck Standard Toolbar menu and go back out;
- go back in and check the Standard Toolbar and back to the spreadsheet
- the Standard Toolbar still doesn't show up;
- so then I click on the Layout tab on the ribbon and then it shows up!

2) I can't see the bottom of the window/spreadsheet - which means I can't resize the window. To resolve this, I have to do these steps:
- open system preferences and change my MBA screen resolution from 1440 x 900 down to 1280 x 800
- then go back to the spreadsheet, and resize the window (make it smaller on the screen)
- go back and resize the window back to 1440 x 900
- and then close the system preferences at this point, the Excel spreadsheet window is smaller and I can see/use the bottom of the screen to resize, etc.

Can't figure out what setting I have wrong or why I can't get Excel for Mac 2011 to work correctly on the MB Air screen.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Excel And Word 2011 Hang On Saving On IMac But Are Fine On Macbook Air

Feb 7, 2012

I am running Lion 10.7.3 on a 2.8GHz CoreDuo iMac from 2007 and on a Macbok Air 2.13 GHz Core duo from 2010.  The iMac has 4GB of RAM the Macbook has 2 GB RAM.

I run Microsoft Office 2011 on both machines.  For the same file the Macbook operates normally on Word and Excel.  The iMac is slow at best and when I try a Save As it hangs for up to 15 minutes brfor letting me change the FIle Name. This effectively makes it unusable.

As far as I can tell the set up of Office on both Machines is identical and I have eliminated duplicate Fonts as suggested by some posts but the problem remains.  I have checked Activity Monitor and I am not getting any Page Outs so RAM does not appear to be an issue.

Software :: Microsoft To Launch Office For Mac 2011

Sep 28, 2010

Microsoft on Tuesday announced that it will launch Office for Mac 2011, the latest version of its top-selling software suite, on Oct. 26, with preorders now being taken. All versions of Office for Mac 2011 are now available for preorder from Amazon. They include the Home and Student Edition, Home and Business, and separate purchases of PowerPoint for Mac, Word for Mac and Excel for Mac. On the official Office for Mac 2011 blog, the company also released its last behind-the-scenes look at the development of the latest version of Office. The company highlighted the new "Dynamic Reorder" feature, which gives users the ability to interactively reorder all layers in a document or presentation. Office for Mac 2011 also includes a new "Full Screen" view that offers two perspectives optimized for writing and another for reading. Microsoft also said that the newest Office for Mac was developed with performance improvements a top priority. The team said they hope users appreciate the effort that went into it when they experience the launch speed of each application, as well as the overall speed of the suite. Office for Mac 2011 was sent to manufacturing earlier this month, and Amazon had previously listed the Oct. 26 date. However, Tuesday's announcement is the official confirmation of when it will launch. Customers who purchase Office 2008 for Mac between Aug. 1, 2010 and Nov. 30, 2010 are eligible for a free upgrade. All other users will have to purchase the standalone versions. Prices start at $119 for the Home and Student version, which lacks Outlook, and $199 for the Home and Business version. An Academic version will also be offered to qualifying students and educators for $99. Software :: Acrobat 7 Pro Crashes On Launch

Feb 21, 2010

I'm running OSX.4.11 on a Dual 500 G4. I've recently lost the ability to use Acrobat 7 Professional for some reason. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, running all updates as well. I've trashed preferences. I've tossed /Library files. It still won't launch. Distiller will launch but won't distill at all. It just processes then crashes. Seems to have begun when I installed Adobe Reader 9. I also have CS3 & 4 apps installed which run fine. I know the conflict lies somewhere in all that but don't know exactly where. I am able to generate PDFs from other apps like Quark but I need the editing abilities that Pro offers.

ITunes :: It Crashes System After Launch?

Feb 10, 2012

For the last several days my iMac will freeze a few minutes after launching, then proceed to freeze my entire iMac, forcing a hard reboot. I ran Activity Monitor when launching iTunes and noticed that before the trouble started simply mousing around or scrolling could take up 25% of my processor. Then it would jump up to 80-105% then it would fall to 0% and the system would freeze. If I then immediately used 'Force Quit Applications' I could force-quit iTunes... but only after the system itself had frozen for 10-30 seconds before finally giving me the pop-up asking to make sure I wanted to force-quit. (iTunes Helper never seemed to take any processor power.) iTunes 10 is definitely the culprit.

My setup: 2007 Core2Duo iMac 4Gb RAM, iTunes with 29,000 songs running 10.6.8 with latest updates. I have 185Gb left on my 750Gb drive. I've run Onyx to clear out all caches, and I've even trashed iTunes and downloaded a fresh copy from Apple and reinstalled.

Software :: Formula Array In Excel For Mac 2011 (Brackets Missing)

Jan 21, 2011

I am experienced in Excel VBA on the PC but not on the Mac. I am building an application on my PC that will run on my sister's Mac (latest OS, Excel V14.0.2). The problem involves the use of FormulaARRAY in my code. I have extracted the problem statement into a small example routine shown below:
Public Sub example()
Dim lastcol As Long
With ActiveSheet
lastcol = 12
.Cells(4, 6).FormulaArray = "=SUM((MOD(COLUMN(RC9:RC" & lastcol & ")
-COLUMN(RC9),3)=0)*(RC9:RC" & lastcol & "))" End With End Sub

Here is one of the correct and working formulas that resulted on the PC (note the brackets for the array formulas are missing but they are there. I got what I am showing by using the 'display formulas' option which apparently does not show the brackets):
=SUM((MOD(COLUMN(RC9:RC12)-COLUMN(RC9),3)=0)*(RC9:RC12))

Here is the incorrect and non working formula that resulted on my sister's Mac: (again the brackets are there)
=SUM((MOD(COLUMN(R[5]C[465]:R[8]C[465])-COLUMN(R[5]C[465]),3)=0)*(R[5]C[465]:R[8]C[465]))

Both systems were set to display R1C1 Reference Style. This is irrelevant on the PC and I would assume the same for the Mac. I bought an old G4 for $60 to use to debug my PC code in the Mac environment. Curiously the code runs fine on it under Excel 2004.
