MacBook Air :: WiFi Not Get Activated On Opening Closed Lid
Feb 16, 2012
I have an Mac 24 desktop and my wifi is activated. My sister is visiting and I gave her my password to use the wifi, but every time she closes the lid, then opens it again she has to request the wifi again. Is there a setting I must change or she must change to keep the wifi activated?

I have a problem with my Wi-Fi adapter. Irregularly my Wi-Fi connection stucks with still showing that a connection should be there but the internet is not working. Anyhow I manually deactivate the whole Wi-Fi adapter and I cannot switch it on again. Same problem exists when sometimes awake the Macbook and then the adapter is again deactivated. In both cases just a restart helps to solve the problem. After that everythink is working perfect again. what to check? I'm not really familiarly with the log files..

Just recently, maybe for a week or two, after closing the lid on my MBP15, and long enough for it to go to sleep (set for 15 min), when I open the lid it is completely frozen. I can see the display on whereever I left it, but I can't do anything, no keys respond. Even the Caps Lock key light won't go on and off when pressed. So, I have to power off and on.
I thought perhaps it had something to do with the Firefox/Flash problem that causes huge CPU usage, but I uninstalled the Flash plugin in FF which seems to have fixed it. But the computer freezes up even with FF not running.

I have a mid-09 13" MBP. I just bought a display (dell U2311H), wireless apple kb and magic trackpad, with the intention to use just the external display and kb/trackpad, and stow my MBP away to save some space. Everything works fine when my MBP's lid is open. But once it is closed (or nearly closed), WiFi disconnects. I don't think it has anything to do with my wireless router, but more to do with some MBP setting.

I recently set up my new macbook pro with an Apple Cinema Display. The setup is great except that my wifi connection only works when my MBP is open. The second I close the screen the connection stops working. It's not a proximity issue since it works just fine when it's open.

I have a house that is not ideal for wifi. In particular, my office is an extension off the kitchen which has a solid brick wall between it and the rest of the house. Through 2 airport extremes, i get great wireless N signal everywhere in the house except this office. So, i added a 'N' airport express at the base of the stairs to this office and 'extended' the network.
So, i have 2 macbook pros up here. One is running on batteries, sitting on my desk, lid open. It is showing a rate of 108, signal -66 and noise -88 in the advanced wireless clients section of the airport express which it is getting it's signal from.
The next is closed and connected to a LED 24" cinema display. It is right next to the other MBP. It is showing a rate of 41, signal -80 and noise -93.
Why such a huge difference? Would it be because the lid is closed, it is connected to the display or a faulty macbook?

I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).Â
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).Â
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

Since upgrading to Yosemite I'm experiencing the following issue:Â
- After some time Safari stops opening URLs via Wifi connection. Restarting Safari doesn't work.Â
What works is switching to another Wifi connection (sometimes switching back also solves the issue)Â
What can I do to get a reliable Safari connection via Wifi?Â
Some background information:

- MBA mid 2013
- ac connection with at least 400 Mbit

I am using OS X version 10.5.7. Mail version 3.6 (935/935.3) As of yesterday my Mail program has failed. The symptom is that in the left window under 'mailboxes" when the "get mail" button is selected, the process activates, But the search fails - as though there is no internet connection. None of the accounts receive their mail, and the circle containing the exclamation mark signal appear. (Note, there is email arriving at the ISP. I checked using the ISPs webmail facility. I've tried retyping the password in the Mail settings, it's done correctly, so are the other settings for the ISP, but no luck). Sends have been successful.
I was hoping to extract (or archive? whatever that means) the actual messages and settings, then reinstalling the mail application. However, it seems from reading some posts that it might be necessary to instal the whole OS X system afresh to achieve this result. Of further concern to me is that it might not be possible to separate the messages in the mail application from the application itself. I don't want to just backup the mail folder then reinstal it, as i suspect there is something wrong with that folder, so I would just be reintroducing the bug into the reinstalled OSX... which would defeat the purpose.

I activated my gmail on my macbook pro (new mac user, older macbook). I can send messages no problem and I can see them in "sent" folder and receive them on other devices. But, I am not receiving messages to the inbox on the mac book mail. I was told to remove the account and then reinstall it, but I can't figure out how to remove it. Where I can enable mail so I can receive messages?

I have 3 Apple computers connected to my home network. I have a Macbook Air Running Mavericks, I new 27 inch iMac running Yosemite, and a 4 year old iMac running Yosemite. Â
The older iMac I use as a place to store my content. My music, movies, and pictures. When I purchase new music ( Yup, I still by CDs from time to time ) I rip them to the iMac than import the CD to my Macbook Air. So home sharing is on for both computers and both the laptop and the older iMac can see each others libraries. Â
I just purchased the new iMac recently and am finally getting around to getting my music moved onto it. So my intention was to turn on Home Sharing then import my music from the older iMac to the newer iMac. Here is where things get odd. I turned on the older iMac ( Home Sharing already turned on ). Then I went down stairs and turned on the new iMac and activated Home Sharing.  Neither iMac was able to see each others library. So I turn on my Macbook Air and now the Macbook Air and the older iMac can see each others libraries but the new iMac can only see the Macbook Airs library and not the older iMacs library.Â

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-  Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?Â

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.
Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.
So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.
Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

I bought an external HDD: [url] The HDD is connected by FireWire and it was detected instantly. I tried to enable TimeMachine and it works fine without encryption. But I need the encryption functionality because of company security policies. However, I tried to enable the encryption for that partition:  TimeMachine menu, Select volume, Choose the partition (external HDD), Enable the checkbox "Encrypt the backup volume", Button "Use the Backup volume", Insert the password, Submit . It shows "TimeMachine is preparing the volume" but it appears an error "The volume could not be activated". It works without encryption but it doesn't work with enabled encryption. iMAC Intel i3 8GB 1TB OSX10.7.4

I installed Windows via boot camp and activated smoothly. I then installed Parallels and had it boot off my boot camp partition. It had me activate again, which I did. All was running smooth until a few days ago. When I boot Parallels it says Windows is activated, but when I'm in boot camp it says it isn't. No matter how many times I try to reactivate the boot camp installation it says I need to "type a different product key for registration"

I have a late 2008 unibody macbook connected to a brand new Samsung monitor via a displayport to DVI cable and everything works great until I shut my macbook. The external monitor continues to work fine but my wireless seems to lose connection, my desk is approximately 15 feet from a wireless repeater and Airport appears to have a full signal but it will act as if there is a bad connection until I open my macbook back up and then the internet works fine.
I was talking to a friend and he mentioned that some displayport to DVI cables do not have sufficient shielding therefore interfering with the wireless signal but if that was the issue it should be effecting the wireless signal at all times, not just when the macbook is closed.

On every MB I've used since they first came out, you could hook the audio and video up, close the lid, and if it went into sleep mode, the Apple Remote would trigger a "wake up" for mediacenter purposes on a TV/stereo. My SR MB w/ 10.5 doesn't do it. As soon as the lid closes, it's asleep no matter how I toggle the view between screen and external port. Front Row doesn't wake it anymore. Anyone else having this problem? I wanted to find out before calling and asking.
