I am having problems with programs automatically shutting down when I try to open them. The problems are with ITunes and Skype. I know that Skype is an internet program, and this might be a problem, but I never had this happen before... EVER. iTunes only starts up half way, then it brings up an error box.
I had no problems until I updated in Feburary. Can I uninstall the last update and restore to the old one?
Each time I start up, my 2012 Macbook pro seems to be resetting System Preferences.Things like trackpad, energy settings and mouse preferences have to be re-calibrated each time.

I have a macbook here that is stuck in a restart loop. It boots until it gets to the blue screen and flickers and goes back to a post screen and keeps retrying. It also displays a message that a crash log was written to file xxxxxxx.I can boot into single user mode and found the folder containing the crash log, how do I view that file in single user mode? If I can't read it in single user mode how can I read it, transfer it onto usb and view on my imac?
My year old MBP is at the stage where it starts to slow down [most of the time in Safari/Firefox], the beachball appears [and doesn't go away], and then I have to forcefully restart the computer (no other apps will work after this). Only things I do/downloaded for my MBP are internet, MS office, Skype, and the apps that came with the MBP. So if Flash is causing the problems, what can I do? Reinstall it? I've never seen two browsers crash consistently, I would imagine it has to be Flash. Thoughts [as to what it could be if it isn't Flash]?
I have a MacBook Pro 17 inches (early 2009) with 2.8 GHz C2D and 4GB RAM on it. My OS is 10.6.4 and have all the latest updates installed. I have used this computer for 10 months and now it becomes so slow. I did all the stuffs that may help to speed it up (repair disk permission, repair disk, uninstall unnecessary software, only one user account, get rid of startup items), but none of them seems to work. I even went to the genius bar, but the genius there said there is nothing they can do. They suggested me to upgrade the memory to 8 gig. It will cost me at least 300 bucks to do that!
Don't want to invest that much on a old MacBook Pro. But the thing is, I have a lot of friends using MacBook that has only 1 or 2 gig memory but their computers are still way faster than mine. They can open a lot of programs at the same time but I cannot. If I do, the computer gonna be really sluggish, and sometimes crash. I also don't think it is the problem of the free space on my hard drive since I have a 500GB hard drive and 80GB free space on it. I have already tried to reinstall the system and restore it using time machine backup.
Macbook pro recusing my password on the login screen after a system crash. I use filevault2 and efi with password too. None of the passwords are being accepted and the recovery key text field don't let me put numbers.

I got a very wierd issue going on with my 2TB Western Digital External HD that is connected to my Macbook Air.
All of my folders show the contents when using Windows XP (thur BootCamp) except for one folder, which I have all my movies in. The folders has 24GB of movies in it that I transfered to my external drive from another external HDD while using Snow Leopard (dont know if that matters).
Well I cant see any of the movies in that folder when it open. Its completely empty. But when I check the properties on it shows 24GB. However last night I transferd 15 movies into the folder (They are included in that 24gb) and I can see all 15 movies. But not the rest.
I just bought a new iMac on Aug. 7. When I enter System Preferences and they Display/Screensaver the program opens and then immediately crashes. The Display/Screensaver opened the first time I tried. I selected a picture for my background. Ever since then all it will do is crash when I try to open.
My son has a 2010 iMac and it crashes about once a week. I've serviced it with Disk Warrior twice. The first time it found a problem with the Volume map, but the second time nothing. How to read the Console crash report? As this is a total crash, I can't find any reports under the various application tabs that fit the dates in question.
Ever since I downloaded OSX 10.7.3 Build 11D50b, I have had problems with the system failing to wake up when it has been asleep for a couple hours or more, also it tends to crash now.Â
im running OSX Leopard on my Macbook Pro and I have a mobile hard-drive attached. My bittorrent client, Azureus, is likely accessing one of the three partitions on the external drive when, for some reason, my system hangs. After a while i I just hold down the power button to force a restart.
After it starts up everything works fine, except that the partition that was in use wont mount, although the other two will without problem.
All the partitions show up in disk utility. If i try to mount the troublesome partition from within disk utility, I get a dialogue box saying the mount failed and I should try first aid. When I try to repair it with "Verify disk", it tells me that the volume "appears to be ok".
I have just loaded the new operating system snow leapord on my Imac and now am having MAJOR problems with my Quickbooks 2009 for mac. Is anyone experiencing a high frequency of Quickbooks quitting during operations and getting a crash failure?
I want to restore and recover OSX & Logic 8 and the software i use with it (Apogee Maestro,UAD Quad & Waves plug-ins) to a new boot disk. I have both a back up of the main OS drive on a drive with Time Machine and a disk copy of the main drive (on another) as i had it before the boot disk crashed. My question is which is the best option to take when restoring the OS etc? As I have heard that there is a couple of bugs and issues when restoring via Time Machine. Is restoring via the disk copy a simple procedure? Or, should i reinstall everything completely from scratch and copy back the receipts and authorizations perhaps? Can you point me towards the best link/method to get my setup back on track? i'm using an apogee symphony pci card
Following a system freeze-up (happened while browsing with Safari) with Aperture 3.5.1 open and a forced shut-down, my Aperture library got messed up. Aperture suggested to rebuild the database and I did. After two or three rebuilds (all by Aperture's advice), there's no visible previews/photos in the library. The library listing is right, with all folders, projects and so on in place. But no visible photos. Only empty frames. When I click on a project or folder, my Qnap NAS drive (I have the complete Aperture library on it) sounds and behaves as if it searches and finds the photos, but Aperture shows nothing. It's as if the previews have gone missing. My library, when asked to show the content in the folder from finder, seems complete.
So my friend and I played a trick on an intern here at work who just got a new MBP. We swapped his background out for a vista one - real simple, right.
Well, he got back and had a good chuckle about it UNTIL - the system preferences panel crashed after he tried to switch it back.
So here is the only symptom: Open system preferences Click "backgrounds and screensaver" window opens, looks ok window closes and error screen pops up saying "system preferences unexpectedly closed"
Recently had operating system crash. When Apple got me back up and running, my library and playlists were gone. Fortunately I have them on my ipad. When I next sync with the new itunes where these songs are not present, will they be lost. Is there some way to "upload" them from my ipad to itunes?
The first time I connected to my HDTV using a mini displayport-dvi and a dvi-hdmi adapter, it worked flawlessly. Stupidly, I set my TV to a resolution it couldn't support. Now the screen only turns blue until System Preferences eventually crashes and the TV gets no signal.
I've tried clearing my PRAM, deleting the profile in the colorsync folder, and even deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist out of desperation. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the adapters by successfully getting another HDTV to work. Where could could OS X be storing the display's settings?
Started G5, got a question mark. Rebooted from disk. Tried to repair. Told me it could not exit and complete repair to HD. Restarted again. This time everything in utility window red. Message is Fatal Hardware error to disk utility. Back-up if not completely failed and replace with new drive.
Not great at behind the scenes with my mac. Does this mean a shop visit. Any estimate on cost to me. Had lots of Macs. This is the first to crash and burn and its not that old.
As anyone found a way to create a video playing screen saver in Quartz Composer in Snow Leopard. These screen savers work fine in Leopard but crash System Preferences when you attempt to load them in Snow Leopard. They seem to work just fine within Quartz Composer.
I turned my MacBook 2.4 unibody on when i got home from work today to find that my bluetooth mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I opened up system preferences to find that no bluetooth menu was there. I looked in spotlight and tried to connect a bluetooth device only to get a message telling me I had no bluetooth module installed I have no idea what happened, only 10 hours ago it was working fine.
Shortly after getting my mac notebook I allowed an offspring to use it, it "died" and I had to re-install the OS from disk. After this, I have hardly any of my 80GB left (about 2MB currently!). I have nothing else on (I have not put anything on other than the odd photo). Have I doubled up the OS? If so how do I remove the first one! Also (you'd think I would learn) lent it to off spring to watch DVD whilst in France on holiday - battery now does not charge whatsosever! Has the voltage difference when using mains cable abroad just fried the battery?
My MBP HDD free space is mysteriously disappearing. Is there any app that can show file size growth so that I can find out what is the file that is taking up so much space?
Info: MBP 2.4GHz 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.5.5), Bootcamp Windows XP
I was scanning some pictures today when I noticed that the icon for the folder I call 'Work', which contains all my documents, pictures ect yak and blah, wasn't on the desktop, so I temporarily parked my images in Dropbox and went to look for it. It just wasn't there. When I put in the names of specific folders into Spotlight, they weren't coming up. I do have Time Machine, and went back until I found the missing folder - it seemed to have been absent since yesterday morning - and restored all the items.Â
What could have caused this to happen? My computer has been acting strangely recently; a couple of weeks back it didn't want to spring into life at all, wasn't booting up - and then seemed fine on the third attempt. A couple of days ago the mouse suddenly stopped working, too, only to reappear with no problem a few minutes later.Â
My hard drive has mysteriously renamed itself DB1973 Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2009 3:27 AM The hard drive item that sits permanently on my desktop has been renamed to 'pe. I noticed this yesterday evening, after I'd downloaded some software updates and tried to back up my files using Time Machine. An image file that was saved on my desktop has also changed its name, from "Peter and Laura caricature" to "-09§". However, the name of a movie file saved on my desktop has remained the same, so whatever has caused these file names to change hasn't affected everything on my desktop (I only had three items there - the hard drive, the image and the movie). Is this something I need to be concerned about? Does it signal some sort of corruption or virus? No-one else uses my machine.
I have Mac Mail 5.2 (for lion). The program run great except when I try to send an attachment (especially a pdf file) which does not reach the sender. The sender receives the email except for the attachment.
