Our office recently acquired the Intel iMacs. Is there a preference setting to adjust/modify to make a squirlley-looking website opened in IE look correct (jumped graphics and out of place imagery)
View 2 RepliesI have one of the original MacPros 1,1 2x266 currently running OS X 10.7.3. and indicating ROM Revision 3011. When I try to run this update, it fails saying I need OS X 10.6. Do I need the update (I presume yes since my ROM rev is lower), if so how can I install it?

I just got an i7 27" iMac, and while its wonderfully in every way imaginable, I have an issue with my graphics card or drivers or something.
Two examples proving an issue:
I run world of warcraft and look in the video settings and I can't set anything to max at all, also a red bar assuming my graphics card is way out of its depth or something.
Also tried to run Left 4 Dead 2 from steam and in the menu I get some images come up as pink checkered squares and it always freezes when loading a match.
The only reason I haven't switched from Firefox to Safari yet is because I check some Arabic news websites, and they seem to be incompatible with Safari or something. I attached screencaps of what they look like (Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya) As you can see, the text is out of place. It really is an eyesore.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently looking to buy a new graphics card for my 2006 Mac Pro. I'm not going to be using OSX at all on the computer, only Windows/Linux, so I'm wondering what PC graphics cards I can use on if OSX drivers aren't an issue?
I've done a search and found a fair few answers, most of which have been more than a little contradictory and have got me somewhat confused. So any clear answer as to what's what on this would be much appreciated.
As a quick aside, just to explain why I'm doing this, in case anyone can think of a better idea, the situation is thus:
I work in VFX, primarily using Houdini. The main reasons to switch to Linux/Windows were OSX's lack of support for OpenGL 3 and 4 and the overpricing and unavailability of the new Ati 5870. Also Houdini is just that much snappier on Linux. So this mac pro is becoming a render/work box and I'm going to replace it for everyday stuff with a mac mini.
Pardon me being stupid, but I'm stumped. I have the ATI Radeon HD 2400, and on the Snow Leopard specs for OpenCL it doesn't list this. Will this effect anything, or will it still work.

Problem - It happened couple of time, earlier it happened when I was opening "Nordstorm.com" (I know, it was Black Friday time ) and it happened yesterday again, while opening VICE.com. When the problem occurs, machine hangs and after some time I can move cursor, but can't do anything. I have to hard restart the machine. after machine restarts, it shows a popup saying that a graphics problem detected and do you want to report it.
I suggested switching off "graphics switching" from energy menu in system preferences. even that crashed the machine first time when I tried that. So I have graphics switching off for now. Don't know for sure if it is OSX bug, Chrome/Browser bug or something else.

i ordered an 4870 card for my mac pro about the time it got out, march 3rd. Shipping date was set to april 21st. on that date it jumped to may 19th. anyone got their cards, or got an earlier shipping date? i live in norway btw. maybe that has something to do with it.

Recently my event clips and timeline clips have turned grey and no video imagery shows unless I pass the cursor over the individual clip. I was close to finishing this project and it plays in the viewer but making adjustments etc seems impossible. FCP is updated and I have restart the computer several times. I have used FCP for 3 years and have never had this problem.

How do I find the place where cookies are listed? I found it once but can't locate anywhere. I tried under Safari Preferences>Private but cannot find Private.
I find somethings that says Cookies under Security but that does not list any unusual listings. There MUST be somewhere I can find out if I have a virus, junk, or the like. Safari freezes, dumps and has slowed down.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I have an i5 27" that came with 4GB RAM (two 2 gig chips). I ordered two more 2 gig chips for a total of 8. When I went to install the two new ones, I followed logical steps. Remove the flexible plastic strip, slide the ram into the slot. However, the ram doesn't click, slide, or pop into place, in any way. I have tried both sides, and I have tried flipping the ram over and doing it backwards. I tried booting the computer with them in there even though they weren't settled in and it froze. I took them out, put the cover back on, and rebooted, and now every time I boot i get a meter that takes forever to fill up. Once booted, the computer does work normally. What am I doing wrong? And how can i fix this painfully long boot process? What have i done.

The only thing that is striking me odd is that this is the only ram on neweggs site that seems to be compatible with an iMac that doesn't actually show up under their Apple > Mac Memory category
I am having problems with my Mac G4, and it's been suggested it may be the motherboard. Therefore I'm considering getting a new iMac. I have a 17inch imac, and a 1.8 G5 processor (NO built in iSight). The hardrive I'm looking at is a Seagate Barracuda 500GB internal HDD. SDXC was introduced in 2009 and it's supposed to be the replacement to SDHC. Supposed to be much higher read speeds. So does the iMac support the SDXC cards?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.

However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
I have the Imac Alu 24", 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo with a ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card with 256MB VRAM. I will be buying a 2 year old apple Cinema display 30" tomorrow from a colleague and would like to know that my IMAC can easily handle supporting this display at its normal resolution and have a crisp and correct image on the larger screen. I know that this older version of the Alu Imac has the older video out display port, but I presume I can convert it to attach to this 2 year old screen as well. Is there something I'll need to do to get this to work?

Before i got my imac i seriously considered a g5 dual 2.0, but the money wasnt there. I see an apple refurb dual 2.0 for 1599, and im sure i cud get one a lot cheaper used here or on another board.
