I use my white (unibody) mac for extended hours at a stretch and is covered with a hard transparent cover (speck). I checked out the cooling pads from belkin that seem to work great with other laptops but when it comes to a mac which has no vents at the bottom but at the corner where the hinges for the screen is, how effective would it be..?

My Macbook Pro under Windows XP runs hot (CPU @ 60-70, GPU @ 80-90) after just 10 minutes of gaming. The fans ramp up by themselves, yes, and after I quit the game, temps are back down within 10 minutes.
My question is, would a cooling pad be a worthwhile investment to cool it down? (I will be gaming for around 2 - 3 hours daily)
Installed a few software up dates in Parallels/Windows XP and saw the processor hit 176 degrees. Can anyone recommend a decent fan/cooling mat that will fit the AIR? I have one for my MacBook Pro that's unfortunately a little too large.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm interested in the cooling systems of the MacBook Pro and whether or not the cooling can handle high CPU stress (gaming) when the lid is closed and its sat on a desk. I have my early 2011 hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display and I can afford to buy a BookArc Pro it'll be sat on my desk. I have no need for the MacBook display while I have my Thunderbolt monitor so ideally I want it disabled which I would do by closing the lid. If its sat on my desk with the lid closed will the cooling systems he as good as if it was open?

Just like the title says I wanted to know what is the max and/or average dB value / noise level for the cooling fans of the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.I saw that there are asymmetrically spaced impeller blades to reduce noise, but also it says "reducing tonal impact". So there seems to be a noticeable noise level? I work in very quiet locations and have good ears, so I wondered if I better don't get one of these. I'm currently using an iMac 27" and once the hard disks are running at full speed after starting up I cannot hear anything.

Firstly I need a bag for it. I was reading through some posts here today with lots of suggestions on brands of bags. The ones that caught my eye were crumpler bags. Does anyone have any experience of these, are they of a decent quality and if so could you recommend one that would be suitable for the MBP 15"?
Secondly each weekend I will be taking this laptop to my boyfriend's house. We'd really like to play some games together but I need some way of setting it up in his hallway. Does anyone own anything like a fold-away laptop table/desk and know where I could find one? It would need to be smallish, just big enough for me to stand the laptop on and have a mouse plugged in. I'm not really sure such a thing exists and my google searches haven't turned up anything suitable but perhaps I'm searching on the wrong terms. The important bit is being able to fold it away after and stick it in a cupboard somewhere.

The monitor looks pink, sometimes green, whatever – not balanced color. When I connect the monitor directly to the Thunderbolt connector on the Mac, it's fine.

When the lid is closed, the laptop somtimes becomes very noisy, especially when using heavy applications.
That is why I am thinking of buying an external cooling pad.

So I'm trying to connect my MBP to my new Belkin Double N+ (F6D6230uk4) router. I have 2.4 ghz set to b/g and 5 ghz set to n and 20/40hz bandwidth. Last night, when I connected to the router for the first time, I was showing 300mbps, when you Options+click the Airport icon. However, now I'm only showing 145mbps. To be fair, I may have changed a few settings between now and then, but I have no idea how I was able to get 300mbps before. It's as though it's only connecting to one channel, instead of two, which is required for 300mpbs I think?

Not even the fans turn on. (whatever, i'll just gut it and put my pc in it) apparently, the waterblock leaked and probably hit the mobo or psu. anyways, is there a possability of the waterblock/cooler system to be removed? any specific guides or something?

I bought my IMac in 2010 and have not had any problems with it until now. I noticed the "noise" a couple of months back and it would show up here and there every once in a while, it was not annoying, so I let it be. Until this last time, when the noise was loud and annoying, I could not just forget about it. I am under warranty and called into Apple to see what can be done for this problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have trying to get my laptop hooked up to my tv, using the apple mini displayport to DVI -> belkin DVI to HDMI cable setup (as recommended by the dude int eh apple store - which i knew and planned on doing anyway :P).
anyway, when i first plugged it in to the tv in my hotel room it worked, 1080p, then stopped .. then randomly worked again after a few ties. Once I got home i hooked it up to my sharp aquos 42 and worked fine, then after it was unplugged and tried to get it working again, it basically just.. wouldn't - i don't get a picture/signal on the tv, no options in the display cp , nor does the screen go blue when it normally finds a monitor/tv. i've tried plugging it in both ends, restarting, turning tv off/on, everything to no avail. I know the dvi-hdmi cable works, used it from a windows desktop to make sure. the mini displayport to DVI works for DVI 100% of the time into one of my monitors.
as mentioned it had worked at first on and off..., and now i cant get it working on my 1080p tv, nor the 720p one that's in my room, neither of them get a picture/signal; no options in display control panel either, or the quick display flash to blue. Furthermore, sometimes when unplugging the dvi cable from the tv i get the laptop screen flash, as when it picks the device up initially.
I never got my emailed invoice from apple when I bought the cables in in SF during macworld so I cant just return it to apple I'm sure.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated, please help this is making me go crazy... worked and now nothing no matter what i try. Oh, also tried on another, new user to see if it was a weird setting that got saved.

I've had the Belkin AV360 for less than a week now and I am no longer getting any sound from any HDMI devices plugged in. Video displays just fine but no sound. I did change my sound input on the iMac earlier today but I've tried switching it to other settings and still no go.
