View 10 RepliesDoes anyone have any experience with a non-Apple USB to ethernet adapter on the Macbook Air? They be found on eBay for as little as 3 bucks, and I wonder if it'll be plug-and-play like the OEM adapter, which is $29.

tried using an ethernet to USB adaptor. I saw one at Fry's for $20. I normally do not have need for ethernet but one hotel I have stayed at seems to only have an in room ethernet connection to get on line.Would I notice any difference between an adaptor that supports USB 2 vs USB 1 while surfing the internet?

Just picked up the adaptor today and thought it was pretty much a no brainer: plug it in, it works. Not in this case, it keeps getting a self assigned IP address and I can't connect to the internet-although there is a green light next to the ethernet adaptor in System preferences. I have an Airport network set up as a normal scenario. I bought this adaptor only because I am about to take a trip and the hotel only has ethernet in the rooms. I've tried using the diagnostic tool, but it keeps hanging and crashing.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am looking to connect my macbook pro to an Acer G24 monitor, but am not sure what best way to do it.The resolution of the monitor is 1920x1200, and it is a 24" screen, with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports. My macbook pro is the late 2011 entry model.
Will there be a difference in the quality of the picture on my external monitor, depending on whether I connect using a HDMI cable or a DVI cable? I will have to buy an adapter for each of these, to plug into the mini DVI port on my mac, will this alter the quality of the picture at all? If I were to buy an Apple Tv, would I be able to plug it straight into my monitor using a HDMI cable? If so, how would I manage the audio, as my monitor does not have speakers. Would using a thunderbolt cable (with HDMI adaptor) increase the quality of the picture of my monitor?

I have a generic mp3 player that I would like to let my 7 year-old daugther use. I have transferred music to it before from a mac but converted the audio files to mp3 first. Now on my new macbook pro I can only find a way to burn mp3 files on to a cd.

I recently installed the 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system onto my MacBook Pro 13 inch. I have the most basic Macbook Pro 13 inch with nothing fancy added. Whenever I load up the Windows 7 OS on my Macbook, it never utilizes or even realizes that I have the NVIDIA graphics card in my laptop. It instead believes I have some integrated graphics card that cannot even run the most basic of PC games. I know my laptop can run these games because on OSX it runs multiple games with higher requirements than these games I am trying to run on Windows.
Basic question: How do I get bootcamp or whatever else to make Windows 7 realize I have a NVIDIA card and drivers. Sorry if I am coming off as stupid or confusing.
Would a generic Dell keyboard and mouse work using Mac OSX? Can I run Windows through Bootcamp and just plug them in and will they work?

I have a Macbook plastic, 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram.My Mac is currently running on OS X, i used to have a 40 gig partition Windows XP, a couple of friends of mine where talking about how much they liked Windows 7 and finally i had had enough blue screens to say, sure ill switch, why not?... assuming it would not take longer then lets say a day at most, i set off on my quest.
FWI, im running an older model Macbook that was bought refurbished (not sure if that has anything to do with my problem). anyway i removed my previous partition, then using Boot Camp Assistant i repartitioned a 40 gig section for Windows 7. Then ran the installer. I have a copy of Windows 7 ultimate 86x. The Windows boot screen turned up, i had to reformat the partition so that i could install, no problems there. after all said and done the installation worked perfectly, up to a point... First problem that appeared was the lack of sound. i fixed that by downloading Realtek's High Def sound drivers.
Then it was the rest of the drivers for the macbook. heres where i run into my problem, i have the Mac OSX install discs 1 and 2. inserting the first disc the option of the auto run of the setup popped up i clicked run. and instead of the same old install drivers option all i have is the option to install the software that lets macbook airs share cd/dvd drives... needless to say i got frustrated and to put it lightly pissed off...
unsure of wtf was going on i looked it up online and really couldnt find anyone with the same problem, i found a web page saying that i should have the windows auto update itself and that should fix the problem. it did not. i dont know what the hell is going on. and im about this close to reinstalling windows xp and telling windows 7 to go **** itself...
I've changed the icon for my "documents" folder, but the change did not take effect on my "documents" icon in my dock. I removed it from the dock, and dragged the "documents" folder with the new icon into the dock, but it just shows a generic blue folder. I logged off, and logged back in, but I still only see a generic blue folder.
does anyone currently use a Logitech Bluetooth MX900 (optical) with their MBP? I can configure the buttons fine, have no connection issues etc. But the pointer movement is quite jerky. It seems acceptable when swinging it about the screen. But when trying to do accurate tasks like click on a small button, it feels as if it is dragging. I have the tracking speed almost maxed out but reducing it doesn't really affect the dragging sensation, although it does smooth out the jerky movement. I've tried another cheap USB optical mouse but it's the same, jerky situation. I also tried a mouse mat but this hasn't helped either.
I'm assuming this is to do with lack of Logitech OS X support - The mouse works flawlessly under windows, however I think I remember a similar issue with Ubuntu. I'm baffled why the generic USB mouse was no different tho!? Is this just general OS X mouse acceleration?
Does the new MBA use a different DVI adaptor than the old models? Is it a 'mini' to 'micro' situation?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to connect my mbp (older model) to my Hitachi plasma TV via S-video. I have the Apple DVI to video adapter and the first time I hooked it all up it looked great. The next time, and from then on no matter what I do the picture on the TV is in gray scale (LCD is still color). I've gone into system prefs and tried every setting in there I could find, and even tried to calibrate it using the calibration assistant. Nothing. I've also tried different inputs on the TV (the two plain video ports there are), as well as tried adjusting every imaginable video/color setting I could find on my TV. I'm completely lost at this point. I've also tried different video cables and of course fn F7.

"Does it harm the battery or reduce battery life, to use the AC adaptor for extended periods while the battery is fully charged?"Someone answered, "I would have to disagree with the others who say that it hurts your battery & reduces battery life by keeping your AC adapter plugged in with a full battery.I have done extensive research and asked many apple employees and have always come to the same conclusion. They all say to keep your laptop plugged into an power supply whenever possible. Only use your battery if you have to, in those times when you are not near a power supply.

Are there any pre-requisites i must do, such as install version 170 first?
