MacBook :: Color Calibration Profiles - Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody
Nov 3, 2008
I did this for the Macbook Pro's a while back, but I'm a Macbook guy now. There are a few other threads with profiles but it's no good if you use a profile made from a different panel than what you have. I'm just trying to consolidate things here.
I will try to keep this post current; please only submit profiles created from hardware, not those done by human eye (meatware?) And be sure to say which panel the profile is for. Thanks to everyone for contributing and improving the Macbook experience!
How to determine your panel type/code
How to install and use color profiles
Basic tests to determine if a profile is a good fit:

White level

I recommend using the Native whitepoint.See attachment (rezonat0r-9c89-alt.zip)Spyder3 Pro. 2.2 Gamma, Native whitepoint. This is an alternate profile made from another Macbook with the LG panel. It is similar to the previous but slightly darkerjessica's profileSpyder2 Pro. 2.2 Gamma. Native whitepoint (I think - not confirmed)
9C8C (AU Optronics)
See attachment (rezonat0r-9c8c.zip)Spyder3 Pro. 2.2 Gamma. I only did a calibration at native whitepoint (honestly, if you really need 6500K then you won't be using a Macbook screen, or any laptop screen for that matter)

I've been trying to get decent color on my Acer AL2216W display to no avail.
First, I attempted to fiddle with the brightness and contrast levels because I've been having trouble seeing really light grays. I used this as a guide so my whites, grays, and blacks looked good but then my colors were completely off.
[URL]
Then, (after resetting all my changes) I downloaded a color profile from the Acer support website. Surprisingly, that profile is completely off.
Next, I tried using Mac OS X's Color Calibration utility in System Pref > Displays > Color > Calibrate. I ended up with incorrect colors & grays again.
Am I doing something wrong? Could someone please direct me about how to achieve proper colors and contrast?
Also, if any of you have an Acer AL2216W and you have made a correct color profile, please pass it along!

After switching from David's Profile (which was meant for a MacBook anyways not an iMac) to Colour LCD on my 20" Aluminium, I could not believe how dark David's Profile is. I have seen some 20" Aluminium iMac colour profiles but like 95% of them are for 96CA panel not 96CB (which I have). Does anybody have good colour calibration profiles for the 9C6B panel?

I am about to upgrade my late 2008 aluminum MacBook 2.4 Ghz to 6GB of ram from owc but wanted to know if the will support 8GB, running at full stability. From what I can tell from other threads is that the owc 8GB kit doesn't work is this correct? If it can handle 8GB of ram I will do that instead of 6GB.

I'm using a MacBook, the late 2008 aluminum edition. I'm running Snow Leopard and have updated to 10.6.2. For the last few weeks, I've been having a problem where my computer switches in and out of Expose view (where you can see all the windows open at once) and normal view, even when I haven't touched the trackpad or pressed F3 on the keyboard. Sometimes it switches back and forth very rapidly, other times, it just switches into Expose, and then I have to click back out of it, and as soon as I do, it enters Expose mode again. I don't have any hot corners enabled, and the problem occurs even when I turn off 4 finger swiping on the track pad. I can't find any information about this problem anywhere, and I don't know what could be causing it or what I can try to fix it

Hi guys, I recently picked up a 20" Dell S2009W for $99 and it's pretty damn amazing, definitely replacing my old 19" Westinghouse monitor.
I'd like some tips on calibrating the color profile of the display (as well as my uMBP's display).
The model number for my uMBP is 9C84, if it helps at all
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've noticed recently that occasionally my screen will intermittently flicker.
It doesn't seem to be tied to anything specific. Just a random black screen flash.

I recently purchased a Late 2008 Unibody MacBook. I am thrilled! Yet I seem to be having the same charging issue MANY other people have had and have still not found a solution. Basically, as with everyone else, when I connected the Magsafe connector, it stays on finishing charge as if stuck there. I have left it for 2 full days and nights now with no luck. I have calibrated the battery and it is still doing it. The battery only shows 60 cycles and it's health it at 80%. I've even reset the SMC with no avail.

I bought an oldish MacBook 13' Unibody (late 2008) and when I got it one of the first things I did was to install Mac OSX Lion.
Everything was working fine, until I applied an update that made the trackpad stop working (it only accepts clicks, no touch is recognized).
This is the "Trackpad Firmware Update" from the automatic updates.
When starting this firmware update it appears a window with a status message, cancel and Update buttons. After clicking the update button, it starts installing, appears to complete, status changes to "Finishing...", and Update button comes back active at some point.
After that I have tried (unsuccessfully):downloading and installing the update directly from Apple Support [URL] thing, but using the 'root' accountleaving the computer on overnight to see if actually "finished" the processReset PRAM PVRAM - [URL] - [URL] palm pressing over 30 seconds on the trackpad (read this on another thread...?)

Sometimes my MBP will randomly "forget" it's color profile after waking up from sleep or screensaver. It doesn't happen very often, maybe less than once a month now. I know a few other people have had this problem, and as far as I know the issue is unresolved, with the solution being "go into display settings and it will change back" but there was nothing that could be done to prevent it from changing.

today I bought a 7200rpm 500gb seagate hard drive. The installation went great. reinstall of osx went great. The computer is up and running but at osx 10.5.5 and I noticed my color profiles have not migrated over so I'm guessing other things haven't either... My AT&T card is also encountering a "fatal error" while trying to connect so I can't even get online to try to update. What went wrong? What should I do? I did a TM bck up right before the HD swap.

Every now and then (every few days maybe), my macbook's display profile will switch from my good-looking calibrated profile to one of the really bad looking color profiles (which gives everything a nasty purple tint). This usually happens when the display is woken up, or when I switch from a fullscreen game back to the desktop.
When it does it, I can switch it back by going to system preferences > display > color and clicking the color profile I normally use, but having to do this is getting annoying.

I was trying different profiles for my external monitor (make and model in signature) and I noticed there were 2 identical profiles for Adobe RGB 1998 and sRGB 2.1.
I attached a screenshot of the system preference pane that shows up on my external display when I go to Displays.
Does it have to do with my external being attached? Maybe the main LCD has one of each profiles and the external display has another set?

I'd like to have my RGB values in Photoshop produce the same values in Keynote and Powerpoint. That is, I'd like to have the blue of my logo (128, 215, 236) appear identically in all three programs by typing the value into the color picker.

I'm really struggling to print greyscale with my HP B110 printer. Print using a greyscale colorsync profile In the OS X print dialogue box, there is a menu under the paper size and orientation settings which should have the name of the printing application in it. When users click this menu there will be universal printing options available first, followed by a set of driver-specific options. In the first set, select "Color Matching" and select the "Colorsync" radio button. Then in the "Profile" menu choose "Other Profiles" and select either "Black and White" or "Generic Gray Profile". With one of these profiles selected, printing the document will now be in black and white or greyscale.
The problem is that neither of those Profile options appear through that print dialogue box. There are a dozen or so, such as "Wide Gamut RGB" and "Generic RGB Profile" but none mentioning Gray, Grayscale or Black. If I open ColorSync utility, I can see that there is a System file called Generic Gray Profile in /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Generic Gray - however if I navigate to this path, it is not there, only something called Gray Tone and a few others. how can I activate this profile so I can select it as a printing option?

I recently got a new lcd for my macbook unibody, started putting it in, connected the lvds connector and the screen lit up fine. After i finished putting the computer back together and after a restart, i noticed that the backlight had gone out, but the screen was still working. I checked both sides of the lvds cord to see if they were connected right, with no luck. So I tested the old lcd, and i found that the backlight was not working on the old lcd screen either... Im hoping someone could tell me what its likely to be? Its out of warranty, so im out of luck there...

I have a Dell 2408WFP on the way, as well as a Mac Pro 2.8 with the HD 2600XT, at long last!
The 2408 was recommended by several users of this site, so I wanted to see if you would be willing to share your calibration settings for the monitor?
I've read here about the important task of recalibrating this monitor and soaked up as much knowledge as a I could (as he does get into his settings a little bit).
Since it seems some of you would have a very similar system to me , I was hoping you could help take a little of the pain out of calibrating it (without an external device) and share all relevant settings with me (monitor settings, color profile, graphics card settings, etc.)

I am one of the unfortunate early adopters of the aluminum non-pro unibody macbooks, and I just wanted to as some general information about them (even though that may seem a bit odd:
A)Does anyone know exactly (month-wise) how long they were produced?
B)What the cost was (in my case for the 2.4 ghz. It wasn't put on my credit card, so I can't look it up)
C) The initial price (is it the same as now?) of the MBP aluminum unibody 13"
D) If there was ever anykind of restitution for the early adopters (there wasn't that I know of, just checking)
and before anybody tells me that I'm just complaining, Look (assuming my facts are straight, which is why I am making this thread)...I bought this laptop and not but a few months later, they basically re-released a pumped up (and by pumped up I mean included features that were standard in many other laptops at the time I bought mine, for example 4gb of ram instead of 2..) version of it at a lower price. Now I'm not whining, the laptop has served me pretty well (although it's had just as many hang-ups and problems as any other laptop I've owned, apple or other) I'm just a bit dissapointed with apple, and if things stand as I believe they do, this will certainly be the last apple laptop (the only thing from apple that I do buy) I buy .

what should i used to clean the aluminum unibody, when it comes to the lcd screen i know alcohol and other solutions are bad for lcd because of the thin flim layer but the macbook pro has glass so it should'nt hurt the screen to use those kind of products.
