Does anyone have any experience with a non-Apple USB to ethernet adapter on the Macbook Air? They be found on eBay for as little as 3 bucks, and I wonder if it'll be plug-and-play like the OEM adapter, which is $29.
I've recently purchased the Retina MacBook Pro and I wanted to get an Ethernet adapter for it. I was wondering whether it would be any quicker buying the official apple thunderbolt adaptor. Or would it be just as efficinet to buy a cheaper alternative on Amazon (one that uses USB).
I need one that works in both windows and Apple, I've been searching all over and I can't find one that is guaranteed to work with both. I was wondering if anyone is using a usb to ethernet and if anyone can point me into the right direction.
Just wanted to share how well the Monoprice USB 2 gigabit ethernet adapter works on the new MacBook Air. It costs only $20. The speed I get is 30Mbyte/s over my wired home network. Here is the link: [URL]. For Mac OS X, you must use the drivers on the enclosed mini-CD as the default Apple ones do not work. For Bootcamp/Windows 7, download from [URL] the chip manufacturer. Works great and much faster than Apple's fast Ethernet adapter or WLAN.
Hope I can get this clear before buying a new MBair 1.86 SSD. Can I connect to the MB air the ethernet / USB adapter via a USB hub? Via the USB hub of the extrenal keyboard? Via the USB hub of the new 24" led display?
my USB Ethernet adapter is not recognized anymore. I have the feeling this happens after upgrading to 10.7.4. I didn't realized it in the beginning because the MBA was using Wifi in the last 2 days.I even just bought a new USB Ethernet adapter, but no success.
I bought a apple usb to ethernet adapter and my new macbook air 13" doesnt connect with the adapter. The adapter appears in systems information but doesnt appear inside network so I cant configure any static or dynamic mode in the adapter.
Has anyone had issues upgrading Thunderbolt to 1.2.1 to support the new gigabit Ethernet adapter? I have tried about 6 times to do the update but my ethernet adapter still isn't being detected.
i've recently got the Ethernet adapter for MBA and I am still unable to connect to my home internet connection... It continues to give me a "self-assigned IP".
I have been unable to find a sure answer to this and I need it before buying a new MBair .May be one of you has done it.Could I connect the Apple USB/Ethernet adapter of the macbook air 1.86 leopard 10.5.6 via a usb hub ? via the hub on the keyboard ? via the hub of the new 24" led display ?
I am trying to get onto our home wireless network using a G4 a friend has just given me. It doesn't have an airport facility so my friend has also given me a 802.11g wireless ethernet adapter. I have followed the instructions exactly (accessing the adapters internal configuration and setting it to the wireless networks SSID and channel, then going back into the network settings and re-setting it to "obtain IP address using DHCP') When i restart the computer the network status reads as "built in ethernet is active and has a self-assigned ip address. you may not be able to connect to the internet" (the marker next to it is yellow) needless to say I cannot connect to the internet.
In my house there is a wired and wireless connection.
On my macbook (2008 Al) the port on the side is gigabit internet.
In my house the cables are all ethernet (blue cables). These do not fit in the port on the side. Is there a way or an adapter to convert the ethernet to a gigabit connection?
Anyone have good luck with a gig-e->USB adapter? I'm planning to get a MBA and cinema display, but I need the use of gigabit ethernet. Will it work well if I plug it into the USB hub on the display and will I be able to max out the USB connection?
I have a USB only printer. I also have this adapter: [URL]..... Is it possible to plug the printer into an ethernet port on my router and connect to the printer via IP? How would I go about finding the printer's IP address?
I'm struggling to find the best approach here. Here's what I got:
1) Mac Mini 2.0Ghz running Snow Leopard 2) Mac Book Pro 2.53Ghz running Leopard 3) Mac Book 2.0Ghz running Leopard
My wife and I each use a laptop as our regular computer. The Mac Mini we just picked up and are looking to use it as a home server (although it doesn't have Snow Leopard Server). We use a program for our business called Daylite that hosts a database that we share between laptops - this is being hosted on the Mac Mini, which will always be powered on so we each can access it. There are also a couple folders that we would like to share on the Mac Mini. This Mac Mini will also sit next to our HDTV to be used for streaming, HULU Netflix, etc. My problem is that I don't know the best way to configure the Mac Mini on the network. I have a Verizon Actiontec Router and Comcast Internet (Dynamic IP, although it has been the same for some time). My questions are:
1) Does it make a difference if I have the Mac Mini directly plugged into the router via ethernet vs wireless? Right now, when we try and File Share between the Mac Mini and laptops, it takes forever to connect, navigate, save files, especially if I am saving to the Mac Mini, from a laptop using Photoshop or even Word. 2) Do I gain anything from running the cable modem directly to the Mac Mini and the enable Internet Sharing from the two laptops, as opposed to using the router? 3) I transferred 1 gig worth of files from a laptop to the Mac Mini and it literally took an hour. I retried it using a direct connection via eithernet between the two computers and it took 10 minutes. I'm hoping that optimizing my setup will speed up my local network transfers. Yes, no? 4) Can I used a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter from my Mac Mini to my tv? If so, does this also send audio signal? It's an Early 2009 Mac Mini.
I have a generic mp3 player that I would like to let my 7 year-old daugther use. I have transferred music to it before from a mac but converted the audio files to mp3 first. Now on my new macbook pro I can only find a way to burn mp3 files on to a cd.
'what is an airport base station? I'm using a generic router and have forgotten my airport password. I see a remark about a soft reset but I don't know what an airport "base station" is.
I've changed the icon for my "documents" folder, but the change did not take effect on my "documents" icon in my dock. I removed it from the dock, and dragged the "documents" folder with the new icon into the dock, but it just shows a generic blue folder. I logged off, and logged back in, but I still only see a generic blue folder.
does anyone currently use a Logitech Bluetooth MX900 (optical) with their MBP? I can configure the buttons fine, have no connection issues etc. But the pointer movement is quite jerky. It seems acceptable when swinging it about the screen. But when trying to do accurate tasks like click on a small button, it feels as if it is dragging. I have the tracking speed almost maxed out but reducing it doesn't really affect the dragging sensation, although it does smooth out the jerky movement. I've tried another cheap USB optical mouse but it's the same, jerky situation. I also tried a mouse mat but this hasn't helped either.
I'm assuming this is to do with lack of Logitech OS X support - The mouse works flawlessly under windows, however I think I remember a similar issue with Ubuntu. I'm baffled why the generic USB mouse was no different tho!? Is this just general OS X mouse acceleration?
Buying both the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter AND Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is pretty expensive...
I was wondering if I purchase the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, will I be able to use a simple DVI to VGA adapter to use it as a VGA adapter also???
I'm not sure if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only sends digital signal or digital & analog signal.
I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.
Whenever I restart my system my sidebar icons revert to a generic white icon. Not all of them do it, and its not always the same ones. They flip flop for no reason. One time my picture icon will be generic, the next time I restart my picture icon is fine but my music icon is generic.
Anyone know why this happens? It never happened on my previous machines running the same version of OSX. 10.6.4
I used candybar to replace icons and its never been a problem in the past. I've even manually replaced the icons in finder and it still happens.
The icons in question are on my second drive, not my boot drive. Does that have something to do with it? Sometimes if I just click on the generic icon the correct icon will show up, sometimes it wont.
I have a PPC MAC G5 desktop and recently broke down and installed Leopard 10.5.2 and installed all the upgrades to 10.5.6. I especially liked how all my photo jpeg icons and quicktime movies would instantly reappear with a photo of itself or the first frame of the movie. Now though, all the icons are appearing generic?!? My Quicktime movies and all my photos are all staying as a generic jpeg icon. Is there a specific problem that causes this.? I have two hard drives and the second drive is still operating normally. But my main drive has ceased converting every icon whenever I open a new window.
