The bottom part of my Macbook is peeling off I have no idea why, its never been dropped scratched exposed to extreme temperature. I noticed about a week ago the bottom part had a bit of a crack where its suppose to meet on the edge, I woke up this morning to find this!

I need to take it into my mac store but do you think they will do this without a fuss as ive already had to pay and extra £50 for a new lead (still in guarentee) as it was faulty and I do not want to keep spending money on this.

My macbook's bottom is peeling off. The rubber material has now come away from one of the screws and there is a 7" gap showing the metal. It is past warranty and I'm far from an Apple store.

I am a proud owner of an Apple Macbook Pro 15 inch since Feb 2009. I am a converted user from PC to MAC and preach the benefits of Apple OS X et al to colleagues, friends and family. This morning I noticed some slight peeling on the bottom right side (near trackpad) of my Macbook Pro. At first I did not realise what it was, I thought it might be some surface marking / dust. I wiped the area with a dry cloth at which point a small part of the surface came away. Here is a link showing images that I have just taken. Need some constructive advice from the forum on what to do?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI did a search and could only find information about the last rendition of mbps, and I see they had problems with bleeding along the bottom part of the screen. I just got my umbp a week ago, but I've been so busy finding a place to live for grad school that I haven't had the chance to use it. I looked at it in the dark yesterday, and I'm super anal. I saw a small amount of backlight bleeding on the bottom left corner of the screen, perhaps half an inch on the left side of the screen, just in one area (not along the entire left side).I wish I could take a picture, but my digital camera is nowhere to be found. Is a small amount of backlight bleeding acceptable, or should I exchange for a new umbp?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSome weeks ago I dropped my MacBook Air (well, actually I couldn�t do anything, my bag was broken so it dropped) and got quite a noticeable dent in the bottom left corner on the screen (outside, you can see the dent while closed). I tried to live with it but with such an expensive machine I can barely do that. So I tried to find a replacement part, the display housing. But - I can�t. I can find replacement LCD displays, replacement housings f�r MacBooks, for MacBook Pros - but NOTHING like that for the Air. Seems like this is Murphys law, eh? This really sucks.

My question is, do I need to get the exact part number listed on the bottom of my laptop (A1211) or can I get a bottom from any pre-unibody MBP i.e. A1260? Also, has anyone ever replaced this part? How difficult is it? I have experience working on laptops, I've just never taken a mac this much apart.

View 15 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or the macbook air has a problem with backlight? it's very very bright compare to my mbp 13.3 but it seems like the left part of the screen receive a lot more light than the bottom right of the screen. I notice that on the mbp pro but its worse on the mba. I have a rev2 1.86 with a 9400. In this review (in spanish) they check the brightness levels on the screen, and there is a difference between center and bottom right corner (340cd/m2 vs 215cd/m2)

I just made the transition from PC and bought a MBP Santa Rosa 2.2Ghz Duo with 2 keys(the cursor down and right) that do not work. Presumably the entire keyboard needs replacement. Does anyone know if 922-8035 the same as 922-7183? Several sites advertise them together, and others individually. The reason this is important is the price discrepancy, plus I want to get a Russian (Cyrillic) keyboard and there is a good one listed as 922-7183 but I want to make sure it is the same as 922-8035.

I use iPhoto to organize my (tens of thousands of) photos and videos. My iPhoto library has grown to 565 GB and I really need to reduce that.
I know that it's possible for me to split off some of the photos (e.g. the older ones that I don't view very often) into a separate iPhoto library, which I could store on a different hard drive. However, since I have a laptop and use it in lots of different locations, I'm not too keen on the idea of having those photos stored in an external hard drive that I'd have to retrieve/bring with me whenever I want to view the photos.
My question is, can I split off the older photos into another iPhoto library, but leave that library on my laptop hard drive and just compress it? Then un-compress it whenever I want to view those particular photos?

I've restarted my Powerbook G4, but it's still doing the same thing: it's not displaying part of the top menubar (regardless of whether I'm on Firefox or the Finder or whatever app) so I can't see the time, battery/charge status, wireless, etc. I can see everything on the left half just fine (the part where it's specific for each app: File, Edit, View, History, etc). But the right half is blank, *except* for the blue circle icon with a white magnifier icon inside -- that thing is flashing...
Another thing is that I can't open excel files. Weirdly, I can open MS Word just fine. It tells me "not enough memory", but these excel files are pretty small. The thing is, I had Office 2004, and a couple of months ago I installed Office 2008. Yesterday morning, I got an "Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.5 Update" and I just clicked "Update" like I usually do... but I was running late and had to take my laptop with me so I canceled it when it was like 80% done. Could that be causing problems?
BUT I remember the night before, I had the DVD player on, set a timer to *shut down* in 20 minutes, and I remember the morning after (the morning of this Update), I saw that my laptop was (still) ON, and it had a pop-up window to say that some stuff on my computer may run erraneously because my date on the laptop was set for before 1965 or something. So then I had to go fix the clock on my laptop which was set to like 1960 January or something.
PS - there are additional weirdness going on, like when I change the volume using the keys on the keyboard, the transparent little box that's supposed to show up on the screen with the corresponding number of bars --- that's now showing up as just a big block of white box... And on things like Finder Windows, the top portion of the window where I should be seeing a back-arrow button and stuff, they are not showing up...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had this quad g5 (dualcore 2.5ghz X 2) laying around for about a year that I purchased for $100 without a hard drive, super drive or a power cord. I was told that it was non working in the manner that ONE of the dual core cpu's had gone bad. I will be receiving my power cord this week to make sure that it still powers on but what the problem is.
My question is: If only one of the cpu's are bad, what is the part number I will be looking at? I am not wanting to spend a fortune on this to fix it, but If I do get it working I would like to drop 8-16gb ram in it, and setup a raid with 2 raptors.
My powerbook G4 aluminum was dropped about 18 inches. The display is now hosed. Thus far I have found *nothing* wrong with the laptop except for the internal display only shows gray horizontal lines with black snow/static intermixed (still in horizontal lines).
What I'm thinking is that the display is probably actually fine and there is some little logic board in the display casing that is bad.
Here is what I've proven:
1. external monitor still works fine (means vid card is fine?)
2. swapped internal displays with another powerbook and was fully functional (means it's something in my display casing or my display itself)
3. backlight works fine (on my munged display)
4. i can see movement in the grayness when i move the mouse pointer around almost like the pointer was as wide as the screen and 90% translucent (i.e. there is a horizontal shaded bar i can move up and down with the trackpad)
I've already thought about upgrading to the 1440x960 display and being done with it. But then I started thinking it is probably a $40-50 part if I could just narrow it down.... And that would be the smart thing, rather than spending $300+
The OVERTEMP red LED keeps lighting up on the system board of my Power Mac G5 2.3GHz. Obviously something is overheating. I called Apple Support and he asked my how long it has been since I turned off my Power Mac. I told him its been 2 years (since I bought it). He said that I need to turn it off once in a while for some time. I use it to serve files so I can't turn it off. Sounds kind of ridiculous if you ask me.
He said that if it continues to happen I need to take it in for servicing because a fan could be broken, etc.
I've got a powermac G5 dual 2ghz and 3 gigs of RAM that has a dead logic board. I don't really want to pay the $900 to have it replaced, so I'm thinking about just parting out the rest of the machine.
