MacBook Pro :: Blank White Screen On Boot Up?
May 13, 2012All of a sudden my 13" MacBook pro (2011) takes a long time to shut down. And on boot up it remains on a blank white screen where all I can do is move the mouse around. It may or may not boot to the desktop. At the moment I'm leaving it on sleep and it performs fine, apps load like normal but I'm afraid to shut it down incase it won't boot up again. The shut down takes so long that I need to hold the power button to shut it down. I've read around that it could be hardware failure but like I said I have it on sleep and it performs fine when I wake it.

i was on wireless so wen back and connected through wire and left over night in case it was heat

Sep 13, 2010I woke up to my MacBook fan going nuts. Had an error message on the screen that said something about a disk error. The machine wouldn't do anything (force quit, launch app) so I hard powered down. Now.....NOTHING. All I get is the white screen, followed by the flashing folder. Here is what I have tried so far.
I already booted from the restore cd that came with it and opened disk utility. The hard drive shows up as something like disk1 but not "Macintosh HD."Tried to repair permissions and got an error message. Thought then to do an archive and install......and the HDD isn't even a viable option to install the OS on.
I had the original (but smaller) HDD that came with my MacBook, so I put it back in and everything booted up just fine and is back up and running. (Thank God for MobleMe that had all my contacts, etc on it). But I still have some info on that other HDD that I need. I ordered a usb enclosure for the drive to maybe try some recovery, but it seems to me that the HDD failed or something. Is there anything else I can do?

Jun 22, 2012I recently purchased a MacBook Pro w/Retina and have an annoying issue that comes up from time to time. Once in a while a bright white pixel will appear in the middle of the screen. It stays put while it is there and I can drag screens around and nothing changes but then suddenly it will go away. After awhile it will popup in a new location and the same thing will happen. Is it an issue with my screen?

Apr 17, 2009From time to time, now, on my recently-acquired 2008 2.8x8 Mac Pro, it'll boot to a blank white screen, no Apple logo, no spinning indicator. It does not have Boot Camp set up. A single press of the power button will turn it off and it'll boot fine the immediately subsequent try. The console doesn't show anything.

Aug 20, 2008So I was just there, using my computer, doing nothing out-of-the-ordinary. I decided to open up a program (Yahoo! Instant Messenger, I think it was) and the computer went nuts. I completely froze...nothing I tried worked. So I shut the computer down and tried rebooting it. It chimed and went to the white start-up screen with the apple...I let it sit for about ten minutes to let it restart. Still the white screen. I shut it down and tried it again. Same thing.
Is my computer dead? What might I be able to do to fix it? How much might it cost?
OS X :: Cannot Boot Past White Screen / Recovery Software?
Mar 4, 2009When I woke up this morning, I went on my macbook (which had been running overnight) and everything was running sluggish. I'd switch between programs and it would hang there for a couple seconds. So after closing all the software and it still doing that, I decided to restart. It wouldn't shut down, and eventually I had to force a hard shut down. When I turn it back on now, it won't go past the white screen. Nothing I've done will make it go anywhere. Holding down option only makes a cursor appear. I tried a tip I read about holding the power button down until the light flashes, and that hasn't helped either.
I've plugged the drive into my XP machine, and it doesn't show up in explorer, but does show up in disk utility. I installed the program TransMac that is supposed to let you access Mac formatted drives, and while the drive shows up in there, when I try to get to it, it says Error reading Mac Disk. So basically, I'm pretty sure the drive is failing. Now I need to know what I should use for recovery software. I've never had to recover a mac drive (I've been a mac convert for less than a year), and any file recovery software I have is for NTFS drives. So what software can I run on windows to recover a Mac formatted drive?
Software :: Black Screen With White Type On Boot Up
Mar 13, 2009I didn't have an internet connection so I rebooted the computer -- I wish I'd just rebooted the modem now. When it "rebooted" it didn't boot up but a black screen with a lot of white type saying the start up of various things failed -- it looked like a PC script type thing. Then that type disappeared leaving a black screen and just a white cursor that moves when I hit the space bar. This is the computer for the place I'm working and I'm not even sure what generation Mac it is, though I'll try to find out. I hope, hope, hope that there is some kind of simple resolution to this.

Jun 24, 2009I've searched this problem on google for the past hour or so and have had no luck whatsoever. I have an Ibook G4 14" and I think it's like 1.2 CPU. A while back the Ibook stopped working and left me with a grey screen and finder icon with flash quiestion mark. I searched the net for a solution for that and what came back was that I had a dead harddrive. Okay fair enough, I've just replaced the drive with the working one from my Mac Mini, i repeat the WORKING drive, I know it works. So I start up the Ibook and hear the chimes, the screen flashes black white black and then stays on white. I have reset the PRAM and eject disk works but no other key commands, I cannot boot from installer 10.4 cd (a new one I bought, not the bundled one), I can't go into target mode as I have no firewire and leaving it alone for a while doesn't help.

Jun 1, 2009So my 20" 2.4 Imac crashed on me twice tonight. A box popped up telling me to hold down the restart button for several seconds to restat. The second time I did this it just sits with a white screen and give three loud beeps over and over. Is there a fix for this? Is it my ram? I'm at a loss.

It's dead center in the screen so I was immediately irritated, then I noticed when I open Safari (or anything else like finder, apps, docs...whatever) the white dot goes away. I tried messing around with it and putting up black background and a white back ground and I don't understand how this is happening. Jun 1, 2010I'm wondering how uniform the backlighting is on everyone's mid-2010 MBPs. The screen on mine is sort of a gradient, with the screen becoming progressively brighter towards the left side. There are also what appear to be columns where the screen is slightly darker than the surrounding area. This makes it annoying to read in low-light conditions because the left side of the screen will be at a comfortable level when the right side is slightly too dim, or the other extreme. I absolutely cannot stand dead/hot pixels though which makes me hesitant to have the screen replaced. I just bought the notebook a week ago but I don't want it replaced, as I installed a Moshi PalmGuard before I noticed the screen issues. I also installed an InvisibleShield but I can have that replaced at no cost.

Mac Pro :: Front Row Screen Is Just White / Video Picture Is Pure White
Jun 12, 2010When I go to front row, all my video content plays sound, but the picture is just a pure white screen (shows the slider to move chapters, etc., but the screen is just white).
Any ideas for solutions? I did google searches, etc., to no avail. I have a MP (not early 08), which I upgraded the graphics card to a 2600XT, and it's running Leopard.

Sep 12, 2010I have owned my new MBP for less than 3 months and I have already spotted a dead pixel. It is about 2.5" about the dead center of the monitor. Whenever I have a browser or any other light background up I see it stick out like a sore thumb. I did a search on the forums and saw that Apple has a "policy" regarding these things before they will replace it. The nearest Apple store is 3 hours away and they want me to bring it in. Obviously I don;t want to drive all the way there for them to turn me away. What do you guys think....too OCD? The short amount of time I have owned it though makes me want it fixed...and I can't NOT see it now that I know it's there (yes it's a double negative).

Oct 18, 2008It seems one of the defect possibilities of the new manufacturing process is that the new Macbooks or Macbook Pros can get dust trapped behind the glass screen. At least, that's what happened to my Macbook. So they let me return it, and I got a Macbook Pro, and now the new Macbook Pro, though a thing of beauty, has a bright dead pixel in the top middle screen, as well as a dimmer dead pixel 2 inches to the left of that one. I heard that Apple's dead pixel policy was three dead pixels or no deal on an exchange, but I just bought the computer a few hours ago. Do you think I have a shot at them replacing it? I hate to think of staring at this, (bright) dead pixel for three years, (not to mention the other dimmer dead pixel).

Aug 18, 2009I just bought my white MacBook and its a great computer except for the 2 dead pixels that i found. On the left side there are 2-3 dead pixels about 1 inch from the bottom of the screen and 1 inch from the top.
I bought it from BestBuy this Sunday and only discovered the problem today. So my question is can they tell me that it is OK for an LCD to have 2-3 dead pixels and refuse to do anything with it? It is unacceptable in my opinion, as the LCD technologies have been out for a while, as well as Apple's products are usually of very high quality.

Aug 25, 2009I noticed shortly after I bought my Mac last week that I had a stuck pixel. I don't know if it was there when I first turned it on or not, but I have been trying to ignore it, and really the reason is that if people see it, they will think what I have is defective, when it is really only one pixel that I can probably work back awake. I know I have OCD-tendencies, so I was wondering if there are people out there that have a stuck/dead pixel that they are okay with having on the screen! Sorry for the weird post, but I was hoping to find some posters who have gotten over the fact that a pixel of theirs is dead/stuck.
