Right now I'm in a dark room and it's really hurting my eyes because of the brightness. Is there an app or something that can make the screen get even dimmer/brighter?

I had the current (at the time) entry level MacBook Pro, it could handle Gears of War & BioShock through Boot Camp with no hassle.

I have a 2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Mac Pro, with 9GB of DDR2 RAM and 2 Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT graphic cards each running a Samsung 24 inch screen. I recently bought Call of Duty 4 and found that the game runs terribly on anything higher then around medium sort of settings. I know the 7300 Graphic cards aren't the best for gaming, but they have done the job for me perfectly until now. I'm a photographer so I calibrate my screens with a Spyder and run a separate colour profile through each video card per screen, and its always calibrated perfectly.
I'm just curious if there is any actual performance advantage of having 2 video cards other then running a separate colour profile through each card? So for example, If I'm playing call of duty and only 1 screen is displaying information, does the other card just sit there, or does it jump on board and process information for the game being played? Because I would have thought having 2 7300's would somewhat give better performance during gaming then just the one?

A month or so ago, the backlight randomly went out on our MacBook. If you look very closely you can see the screen, but it's like you've got the brightness on its lowest setting. The backlight comes on as normal when you turn on the computer, or wake it from sleep, but goes out after about 2 minutes. Other than not being able to see what's going on, the computer works fine. I took it to the Apple Store, who said they'd have to replace something at a cost of ?75, which was fine. Just over a week later, they called and said that hadn't worked, and that it was actually the logic board that needed replacing, at a cost of ?385, more than the value of the computer. We decided it wasn't worth it.
Yesterday however, I took it to a friends and connected it to his monitor, and even though the screen was dark on the MacBook, it came up fine on the monitor. To me, it seems strange that it's a logic board issue when it works fine with an external display.

I just got an i7 27" iMac, and while its wonderfully in every way imaginable, I have an issue with my graphics card or drivers or something.
Two examples proving an issue:
I run world of warcraft and look in the video settings and I can't set anything to max at all, also a red bar assuming my graphics card is way out of its depth or something.
Also tried to run Left 4 Dead 2 from steam and in the menu I get some images come up as pink checkered squares and it always freezes when loading a match.

Well I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Boot Camp 2.1 and everything seems to be working fine, but when I'm running Empire: Total War, I have to have the quality on the lowest possible setting. Where as with Half Life (well when I ran it in Parallels this time) runs on highest quality.
Is there something I can do? I didn't think Empire: Total War was THAT graphic intensive, especially if Half Life 2 runs fine.

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

Thought I would take a couple minutes to summarize my thoughts on the Macbook Air after 3 months of use. For comparison, my prior machine was a Sony Vaio TR Series machine that I had for 4 years. I use the machine primarily for web-based applications, and Microsoft Office applications.Overall, I would buy again, but there are a few pros and cons I would point out. For most of what I do, it works fine. But if you are routinely using a lot of applications at one time, or working with large programs, I?m not sure it would be for you. If you buy, get the external DVD drive. You won?t use it that much, but it will be useful for installing software. While cool, the remote-disc feature makes these tasks more complicated than they need be, particularly when it?s only a $99 added cost.

When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key". This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future. I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.

I have a Macbook, 2Ghz Intel Core 2, 2 GB Ram, running OS 10.7.3. Safari 5.1.3, Firefox 12.0, Flash 11.2. Flash based videos etc. aren't working. I'll get a spinning beach ball, then "plug in failure". This happens on everything from the Yahoo homepage, to YouTube videos. I've tried logging in as a different Admin user, reinstalled Flash / OS. No change.

my macbook pro (late 2011) is powering down without warning. I'll be writing an email and w/o warning, it's off. I'm unable to turn it back on with the power button unless i hold it down for a slow count to 10. Fyi - machine is 100% charged when this happens. Two days ago, I did SMC and PRC resets with Apple Care. I needed to do both of these again yesterday on my own.

I was told to run Vista 64bit for games, but I was wondering about this Since many applications dont even have a 64bit version out and I dont think games are 64bit, will they all run under vista 64bit? I have a feeling this might be a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy Vista 64.
Also do you think windows 7 is better for games? Will it even run games that have not been written for it? Or would I just be better sticking with vista 64 until everyone has caught up and made their apps compatible with the new windows 7? I mean will antivirus programs, ripping apps, etc work under windows 7 without a hitch, or should I wait and just use vista64 for now?

I recently switched to Macs and purchased a Macbook Pro(which I love!). I'm still getting used to the OS, but I ran into a problem.
I was using a Windows computer before for my iPod (classic, not sure if that matters). I would like to transfer the songs I have from my windows iPod, onto my new Mac, but I'm not sure if that's possible(I think I may have read on Apple's website you can't switch from Mac to Windows but I'm not sure, but thats besides the point).
I don't really want to download a program to move my songs from the iPod onto the Mac.

I was playing a flash-based game when the game completely locked up my computer, and the only possible solution was to do a hard reboot (pressing and holding the power key). I waited and then restarted, but the screen had vertical and horizontal pixelated lines running through it all, and it froze several times during the startup process. The computer restarted itself several times, but it kept freezing while still in the grey screen. I tried starting it in safe mode, but I got the same results.
An attempt to run from the Lion restore drive didn't work, either. I reset the SMC and PRAM, and while resetting the PRAM changed the nature of the lines on the screen (narrowed them down), it didn't work, either. I finally got it to boot up, only to have it crash again when I attempted to watch a game on MLB.tv, which uses a Flash player. I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash, to no effect. All of this started after the latest software update from Apple. My data is backed up, but not through Time Machine. I have a 2008 16" MBP running the most updated version of Lion.

I've just ordered a MBP 2.4Ghz with 7200rpm 750GB drive, I will be adding either a single 8GB memory stick (total of 10GB) or a 16GB kit. I'm looking for my first SSD use as a boot drive for OSX and potentially Win 7 in BootCamp and hope I can get some counsel on model selection and configuration. I read that SSDs suffer a performance drop (sometimes significant) as the drive fills up. Also there are both 256GB and 240GB drives.Â
1) Are there models that maintain performance over time? Is there a specification that indicates how performance drops as the drive fills up?Â
2)Â Is there a performance difference (current / long-term) between 256 and 240GB drives?Â
3) Does an abundance of RAM improve performance and / or longevity? Â
4)Â How much space (if any) should be kept free for swap files in OSX / Windows?Â
5)Â With 240 / 256GB SSDs, how much usable space is available after formatting?Â
6)Â Is there a difference in performance based on file format NTFS vs. HPS+?
7)Â Do I need to be concerned about major name brands (Intel, Samsung, OCZ, Kingston, etc.) being incompatible with MBPs?Â
8)Â Are some SSDs easier to install / configure / maintain on a MBP than others?Â
9)Â Are there any issues I should be aware of regarding the installation or use of a SSD that would impact my MBP's warranty?Â
Based on performance, reliability and 5-year warranty, I've been attracted to the Intel 520. I've also read good reports on the Samsung 830. One review indicated that the 830 maintained performance over time while the 520 experienced a significantly greater drop.
